We got our first glimpse of M.I.A. out and about just after having her baby.  She showed up at the “Connected Celebrity Pre-Oscars Gifting Event” at the Universal Studios backlot late this afternoon.  She arrived toward the later hours of the event as things we’re calming down a bit (better for the newborn babe); but, she forgot her ID & security would not let her past the entrance gates!  Her baby is just only about a week old, so I’m sure adjusting to motherhood is quite enough to make you forget your ID.  I couldn’t imagine how crazy it must be to make your first outing as a new mom–all those diapers, wipes, & whatever else you need to remember…

Anyhow, security is tight at the backlot and they would not let her in until she got explicit approval from the Connected coordinator, Nancee Bourgnine (yep, daughter to legendary Ernest Bourgnine).  Once in the gates, it was quite a fiasco before she entered the gifting suite:

Being a new mom, with a sleeping baby in tow, it was requested that the entire facility clear the aisles and lower the noise level.  They stated over the intercom that this was a highly irregular request but the 9 day old baby was sleeping and hopefully we wouldn’t mind trying to accommodate the new mom…well, this proved to be a difficult task (as you can imagine)–the suite was nearly the size of an airline hangar!  And it was swarming with celebrities taking pictures and trying out products galore.  After several attempts to quiet the noise level in the suite, I think they finally gave up.  About 45 minutes after her arrival inside the backlot she finally came into the gifting suite, but no baby in hand…aw, we we’re bummed.  For 45 minutes we were all amped up to get a glimpse of the newborn, even though no pictures or video would be allowed; but in the end nobody got that glimpse.

M.I.A.’s people also respectfully requested no video or pictures of M.I.A. be taken due to her recent birthing.  All complied.  I wish we had a pic to share with you, but we do not.  But, we can tell you that she looks happy & healthy!  And, honestly, she shouldn’t have been so camera shy because she looked great with her new motherly glow.  I’m sure a picture of the new mom & baby will emerge soon enough as it really seems like nothing can slow this woman down!  Perform at The Grammy’s, pop a baby out, make it to the gifting suites…wow!  All in less than 2 weeks time!
