Katy Perry may be one of the biggest pop stars in the world but she has another label to add to her name: UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador!
While taking on the honor, she also performed at the organization’s annual Snowflake Ball in New York City on Tuesday night, sharing her recent journey to Madagascar last April with the audience.

Katy has said that her latest single “Unconditionally” was inspired by her trip and last night, she expressed just how much it really meant to her. “It changed my life,” she said. “It really kind of reprioritized my thinking, and my whole approach to life, and how to find my own joy and my own happiness that isn’t being from material possessions and social status.”
She continued, “It’s nice to be able to pop the bubble that I live in and realize that the world has so many different things to offer and cultures.”
Following her split from ex-husband Russell Brand, Katy admits that she went through a dark period, leading her into a state of depression. But by helping those in need, she realized what really mattered at the end of the day. “You know I was going through a transition in my life where I felt like I had been suppressed and emotionally toyed with – and like I went there, and I was like, I have nothing to compare my situation to. It made me feel very grateful, but also very aware,” she said.
