Affion Crockett Puts the "I" in "Dance Flick"
Dance Flick is the latest film to come from the amazingly insane minds of the Wayans Brothers, and as you might have guessed, it spoofs a lot of the dance films from the last 10 years including Save the Last Dance, Step Up, Flash Dance, Hairspray, and You Got Served, just to name a few.The new movie comes with a new member of the Wayans crew, actor/rapper Affion Crockett who plays "A-Con" in Dance Flick. You've seen him as a regular on Nick Cannon's Wild N' Out, which he says he got hooked up with because he and Nick had known eachother for a while. He says, "Wild N' Out just happened to be the right show to collaborate on. Nick and I are very similar. We both rap and act...so it just ended up working out."
Affion got hooked up with the Wayans Brothers after they hired him to shoot a pilot a few months before Dance Flick began production. He said when he first started working with the Wayans it was "like finding my long lost family, my cousins. We automatically clicked. I grew up watching the whole crew, you know in In Living Color, I'm Gonna Git You Sucka... I've been a fan of theirs for a while now."
Clearly, the feelings are mutual. Check out Affion's appearance with the entire Wayans crew on BET's 106 & Park. Skip ahead to the 3:20 mark to see the Wayans praise Affion, as well as Affion's dead-on Jay-Z impression!

Also, you will be SERIOUSLY missing out if you don't check out Affion's reel, posted below. He literally can do any impression you can think of! Chris Rock, Russell Simmons, David Blaine, Ludacris, etc.

Affion revealed that the Wayans style of filming is a mix of sticking to the script as well as improvisation. So while Affion had to stick to the script for the most part for editing purposes, there were moments when he was allowed to go off the cuff. Interestingly enough, Affion says that the scene in the Dance Flick trailer where Affion's character is asking if there is an "i" in "team," and he finally asks if there is an "i" in "i-ensemble," was completely improvised. Could've fooled me!
Up next, Affion is starting to write, produce and direct his own films. You can always keep up to date with Affion by following his Youtube account or by following his Twitter account. Affion also wanted me to stress that everyone needs to go check out some of his DVD's, (DVD residuals are a beautiful thing!) so make sure to check out the non-dance flicks: Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins, Never Back Down, and Soul Men!
Dance Flick is in theaters this Friday, May 22nd!
