Director Michael Bay Calls it Quits for Action Movies

[/caption]After action successes such as Transformers, The Island, and Pearl Harbor, Michael Bay decides he's had enough of critics bashing on his big-budget blockbusters. The under appreciated director comments, "It's easy to go shoot an art movie in a winery in the South of France. But people have no idea how hard it is to create something like Transformers. They (the critics) review me before they've even seen the movie." Even though the critics are giving him a tough time, movie goers didn't seem to be paying much attention to bad reviews with a $70,502,384 opening weekend for the robot movie.
So who exactly is he trying to please? Critics who's opinions are normally overlooked by the public. Or the public who enjoys the movie. With his current attitude, it looks like Bay wants to win over the critics. But in the end, it's the public's opinion who really matters. Hollywood makes movies that make money. If bad reviewed action movies bring in the big bucks, why should, or better yet, why would anyone complain? Another Hollywood ego is tough to please.
The Revenge of the Fallen director goes on to say, "After the three and a half years I've spent making these movies, I feel like I've had enough of the Transformers world...I need to do something totally divergent, something without any explosions." Whatever sparked this epiphany, I doubt if he can make the crossover from action movies to heart-wrenching dramas. So what happens for Transformers 3? I guess they'll just find another director who's more willing to enjoy explosives and robots. Bay is going to miss out on some big bucks, but as long as he's happy with good reviews.
