2013 may have appeared to be a year of constant work for Zac Efron, but many were shocked and surprised to hear about his secret trip to rehab. While no details were ever confirmed for his visit, Zac is appearing to be nothing but happy and healthy during his promotional tour for his upcoming film That Awkward Moment.

Zac stopped by Today with his co-stars Miles Teller and Michael B. Jordan to talk about the film, but he also opened up for the first time about his stay in rehab and how he’s doing now.

Talking about his past, Zac said, “I’m in the best place that I’ve ever been in. I’ve never been this happy before. I’m extraordinarily grateful for these guys and to be here promoting this movie. Things are good. Thank you for asking.”

It’s been a successful tour for That Awkward Moment, especially Zac who recently shared the impact one fan in particular had on him during a Facebook Q&A last week. He wrote on his Facebook page, “I have so much more I want to say. And I will – when I find the words. But I’ll start here – When you stood up, with such strength, and sincerity and gave me perhaps the nicest compliment I’ve ever been paid… it meant so much more than that to me. Facebook and online media in general, show only half the picture – sure people see me, but I never get to see them.”

He continued, “Yesterday was the first time in a very long time that I was able to look into your eyes and remember why I do what I do – and will never stop. I needed that, more than you will ever know and I just wanted to say thanks – face to face soon I hope.”
