New Red Carpet Trend: 70's Star Trek-Inspired Cut-Out Dresses

What is going on here?  As soon as Star Trek came out it's as if every designer decided that they were going to make the old 70's Star Trek style popular again with a modern twist, and me no likey!

At the MTV Movie Awards this past Sunday, the girls were all wearing retro/futuristic, cut-out, strappy dresses.  To me it's just unnecessary but I may be eating my words in a few weeks when I cave in to the trend and go out and buy one.
