Jake Gyllenhaal And Jim Carrey To Star In Musical "Damn Yankees"

It looks like Hugh Jackman has started a trend and has made musicals popular again.
According to Variety, New Line Cinema is making a movie version of the Broadway hit "Damn Yankees" and will star Jake Gyllenhaal and JIm Carrey. The movie will stick closely to the plays storyline:
Joe Boyd, (Gyllenhaal), a happily married man who suffers from a lifelong devotion to a losing baseball team, one night meets the Devil (Carrey), who convinces him to sell his soul and become Joe Hardy, the all-star slugger the team is desperate for. Boyd can escape the deal, as long as he does it before the World Series — but to keep him tempted, the Devil hires the gorgeous Lola to seduce him.
The call is out for directors and the lucky actress who will get to play Lola. But for now, the producers (who happen to be Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the duo behind “Hairspray” and “Chicago”) are concentrating on the script, which is being penned by Lowell Ganz and Babaloo Mandel.
What do you think about Jake and Jim, not only being in a musical, but singing in one? I'm a little on the fence. Without knowing what those two sound like...they could either make or break the performances. Also, I wonder who will play Lola. I'm sure that will play a big part as well.
