Is 15 year old Selena Gomez the next Miley Cyrus?
Selena Gomez, Disney’s latest teen prodigy, was born in New York City on July 22, 1992 but raised in Grand Prairie, Texas. She began her acting career at the young age of 7, when she landed her first big role as “Gianna” on Barney and Friends. Selena was let go from Barney after just two seasons, but credits the show for teaching her everything she knows about acting. In an interview with People magazine Selena stated that,
I was very shy when I was little. I didn’t know what ‘camera right’ was. I didn’t know what blocking was. I learned everything I know from Barney.
When Selena was 12 years old she was discovered by Disney in a nation wide Disney talent search. In 2006 she did a guest appearance on two episodes of The Suite Life of Zack and Cody and in 2007 she was on two episodes of Hannah Montana. In October 2007 Selena landed a starring role for Disney as “Alex Russo” on Wizards of Waverly Place. Selena has also recorded three songs for Walt Disney Records and in 2008 she released her “Cruella De Vil” music video for the February premiere of 101 Dalmatians.
Selena’s latest role , Mary, is the main character in her upcoming DVD movie Another Cinderella Story and this September she will co-star with, her best friend, Demi Lovato in Princess Protection Program.
People magazine sat down with Selena’s mom, Mandy Teefey, for a little Q&A on keeping Selena Grounded.
People: On Her Chores
Mandy: She has to do her own laundry. If she cooks, I clean. If I cook, she cleans. She has to help feed the dogs. There are really no set chores. We all just pitch in when needed.
People: On Her Curfew
Mandy: It depends on who she is with and where they are going, but 90 percent of the time it’s 11:30 p.m. She never goes to movie premieres, wrap up parties or anything related to the business without a parent. Period. That rule is not changing until she is 21!
People: On Growing Up In Hollywood
Mandy: I was never really concerned about Selena. She is a very headstrong and driven girl. I really haven’t changed any rules for her. If she wasn’t allowed to do it in Texas, she’s not allowed to do it here. Selena knows who she is, and I am around to make sure she doesn’t change.
Like we haven’t heard that before. Curfews, allowances, and chores, all the moms say the same thing and all the stars turn out the same way. Have they come out with a Raising a Child Star for Dummies yet?

Wizards of Waverly Place is a lame show don’t waste your time watching it. I prefer Hannah Montana or Suite Life.

Well, I hope she holds up to what she says. She seems like a talented and well-rounded child. I wish her the best of luck, and hopefully one Hollywood family will not allow their child to run wild.

well i just hope for the best with selena…she actually looks like the kind fo girl who knows whats she doing and what she wants to do with her life..but the thing is will miley be jealous if selena does become the next big thing because honestly i think that that is whats going to happen but well just have to wait and see….oh and i also think that miley should just take a small break from the whole hollywood scene because it seems that whatever she does is just messing up er career…best of luck for the both of them

Um. That show “Wizards of Waverly Place” is the stupid, lame, and down right PAINFUL. And Serena oops, Selena Gomez is kinda really ugly? like she looks like my pet pug. No. She is not talented. Playing a teenage girl is not really a hard role.

I think Selena has a better chance than Miley.It looks like she has better parents who will keep careful watch over her and the friends she makes.And I like Wizards of Waverly Place,Massie and Lisa.Selena is very pretty.She is much better than Miley,who I think needs to get away from the influence of her “bff” Mandy.

Wizards of Waverly place rules!! Its is so awesome and hilarious!! And I like Hannah Montana because the show is funny.I dont want to be mean about miley and all, its just that the youtube battle, pictures, come on!!!! Selena has a better voice than Miley. I bet some of yall like Lisa and Massie Who is kinda stupid (not all of yall) think that miley is better. My opinion is that she’s not. Nobody’s Selena is going to be a talented singer. She is going to be the next talented, successful singer, not the next miley cyrus because no.1, she isnt miley cyrus. no.2, she doesnt want 2 be miley cyrus. no.3, she want to be herself!!

Selena and Demi are both great role models. I’m not saying Miley isn’t, but her controversial photos that have lately been surfacing are definitely not good for her career and it’s giving out the wrong message for all the young girls, and boys, that look up to her. Also, to Re, Selena and Demi are not trying to be “Emo”. They both have different and
unique styles. I honestly can say that I noticed when Selena and Demi first started becoming popular, Miley seemed like she started taking fashion cues from the best friends. Miley started wearing more black and edgier, more different clothing. I think Selena Gomez is a great actress, a great role model for kids, and has great style. She seems very down to earth and very easy to talk to. A very sweet girl. Likewise for Demi Lovato.

to be fair i love ‘em both. About who’s the next big star is up to their own. miley really need to work hard if she want her pop-star reputation stick with her. and as for selena, she also need to work double-harder if she want to take off that reputation from miley and stick it to herself. i guess they’re both equal opponents
