James Cameron now king of the UNIVERSE
It was recently reported that Avatar surpassed Titanic in ticket sales, making it the new top-grossing movie of all time. Of course, there is hot debate continuing about the validity of such a title, given such things as inflation and rising ticket prices (3D tickets for Avatar in some places run as high as $17.50, while tickets for classic films like Gone With the Wind went for less than a dollar), but there is no arguing the fact that Avatar is a monumental film achievement.Another interesting thing to keep in mind is that Avatar has made its money, almost $1.9 billion thus far, in six weeks, compared to Titanic's 41-week run in theaters, which netted it $1.84 billion. It's anyone's guess how much longer Avatar will remain in theaters, but there is no doubt that it will be playing for several more months. Should be interesting to see what the final tally is!
