Known as the best kept secret in Hollywood, the Temecula Valley International Film Festival, or TVIFF, gave Hollywire an exclusive sneak peek at the films being featured at the festival this year.  The opening night film is Love Hurts by Barra Grant.  Hollywire met with Barra and the movie's producer Brian Reilly to discuss Love Hurts.  Barra Grant, who is Reilly's wife, wrote and directed Love Hurts.  Grant said she "wanted to make a film about a 2 generation love story" and that "The writing process was long, but it wrote it self."  Reilly describes the movie as an "entertaining story with well drawn characters that tells lots of truths."  He goes on to say that "It is a feel good movie that is satisfying" and "he feels proud to be apart of the project."  This is the first time that Barra has directed a motion picture, having only worked in the TV medium. Barra makes a wonderful transition to the big screen in this heart warming and funny love story.  Love Hurts stars Richard E Grant, Carrie Ann Moss (The Matrix) and features a talented supporting cast with Johnny Pacar, Jenna Elfman, Janeane Garofalo and Camryn Manheim.

The Book of Tomorrow

Another film playing at the TVIFF is a 20 minute short called The Book of Tomorrow, written and directed by David Yohe.  Hollywire sat down with David and discussed the inspiration behind his film.  Yohe explained that he wanted to create a kid's film that was reminiscent of the adventure movies he loved like Goonies, Never Ending Story, and Last Star Fighter, but with a modern spin.  Yohe and crew shot on location in Lancaster CA, which he calls 'the midwest of California'! David said that when it comes to making a film, "There are the three Ps, Passion, People, and Projects.  If you have those three things, then everything else falls into place."  He quoted one of his favorite phrases from the book The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd; "Don't get it right, get it written."  He then told us that when it comes to telling your story, trust your gut.

The Book of Tomorrow has already won best film at Comicon and Hollyshort, and I predict those awards will not be the last of the accolades!  David Yohe gave Hollywire an advanced copy of the short, and it was a big hit!  A really fun movie shot on 35MM, The Book of Tomorrow is geared towards kids, but anyone with an imagination will appreciate the fine story telling and sense of adventure.  The only problem with the movie is that we wanted more!

Crasher

TVIFF will be the premiere festival for a documentary simply called Crasher.  The premise of this movie is this; Can you crash a major event in post 9/11 America?  The crashers say yes!  Scott Weiss teams up with Ron Magid and Larry Torro for this documentary and let the camera roll through all the gatecrashing.  The three crashers made sure that they had a 'fly by the seat' approach, and document what happens when they crash all these A-List events.  Trying to push the limits, the crashers wanted to see how much success could be achieved with the smallest amount of preparation.  The movie follows Weiss, Magid and Torro over 12 months as they crash big events, such as The Emmys, The Grammys, and The Academy Awards.  Weiss told Hollywire that "The 2009 Oscars used their movie, Crasher, as a training video for the security!"  Watch as these men make a mockery of the security when they attempt, and succeed in most cases, to crash some of Hollywood's biggest events

The TVIFF will also showcase unsigned music acts during the Musicfest on Sept 11th and 12th.  For more information about the festival, visit Temecula Valley Internation Film Festival website.
