Josh Howard Disses The Star Spangled Banner

Posted on 18 September 2008 by Loretta

During Allen Iverson’s flag football charity game, Josh Howard, the forward for the Dallas Mavericks, disrespected “The Star Spangled Banner.”  Howard was caught on tape saying, “I don’t celebrate this sh**.  I’m black God damn it.”  He then ended his rant with, “Barack Obama ‘08.  Obama and all that sh**.”  Check out the youtube clip below.

Mark Cuban, owner of the Mavericks, told the Dallas Morning News that the Howard incident has been dealt with and stated,

That said, we will be going through some advanced communication-skill sessions together this training camp.  I have explained to him that cellphone cameras are not your friend and that what you think you said on camera is never what people will hear when it shows up on YouTube or TV.”

That is so true.  Cellphone cameras are not a celebrities friend, but the media love them!  However, I don’t see how what Howard said can be taken any other way than disrespectful to our National Anthem.  What do you think?

The Phelps Diet

Posted on 14 August 2008 by xXxTerra

Nope, Wheaties isn’t the breakfast of this champion. (Sorry, General Mills.) In an interview with IGN Sports, the Olympic star said he consumes 12,000 calories per day, or 9,500 more than the FDA recommends for a young active male. No, we didn’t get that wrong… those are the right number of zeros.

Here’s what he told NBC is his typical daily menu:

Breakfast: 3 fried egg sandwiches, 2 cups coffee, 5-egg omelette, bowl of grits, 3 pieces of french toast, 3 chocolate chip pancakes, and don’t forget the syrup

Lunch: 1 pound pasta, 2 ham and cheese sandwiches, 1,000 calorie energy drink

Dinner: 1 pound pasta, 1 large pizza, 1,000 calorie energy drink

Here’s an excerpt from IGN’s interview, when they discuss his diet:

IGN Sports: What about your diet? Are you always eating super healthy?

Michael Phelps: I eat pretty much whatever I want. I don’t have a strict diet. It’s all about cramming in as many calories into my system as I possibly can. To be honest with you, I have a tough time keeping weight on.

IGN Sports: What about fast food?

Michael Phelps: Bring it on!

Obviously, his life is swimming and physical training, so he needs the fuel. He burns over 4,000 calories in a single workout and his heart pumps two times more blood per minute than the average male. If we all worked as hard as he does, we could eat whatever we wanted, too, and still look like this…

Wow.

Speaking from a female’s perspective, who doesn’t love a man that can eat?? Especially if he can maintain a frame like that. So go eat that whole pepperoni pizza and chocolate cake, Michael, you’ve earned it!

But, on the other hand, a girl might get a little resentful eating a salad and sparkling water while he scarfs down a large pizza and a milkshake.

Danica Patrick’s Brawl with Milka Duno– Cat Claws on the Race Track!?

Posted on 20 July 2008 by CeCe

Danica Patrick, member of the Andretti Green Racing team, nearly exchanged blows today with Milka Duno, another female driver, who competes for Dreyer & Reinbold Racing.

Eyewitnesses say that the verbal tussle got pretty heated.  Check out the video of the whole fight and see for yourself!

Being on different teams wasn’t the problem; It was Duno’s driving that upset Patrick.

This isn’t Patrick’s first time confronting another driver. She has also challenged fellow drivers Dan Wheldon and Ryan Briscoe after other racing incidents.

In 2007, Patrick and Wheldon collided during a race, but she managed to get back on the lead lap and finish in eighth place. After the race they had a heated exchange after she tried to confront him about the wreck.

Earlier this year, Patrick and Briscoe’s cars collided during practice, which eliminated both from the race. After being pushed back to her own pit, Patrick left her car and headed down pit road toward Briscoe’s pit at which point security intervened, preventing an on-track confrontation.

I think this woman just loves to fight! But, come on, there are only a few women drivers competing against a sea of men, and they should stick together!

Here they are posing for a picture- Duno on the far left (in jeans & black tee) and Patrick on the far right (next to one frightening looking lady–is that a lady?  Look at it her!). If they can be in the same picture together then why all the fighting?!

Of course, Patrick simply brushed off the latest scuffle, saying, “I just wanted to know if she saw me out there.”

With the go ahead from his doctor, he decided to compete to try and gain a spot on the U.S. team. He ended up winning and had a difficult choice to make.

“If I didn’t make the team, the decision would have been easy: Go home and have the surgery. I made the team, so I had a hard decision. But, by no means am I being stupid about this.”

He has said that if the cancer starts to spread while in Beijing he will drop out and have the surgery that was recommended at the time of diagnosis.Eric Shanteau

Best of luck to Eric with everything!!

Ken Griffy Jr. Hits His 600th Homerun

Posted on 10 June 2008 by Loretta

Cincinnati Reds outfielder, Ken Griffy Jr became the sixth player in baseball history to hit 600 home runs.

Griffy hit his 600th home run in the top of the first inning at Monday night’s game against the Florida Marlins.  Mark Hendrickson was pitching for the Marlins.  Ken Griffy Jr joins, Barry Bonds (762), Hank Aaron (755), Babe Ruth (714), Willie Mays (660), and Sammy Sosa (609) as one of baseball’s highest home run hitters.

However, for one fan the excitement of witnessing a great moment in baseball history didn’t last long.  Baseball fan Justin Kimball claims that he caught Griffy’s 600th home run ball and that another fan stole it from him.  Kimball stated that he had placed the ball in his wool cap and then another fan ripped the hat from his hand and ran off with the ball.  The M.L.B. authenticated one ball for a male fan who would only give his first name, Joe.  Miami police are reviewing the video tape from the home run to see if Kimball is the rightful owner.

That would be upsetting to have a ball like that stolen from you.  Who knows how much a Griffy fan would pay for a little piece of baseball history.
