Back when we were Jaden and Willow Smith’s age, we were more likely to squabble with our siblings than cut a hip hop track. Then again, we weren’t the offspring of a major movie star.

The child prodigies have joined forces for the new track “Kite.” And while the subject matter may be a rather juvenile activity like kite-flying, the track itself pretty mature, following Willow’s surprisingly soulful “Sugar & Spice,” which we heard last week.

Most of our parents said no to piercings and crazy haircuts at some point growing up, but Jada Pinkett Smith is not one of those parents.

Her daughter Willow Smith has been rocking everything from a mohawk to a buzz cut in recent years, leaving many to question who would let their pre-teen daughter dress like that. Jada addressed the critics in a Facebook post, saying she's simply giving Willow the opportunity to take charge of her own life. "The question why I would LET Willow cut her hair. First the LET must be challenged," she wrote. "This is a world where women, girls are constantly reminded that they don't belong to themselves; that their bodies are not their own, nor their power or self determination. I made a promise to endow my little girl with the power to always know that her body, spirit and her mind are HER domain."
