Miley Cyrus Puts on a Million Dollar Performance

Posted on 15 December 2008 by Loretta

Miley Cyrus literally put on a million dollar performance last night, December 14th.  According to backseatcuddler.com, a law firm in Houston paid $1 million for Miley and her band to perform at their Christmas party, which benefits the Guatemala SANA for needy Guatemalans.  Did Miley really need to charge $1 million for a charity event performance?  I thought she was a giver-Guess I was wrong.  What do you think?

Kynt & Vyxsin’s ‘Amazing Race’ Finale Party

Posted on 10 December 2008 by xXxTerra

On Sunday, Kynt & Vyxsin teamed with Reality Cares to host an Amazing Race finale party and toy drive for Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles at Sunset Trucadero in West Hollywood.

We love Amazing Race and who could forget Kynt and Vyxsin, the “Pink and Black Attack”??  They are the goth couple who could not be sweeter.  We watched as they personally greeted and thanked everyone who attended, and mad props to Kynt for putting together all the great gift bags for the guests!  (I was stoked for the Joico products!  I actually really needed them.  Not gonna lie…)

Celebrity guests included: Preston Lee from Bravo’s Top Design, Heather Crawford from Charm School, James Ellis, Chad Tulik from Tila Tequila, Austin Anderson, Ann Gotti, VJ Micheal Benz and others.

By the end of the night, over one hunded toys were donated to the kids of Children’s Hospital for the holidays. And funny enough, the raffle for Chelsea Lately tickets seemed to be a greater highlight than the actual finale viewing.

Up next, the “Most Fashionable Couple in Amazing Race History” will be presenting their designs at Jovy Janolo and Cher Rue’s ‘Good Old Fashioned Christmas’ Fashion Show and Benefit for St. Jude Childen’s Hospital.  Get more information on the event on their MySpace at www.myspace.com/kyntandvyxsin

Jason Priestley, Jamie Lee Curtis, Jada Pinkett-Smith and Others Celebrate Halloween Early

Posted on 28 October 2008 by xXxTerra

The Children Affected by AIDS Foundation held its 15th Annual Dream Halloween event, hosted by Jamie Lee Curtis, this past Saturday at Barker Hangar in Santa Monica.  Jada Pinkett Smith, Willow Smith, Wilmer Valderrama, Jason Priestley, Melina Kanakaredes, Doris Roberts, Angela Bassett and Kim Fields were also on-hand to trick-or-treat and celebrate with the kids.

Jada Pinkett Smith and Willow Smith were presented with one-of-a-kind Mattel dolls made in their likeness.  The dolls were later auctioned for $20,000.  Wilmer Valderrama designed a one-of-a-kind Hot Wheels that was also auctioned and raised $6,500.  A “Spirit of King Grayskull” action figure made by He-Man designer Scott Neitlich was bid on by Gary Kiehnau, a soldier currently stationed in Iraq.

The fun-filled event generated nearly $1 million for children impacted by AIDS.

“The Hollywood community, the toy and children’s entertainment industry, and many others, go above and beyond each year to help us make this event a success. It’s heartwarming to see the faces of families truly enjoying themselves,” said Founder and Board chair Joe Cristina. “I’m so pleased to be celebrating 15 years of Dream Halloween. In 2008, the Foundation will serve more than 35,000 children in the U.S., Latin America and the Caribbean.”

Gerald Storch, Chairman and CEO of Toys ‘R’ Us, was presented with the Ribbon of Dreams® Children’s Advocate Award by Jamie Lee Curtis.

Each October, CAAF invites hundreds of families to attend Dream Halloween in-costume and trick-or-treat for toys, meet their favorite cartoon characters, play games, participate in arts and crafts, and enjoy a load of delicious food.

CAAF was founded in 1993 by Joe Cristina, a Mattel, Inc. executive whose desire to help children was inspired by the outpouring of support he received when he disclosed his own HIV-positive status.  To learn more about CAAF, visit www.caaf4kids.org.

Black Eyed Peas Perform + Celebs Show Support for Operation Smile

Posted on 22 October 2008 by xXxTerra

A bunch of celebrities came out to the ‘Play in Wet Cement’ Fashion Show Party at Hollywood hot spot Boulevard 3 last Wednesday to support Operation Smile.  The star-studded event hosted by Jin & Quinn, kicked off with an amazing acrobatic show, followed by a fashion show featuring designs from Wet Cement Clothing, and an off the hook hip hop dance show.

The night ended with performances by Black Eyed Peas’ apl.de.ap and Taboo and boy band NLT.  The Black Eyed Peas never disappoint, and seeing them at a small venue made the performance even better.  I’ve seen them multiple times and they have the house going crazy every time.  There to enjoy the evening: James Kyson Lee of Heroes, Andrea of Danity Kane, Tracy Bingham, Michael Capon, Sprague Graydon, Ken Davitian…plus many many more….

