Justin Bieber sent his Beliebers into a wave of panic on Christmas Eve, sending out a tweet announcing his “retirement” from the music industry. Writing, "My beloved beliebers I'm officially retiring," Twitter blew up, wondering if the Biebs was seriously for real.

A little while later, Bieber followed his “announcement” up with this: "The media talks a lot about me. They make a up a lot of lies and want me to fail but I'm never leaving you, being a belieber is a lifestyle. Be kind loving to each other, forgive each other as god forgave us through Christ Merry Christmas IM HERE FOREVER."

Obviously Justin was playing a little joke on the media, with a source telling Us Weekly, “He is basically poking fun of how quickly news spreads without anyone vetting it is true or not.” Bieber has always been a bit of a prankster – remember the prank he pulled on TMZ? So, well done.

This move comes just one week after he first joked about his alleged retirement with Power 106 and just one day before his second documentary Justin Bieber’s Believe hit theaters. Basically it’s just one big, fantastic marketing ploy!
