One Direction celebrated their three-year anniversary last month and we can’t help but take a look back at how much these five lads have accomplished. Not only have they sold millions upon millions of albums, performed in front of thousands of people and taken home some of the biggest awards, but they’ve become the biggest music group in the world. Yes – the world. That’s kind of a big deal!

10. Finished 3rd on The X-Factor

Sure, they may have come in third on season seven of UK’s The X-Factor, but that didn’t stop One Direction from continuing to reach for their dreams and become a successful pop group.


9. Made USA TV debut on Today

13 November 2012One Direction draws a record breaking 15,000 person crowd to their Today Show appearance in New York… and announce their 3D movie: One Direction: This Is Us.

1D had to have realized that they made it in America when they took the stage for their very first U.S. TV debut in front of 10,000 people to perform their hits, such as “What Makes You Beautiful” and “One Thing.”


8. Performed at the 2013 Olympics Closing Ceremony

Since they are one of the biggest acts to come out of London, it totally made sense for them to show their pride for their country by performing at the 2013 London Olympics closing ceremony! They were among the dozen performers, including The Spice Girls, Muse, Jessie J, The Who and more.


7. Won 3 MTV Video Music Awards

The MTV VMAs may not be one of the most prestigious award shows out there but when they beat out the likes of Rihanna and Justin Bieber for an award, it was a pretty big deal! They took home three awards in 2012, performed for their musical peers and even landed a smooch from Katy Perry.


6. Sold-Out Show at Madison Square Garden

We’re just going to sum up this achievement with these two fun facts: 1. Madison Square Garden is the third largest venue in the world. 2. One Direction sold out their December 2012 show at MSG in less than a minute!

5. Headed to Ghana in honor of Comic Relief

The lads of One Direction aren’t just about hitting the stage, night after night and performing in front of screaming fans. They’re all about making a difference as well and they showed that by taking part in 2013 Comic Relief’s Red Nose Day. They headed to Ghana, Africa to lend a helping hand, as well as cover Blondie’s classic “One Way Or Another” to benefit the campaign.


4. Announced their 2014 stadium tour

16 May 2013The guys announce a 2014 Stadium Tour which will kick off in Latin America.

#1BigAnnouncement went down last May and fans soon found out what the big secret was – One Direction will be embarking on their first stadium tour in 2014 in Latin America, Ireland and the UK!


3. Releasing their very first fragrance!

You know you’ve made it when you release your own fragrance, which 1D did with ‘Our Moment.’ The scent will be hitting stores on August 25th and is said to have hints of pink grapefruit, wild berries and red currants.


2. Showed off their acting chops & silly sides for “Best Song Ever” music video!

OMG, you guys. One Direction showed off their goofy sides for their “Best Song Ever” music video and we’ve lost track of how many times we’ve watched this video. We’ve got Marcel the marketing guru, the hot secretary, Harvey the record exec, Johnny another record exec and Leeroy the choreographer. Bravo, 1D. Bravo.


1. Releasing One Direction: This Is Us
