In Hollywood, it’s easy to be pigeon-holed in a certain persona -- like America’s Sweetheart, for example. While falling in to that adorable category can seem all fine and peachy, some actresses just need to break out and go to the dark side every once in a while, whether by playing the villain or engaging in some twisted behavior on screen to show the world that you’re not some 14-year-old Disney starlet anymore.

It’s Earth day! And that’s cause for celebration, because ― unless you are reading this from one of those post-apocalyptic societies in the future that have abandoned the Earth because it is no longer sustainable to human life ― you’re on Earth! And so are we! And so are the celebrities we write about!

In honor of this worthy holiday, we’re taking a look at the greenest of the green ― the stars whose contributions to Mother Earth have made the most impact. If we were casting an all-star version of Captain Planet, these are the stars we’d make sure were on board!

If we could think up the perfect cast for an edgy western, it would probably consist of Michael Fassbender, Jude Law, Joel Edgerton, and Natalie Portman. This dream team actually was assembled for Jane Got A Gun, the story of a woman striving to save her wounded husband from the outlaws bent on killing him… by recruiting her ex to help. Sounds great, right?

Well, last week Michael Fassbender bowed out of the project, leaving Joel Edgerton to switch into his role. A little disappointing, but still a strong cast! Yesterday, however, the film’s director Lynne Ramsay quit… on the first day of shooting! She was a no-show for day one of production in Santa Fe, leaving her cast and crew high and dry. Needless to say, no one involved with the movie is too happy with her at this moment.