Check out pictures from the night (Click on image to enlarge):

Dane Cook Performs for Charity

Posted on 20 October 2008 by xXxTerra

On October 15th, Dane Cook performed for Cops 4 Causes‘ “Comedy Uniting Communities” benefit show at the Laugh Factory in Long Beach.  The event was hosted by Reno 911 star Wendi McLendon-Covey, who was joined by her Reno 911 co-star Michele Melean, as well as comedians Joey Medina, Dom Irrera and Chris Reid of “Kid & Play,” Deputy Christopher Landavazo (president and founder of C4C) and Jamie Masada (Owner of the Laugh Factory).

The show raised $25,000 to benefit the family of the fallen Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy Juan Escalante, who tragically was gunned down Saturday morning, August 2, 2008.  Juan is survived by a wife and three children.  In addition to helping the Escalante Family, Cops 4 Causes raised funds to help support the Special Olympics of Southern California, the Cops 4 Causes Fallen Heroes Scholarship Fund, and the California Peace Officers Memorial.

Though it was a night of laughs, the most moving moment of the night was when every single person in the venue stood to honor and welcome the widow of slain officer Escalante. All involved, including the waitresses and the comics, were happy to donate their time for a fallen hero and these worthy causes.

Wishes Do Come True & Young Hollywoodies Help

Posted on 01 October 2008 by Syndeee

Young Hollywoodies were out in force for charities last month.  We ran into the youth of Hollywood supporting charity events in Hollywood, Orange County, and San Diego… they were busy, busy bees!

We first met the G-Girlz in San Diego, helping wishes come true for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. Rhinestone Productions put together the event that allowed young Make-A-Wish girls to become models for the night.

All the girls looked gorgeous as they came down the red carpet and strutted their stuff on the catwalk.  They all got to hang out with lots of Nickelodeon and Disney stars, too!  At the end of the fashion show, Sterling Beaumont of Lost, came down the catwalk wearing a signature G-Girlz tutu.

Matt Underwood of Zoey 101 hosted the event and his co-star, Erin Sanders, was there lending her support as well.

We also had the honor of meeting Lil’ Niqo, a very young and talented Hip Hop artist.  He was sportin’ Sponge Bob Square Pants bling around his neck and a smile on his face that lit up the red carpet.  If you haven’t heard this youngin’s music, you’ve gotta check out his MySpace page immediately!  Not only is he adorable, but his music is REALLY good.  There’s a lot behind that cute lil’ grin.  While we didn’t get to see Lil’ Niqo perform, we did get to see Small Change live on stage.  They were all wearing Toxic Clothing, so they looked amazing, but guess what?  They sounded amazing, too.  Never discount the huge talent of young musicians…

14-year-old singer Austin Anderson, who has a couple of hits currently playing on Radio Disney, was in the house for the whole evening.

Another young and talented vocalist, Daechelle, performed at the event.  Check out her MySpace page and listen to her Bratz song, “Fearless.”

All these kids and more we’re signing autographs, socializing and mingling with everyone in attendance, and doing their best to really make wishes come true for a few special girls.  These kids are so genuine; it was refreshing to be in their presence.

After San Diego, we ran into some more young artists in Orange County, supporting the Mentors for Youth and The Boys and Girls Club of Anaheim programs.  Again, the G-Girlz were in the house, looking adorable in their colorful tutus.  They even got the event staff to give the tutus a try!

Super talented Monet performed at this event, looking gorgeous in a Jazmin Whitley original (which she also modeled for us all on the cat walk earlier in the evening).  Also modeling and signing, was the 4 girl pop sensation, Ajuku Girls–a newly formed group of talented young girls.

Later in the month, we ran into the multi-talented and entertaining Austin Anderson yet again.  This time he was out supporting the Rock-the-Vote movement.  And just days before this event, he performed at the Kickin’ Cancer Walk/Run in Brentwood.

Seriously, when do these young ones find time for rest and relaxation!?!  Eh, their young… they have limitless energy… and it’s great to see the young generation of Hollywood keeping good causes so close to their hearts and sending a good message to their young fans.

Charity Fashion Show with Hot U.S. Olympic Men’s Volleyball Team

Posted on 27 September 2008 by xXxTerra

Last Friday, the U.S. Olympic Gold Medal Men’s Volleyball Team were welcomed back to Orange County in style at the Charity Fashion Show & Cocktail Party hosted by the renowned Anaheim White House Restaurant and organized by Last Chance Productions.

