16-year-old Lorde may be new to the music scene but that’s not stopping her from dishing her opinions on pop music’s biggest stars, Taylor Swift and Selena Gomez. While her music style is a bit different from these ladies, the self-proclaimed “feminist” isn’t too happy with how they and their music have made women be portrayed in the media.
“Taylor Swift is so flawless, and so unattainable, and I don’t think it’s breeding anything good in young girls. ‘I’m never going to be like Taylor Swift, why can’t I be as pretty as Lorde?’” she told Metro magazine. “That’s f—king bulls—t.” Before all the Swifty’s start getting upset, let’s analyze her statement a bit. She’s not saying she doesn’t like Taylor, she’s just saying that she doesn’t like how young girls feel like they had to look and act like her. Got it? Good. Let’s move on to Selena.

Lorde isn’t the biggest fan of SelGo’s hit single “Come And Get It” but it has nothing to do with its pop melody or the fact that the radio won’t stop playing it. It’s the meaning behind it all. “I love pop music on a sonic level. But I’m a feminist and the theme of her song [‘Come And Get It’] is, ‘When you’re ready come and get it from me,’” she explained. “I’m sick of women being portrayed this way.”
Lorde is one of the biggest up and coming artists of the year, with everyone jumping on the “Royals” bandwagon.
