Kickstarter was created as a way for creative people with big ideas but not a lot of funds to generate financing on their intended projects. It’s been a major asset for a number of different projects, including independent films that may have never had a chance to be made and seen otherwise.

More recently, though, some bigger players are getting into the game. Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell turned to Kickstarter to get Veronica Mars fans to put the down payment on a big-screen adaptation of their beloved TV mystery series, then Zach Braff announced a spiritual sequel to Garden State that he also wants to pay for with this new-fangled model.

Allow us to state the obvious: it's a crazy time to be in Boston...

After the horrific explosions at the Boston Marathon on Monday, we thought we’d seen the worst headlines from the city for a while. But Boston’s terrifying week continues with reports of shootings and more explosives involved in a manhunt for two suspects who are sought in connection with the Marathon bombings.

The governor of Massachusetts has warned Bostonians to stay indoors, and that includes the cast and crew of David O. Russell’s American Hustle, who have been filming in the Boston area this week.

The MTV Movie Awards had no shortage of stars to take home the Golden Popcorn for delivering some of the year’s best movie moments (according to the MTV set, anyway). But the year’s biggest breakout star of all was noticeably absent from the proceedings, despite winning a couple of awards: Jennifer Lawrence.

As it turns out, Jennifer’s no-show was a surprise to the show’s producers as well as many who tuned in for the broadcast, since she was meant to be included in the winnings of Best Kiss and Best Female Performance, as well as the unveiling of the new Catching Fire teaser. There was even a fake episode of True Life devoted to Jennifer’s little-known “identical twin” sister ― who, you may notice, looks an awful lot like last night’s host Rebel Wilson.
