Johnny Depp is in talks to join Angelina Jolie in the upcoming thriller, The Tourist, reports Variety.

The ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ star is in negotiations to play the male lead opposite Jolie.  He would play an American tourist drawn into a web of intrigue by a female Interpol agent (Jolie) who is attempting to locate a criminal who was also once her lover.

The ‘tourist’ role was originally given to Sam Worthington.  Jolie herself was also a replacement, as Charlize Theron was attached to the project but dropped out.

Production is set to start in February of 2010.
