It never fails – once you get sucked into another book trilogy, you wait ever-so patiently for it to be turned into the next big film franchise, topping the box offices while reliving our favorite page-turning moments on the big screen. The latest of this trend is the upcoming book-turned-movie Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, starring Lily Collins.

Following New York City teenager Clary Fray (Lily) as she discovers her long family history of Shadowhunters, she joins forces for this half-angel group to rescue her mother from a dangerous demon. The whole plot has “Box Office Gold” written all over it.

Mortal Instruments joins the long list of book trilogies that have turned into major movie franchises and we’re ranking our top five from the past years!

Breakout Stars: Danielle Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint

Why We Love This Series: Ah, Harry Potter. The movie that made every kid aspire to go to wizard school at Hogwarts instead of boring old muggle elementary school. The adventures that J.K Rowling takes us on for seven books, and the money we all spent to get our tickets to see the midnight showing for each of the eight movies proves why this series deserves the number one spot. Anyone up for a game of quidditch?
