It's safe to say that Seth MacFarlane was one of the most polarizing Oscar hosts in recent memory.

His jokes throughout the 2013 Oscars were labeled by critics as "inappropriate," "racist," and "borderline sexist," with one columnist even going so far that his humor was a reason to "throw him in jail." However, there were plenty of people that found the Family Guy and Ted creator to be one of the funniest hosts in years.

But everybody has to start somewhere, and before they were offered roles in high-quality productions like Zero Dark Thirty and The Master, they had to prove themselves in projects that are not so likely to go down in history.

Celebrities are a pretty crazy bunch ― and the most talented amongst them are some of the craziest of all. (Don’t you have to be at least somewhat insane to be a great artist?)

Never is this on greater display than when stars are winning Academy Awards (or, in Jodie Foster's case, a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Golden Globes). Ordinarily-composed celebrities suddenly begin to blubber, babble, and behave like the toothless, scruffy people we'd normally find screaming profanity on a street corner or in a medically-induced catatonic state at a mental institution.

With awards season in full swing, we can only guess who we might find rambling insanely at this year's Oscars. Jennifer Lawrence? Anne Hathaway? Maybe even Steven Spielberg? (Okay, probably not Steven Spielberg... the man has had some practice by now.) From incestuous confessions to F-bombs and lots and lots of bawling, here are 11 Oscar speeches that, when taken out of context, seem more like a mental breakdown than they do the acceptance of an award.

'Lincoln' Leads Academy Awards With 12 Nominations

And the nominees are...

The 85th Academy Awards will take place on February 24 and the official nominees were announced this morning by this year's host Seth McFarlane and The Amazing Spider-Man star Emma Stone, which led to more bantering and wisecracks than usual. Lincoln led the pack with 12 nominations in total, while there were also some noticeable snubs and surprises in the final list.

It's hard to believe that another awards season is officially upon us, and with just one month until the 70th Annual Golden Globe Awards, the nominees were announced Thursday morning with some help from Jessica Alba, Megan Fox and Ed Helms.

Lincoln led the way for nominations with seven total, but films like Les Miserables, Silver Linings Playbook, Argo and Django Unchained all got respectable recognition. On the television side, the HBO movie Game Change had the most nominations (5), with series like Homeland, Girls and Modern Family also recognized.

The show will air Sunday, January 13 on NBC, hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (who both also happen to be nominees themselves!). Click after the jump for a full list of nominees!

Is this a sign of what to expect at this year's Academy Awards?

Awards season raged on with the nominations for the 2013 Screen Actors Guild Awards, which will air on TNT and TBS on January 27. What's notable about this particular set of awards is that it's actors rewarding actors, so some of the biggest names in the business tend to get their fair share of love. This year, Lincoln and Silver Linings Playbook led the way with four nominations each and will also do battle in the oustanding performance by a cast in a motion picture category.
