Whoops! Selena Gomez Violates Strike Rules

Selena Gomez accidentally violated strike rules in a recent IG post.

We all love Selena Gomez, but even super fans like us have to admit she can make a blunder from time to time. If there’s one thing that’s become clear this Summer, it’s that Selena may not be totally stoked with the ongoing strike. Particularly because it has impeded her ability to promote her latest season of the popular Hulu series Only Murders in the Building. Forced to distance herself from that show (which very well may be her masterpiece), Selena has recently returned to music again, releasing her first single in several years. Naturally it has received major acclaim, and millions of plays.

But perhaps her heart remains primarily in television, because this morning Gomez posted a photo promoting her aforementioned Hulu series. Normally that wouldn’t be news, but because of the strike rules this may have been a major blunder. Gomez, who is also a producer on the series, posted a photo of herself and tagged the account for the show. People quickly noticed that this violated strike rules which stipulate cast can’t promote any of their work, and Gomez took the post down. Only thing is, the whole debacle ended up bringing even more publicity to the show than it would’ve otherwise.

That’s why some people are speculating that the move was deliberate by Selena, who is also a producer on the show. While this view certainly belongs to the haters, who seem to think Selena and her team “knew exactly what they were doing” and did this to boost the show’s ratings. Still, the show is a hit regardless so it’s hard to imagine Selena feeling a need to do that. It’s even harder to imagine her not passionately standing with her fellow actors on strike. So we are willing to give her the benefit of the doubt.

Either way we will be watching Only Murders in the Building on Hulu and enjoying the mastery of acting we expect from Gomez and her lesser known counter parts Steve Martin and Martin Short. All we know is we hope this strike ends soon so we can get the high level promotional Instagram posts we love to see from Selena, and she can do it without being guilt tripped by her haters.
