This little number was incredibly clever and fun. Hopefully, it is prophetic as well; musicals are great!
Winners and Losers!
Raves:
Slumdog Millionaire was the big winner this year, and I am incredibly excited about the awards going to this unique and fascinating film. Though Oscar anticipation was high as the awards night approached, this movie seemed to catch everyone by surprise before the ceremony was ever mentioned. While more "Bollywood" than Hollywood, this film's success has shown that people are truly moved by the struggles of people outside their own culture, and that's what a winning film should feature. And what's more, Dev Patel is fantastic; he really brought a lot of spirit to the show.Wall-E also received the award for "Animated Feature Film", which should come as no surprise; who doesn't love a futuristic, adorable little robot who goes on a grand adventure?
Rants:
"Actor in a Supporting Role" went to Heath Ledger. Of course. The reason for this rant is that it seems like the main reason Heath won this is because (wait for it, here comes the blasphemy) he died before the movie came out, and it seems that he got the award on the fear of the overwhelming outrage that would come if he didn't get it. Sure, he did a good job in The Dark Knight, but would he have gotten the award if he was still alive? We'll never know.
People
Rant Rave:
John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston together forever for nowI wasn't sure at first if this was a rant or rave--these two can't seem to make up their mind about whether they are or they aren't together, and I get dizzy trying to keep their on and off again status straight. But coming together to such a big function persuaded me that these two are getting serious, and in the end, I have to say it's a good thing. After all the drama Miss Aniston has been through, I'm glad she has some security in her relationship now--and all props that it's with a younger man!
Fashion
Raves:
Amy Adams looked absolutely stunning, no Doubt about it. Whoever said redheads can't wear red obviously never saw how fiery Amy looked in a strapless gown. The necklace compliments the old-time glamour of the ensemble, and the fit of the dress is incredible. And Dianne Lane! The saying goes that women in Hollywood disappear once they hit 40, but this golden girl is going strong; she was definitely one of the best dressed of the nights with this smoking number.

Rants:
This year, the big look was...Bridal Fashions? All the primes ladies seemed to be wearing white frocks perfect (...or not) for walking down the aisle--but for the red carpet? Some were able to pull off the glowing bride look better than others. Jessica Biel's number just has way too much fabric that is hiding all of her spectacular body beneath some frumpy, draped bits. Penelope Cruz's dress is the biggest of the bunch, but is still graceful enough not too look like she's trying too hard. Sarah Jessica Parker's dress could be the cover for "Modern Bride"; the belted waist is trendy, but it's not overdone. Carrie Bradshaw might consider a wedding in this (but only if the wedding wasn't too big). Evan Rachel Wood is going for the off-white bridal look; her slightly red locks give the outfit a siren look. The dress is elegant, but it seems to almost blend into her skin color. Taraji P.Henson has probably chosen the most traditional style of a wedding dress, and yet it is so flattering, and accessorized so well, that she deserves the "Best Bride" award.
Here come the brides:

Bride's Maid: Amanda Seyfried looked like she was showing up as the star of "27 Dresses"; her oddly cut dress looked like the kind of outfit that bride's maids use as an excuse to overindulge at the open bar over. But we have to give it to the "Mamma Mia" star; from the shoulders up, she looked completely beautiful. Heidi Klum's outfit went the more bizarre route for bride's maid inspired dresses; it's a dress that could only make it's mind on what color to be; shape and cut apparently were not considered a major issue. Her jewelry, on the other hand, was fabulous.

Hair-don'ts
Rants:
Oh Kate...what in the world where you thinking? Kate Winslet is a gorgeous woman, but that hair style is so oddly space; it does not fit her style at all; it was polished, but in a shellacked, rather than classy, kind of way. It's some kind of weird, helmet like...thing with a blob with two knobs on the end. And the general rule for ladies is that if your hair is so stiff that it doesn't move at all, and you can't see any visible hair pieces holding it in place, than something is wrong (check out the video to see it in action). Zac Efron somehow managed to look like a 40-year-old pedophiliac with that greasy slicked back style. But it makes sense; he is so pretty the rest of the time that he has to ugly himself up every once in awhile to keep the other boys from feeling too inferior.

Hair-do's
Raves:
Natalie Portman shows off ceremonious hair the way it was intended to be: regal and red-hot. She knows how to show herself off in the most graceful and lovely way ever, and she wears her hair like a crown. Robert Pattinson, in his wild hair splendor, gives a smoldering look that can only be done right when accompanied by such fierce locks. This is the look that made a million girls want to be ravaged by a vampire.

Overall style winner:
Anne Hathway

Everything about Anne Hathaway here is perfect--she is absolutely radiant. The dress looks gorgeous, but not overwhelming; her make-up is flawless, and her hair is fantastic. She is the epitome of beauty and class; although the 2009 Oscar did not go to her for Rachel Getting Married, she is still a star, and will continue to shine.
There you have it, folks; we ranted and raved and toiled away so that you could have the best and the worst of the night. Now what do you think? Who did it best; who was worst? Let us know!