Celebrities included Jeff Conaway and Vikki Lizzi, Printz of the Black Eyed Peas, singer Monet, G-Girlz, Ajuku Girls, opera singer Stephanie Reese, Christina Lindley, Valerie Sheppard, Sebastian Siegel, Melissa ‘Mojo’ Hunter, and hostess Stella Stevens.  In addition to the Mayor of Orange County and even the Prince of Costa Rica.

Despite dropping from Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab, Jeff Conaway looked well with his girlfriend, Vikki Lizzi, at his side.

We got to have a quick chat with the couple and Vikki informed us that season 2 of Celebrity Rehab is on the horizon, premiering this October.  She said, “You have to watch.  Dr. Drew checked me in.”

Perhaps the treatment worked because she and Jeff both looked healthy and happy.  They both contributed to the Anaheim White House event by donating a painting they created together, along with Vikki’s brother Jay, who owns Stardust Comics.  It was auctioned off, along with paintings by Fergie and a few select artists.

The exclusive event included hors d’oeuvres and champagne, a 5-Diamond gourmet dinner, beautiful atmosphere, live jazz and music performances by various artists, including Monet and the G-Girlz, as well as a fashion show.  There was a raffle to win high-end prizes and an auction for unique items, such as volleyballs autographed by the U.S. Men’s Olympic Volleyball Team, clothing by featured designers, the paintings done by celebrities, even dates with the runway models.

This was all done to raise funds for Mentors for Youth and The Boys and Girls Club of Anaheim.  Sponsors included Daisy Rock Guitars, Rock & Republic, Fuze, Robert Mondavi Winery, Hope Wine, Han Asian Vodka, Fiji Water, The Actors Room, Pacific Dance Center, A.B.S., and Cache.

The G-Girlz‘ came in looking as adorable as always and rocked the runway.  We’re convinced they’ll be the next big tween pop sensations.  They’ve got so much talent at their young ages, and besides their energetic performance, what amazed us was how humble and respectful they were; obviously products of good, down-to-earth parenting.

The Ajuku Girls, a newly formed 4 girl pop group, helped add even more girl-power to the evening.  Not only did they perform a few songs for us, but they also modeled some of the fashions on the cat walk along with Monet.  You can visit the Ajuku Girls MySpace page to see video of their runway debut.

The highlight of the night was getting to hold actual Olympic gold medals.  The Gold medal winning team members appeared to be invincible with those babies on them.  Yes, babies… I would protect that thing like it were my own child.

And being the wine conniseurs that we are at Hollywire, we were also excited to discover a new favorite that night… actually, several.  We fell in love with the Hope Wine Company’s fine Sonoma wines.  The best part is that Hope donates 50 percent of its profits to charity.  Each type of wine (red or white, they’re all great, we promise you) benefits a different cause–from Breast Cancer, Autism to AIDS.  Drinking for charity?  Sign us up!  www.hopewine.com

Britney Spears Donates Self Portrait to Charity

Posted on 13 September 2008 by Loretta

Britney Spears has donated a 5×4 foot oil painting of herself to the Los Angeles based Promises Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides behavioral health services to low-income women and their children.  The portrait came right out of Britney’s home and is listed on eBay with a starting bid of $10,000.  Lisa Rogg, directer of Promises Foundation, said,

The Spears family gave us this painting out of their generosity.  It was their idea for the auction.

The portrait is autographed by the pop star and accompanied by a letter of authenticity from Brit’s dad, Jamie, that states, “I hereby verify that the portrait of my daughter, Britney, has been in our home since it was completed by Daniel Maltman.”

That was a pretty thoughtful donation from the Spears family.  Perhaps a thank you to Promises for its help in getting Britney mentally stable?

Patrick Swayze Makes a Surprise Appearance

Posted on 06 September 2008 by Loretta

Patrick Swayze received a standing ovation from a surprised audience when he appeared on stage at the EIF “Stand Up To Cancer” fund-raising special.  Swayze’s appearance had a special meaning for many because he himself is fighting cancer.  Charles Barkley said,

He looks amazing.  For me seeing Patrick Swayze, someone who is actually fighting the disease, was the best part of the show.  Seeing him in person was amazing.  He just came up to me and said, ‘hi.’  We talked about how he was doing.  He said he’s doing well.  He said that he’s even gone back to work.

Noreen Fraser, a cancer survivor and a producer for “Stand Up To Cancer,” told People magazine,

I just had to think him for his appearance.  His appearance put this event over the top.  He told me, ‘There was no way I was going to say no to this.”

Cancer has affected so many lives and seeing Patrick Swayze come out on stage looking strong, healthy, and happy can only give cancer patients and survivors hope.  Cancer survivors Christina Applegate, Sheryl Crowe, and Lance Armstrong along with many other celebrities also attended the T.V. fund-raiser to help raise millions of dollars for cancer research.
