Miley Cyrus took over New York City, hosting and performing on Saturday Night Live and hitting the Today Show stage bright and early this morning. But it was her interview with Today’s Matt Lauer that has people talking. We all should know by now that if you’re a controversial star and sitting down with Matt, nothing is going to be held back when it comes to interview topics.
With Miley receiving a crazy amount of attention these days, we shouldn’t really be surprised that it’s exactly part of her plan. “It’s kind of what I want. I’m an artist, so I’m hoping that I get a little attention or my record might be a little sketch,” she said.

Along with the attention comes the backlash from those who doubt what she’s doing and what she stands for. “I don’t really worry about anything because I know who I am and I know what that I’m an artist, and I know that I put all this time and this effort into my record, and my record is proof of really who I am,” Miley said. “For me, the most important thing is being a really good person, and that doesn’t depend on what you do on stage. That depends on how you treat people when you’re offstage, and I know how I treat people, so I’m not really too worried about it.”
One person who has been questioning Miley is ‘90s singer Sinead O’Connor, who penned an open letter to the singer, warning her that the music industry “doesn’t give a s—t about you.” Miley fought back by posting a series of Sinead’s old tweets and comparing her to Amanda Bynes, a low blow on Miley’s part. But talking about Sinead on Today, she attempted to take a higher road than before, saying, “I think she’s an incredible artist, I think she’s an awesome songwriter, and I was really inspired by her for my ‘Wrecking Ball’ video, which was what started the whole thing.”
She continued, “I don’t know how someone can start a fight with somebody who said, ‘Hey, I really respect you. And I really love what you did.’ ‘You know what? You suck! I don’t like you!’ That was kind of crazy. But as I said, I’m a big fan of hers, so it doesn’t really matter. It’s all good.”
