Tweens & Teens Worldwide May Be Out for Stephen King's Blood

So, Stephen King just publicly dissed Twilight writer, Stephanie Meyer's, writing skills.  In a recent interview with USA Today, Stephen compared Meyer to Harry Potter writer, J.K. Rowling, but in a bad way, stating:
"Both Rowling and Meyer, they're speaking directly to young people...The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephanie Meyer can't write worth a darn.  She's not very good."

Wow! WOW!!  WOW!!

Did he really just do that?!  He's a madman....these are fight'n words.  Doesn't he know teens & tweens can be a vicious crowd to incite?  Teeney-boppers unite and tell him what you think of his writing!  Okay, well, he can write; so maybe unite and tell him about gaining some humility and manners.

Does he think he's the be-all-end-all-authority on writing styles?  Stephanie's obviously captured quite an audience worldwide, so she's gotta be doing something right.  And, really you'd think he could have some humility in his success; this just makes him come off as jealous & immature.  He should at least give her some credit don't ya think?  I guess Stephan isn't into Sparkling Vampires...

The reason Ms. Meyer is so popular is due to the fact that she tapped into the teenage girl's fantasy of the perfect (to an unbelievable fault) guy and paired him with a girl seen as "ordinary"- it gives them hope. Albeit, false hope. She's not horrible, and the books are enjoyable light reads, but they definitely don't deserve the recognition they got.

I also happen to think that Stephen King blathers on quite a bit, so I don't know who he thinks he is. He's not better; his style is just different.

You really can not compare King to either Rowling or Meyer. While Rowling has "blasted" the community with her stories of Harry Potter, and Meyer recently trying to do the same... King has been terrifying and suspending his audiences long before either of Rowling's or Meyer's audiences were in diapers. Yes, it is a new crowd that has to be entertained. But will Harry Potter or the characters from Twilight ever be as famous as those from The Shining, The Stand, Pet Cemetary, Kingdom Hospital, Rose Red, The Graveyard Shift... I could go on all day long. Rowling has one character that is continuously being built upon. As are Meyer's characters. But King will always have several and will continue to be the master of Horror...

Syndeee says "Stephanie’s obviously captured quite an audience worldwide, so she’s gotta be doing something right". So Syndeee, you're of the opinion that the average teen or tween is an adept judge of writing skills? Hmm.. B Spears 'captured quite an audience worldwide' as well; does that mean she's talented, or there are a lot of people with piss-poor taste?

Really, in all fairness the books of Stephanie Meyer, while they do capture an audience based on their plot, lack any degree of grace in her prose. What's more, unlike Rowling, whose books are filled with comical allusions and metaphor, Meyer writing is very one dimensional. Perhaps the reason kids are so fascinated by her has something to do with her writing exactly like one, a child that is. And King, he is only stating something that should come out as quite obvious, I mean, comparing Meyer to him is nothing short of insulting.

I had to read one of her books because of my students (they love it) - at first I thought it was just bad translation but then I saw it in English as well and it was even worse than in my language! I agree with Alejandro... Everyone knows she isn´t skilled but it doesn´t mean she can´t be successful (teenage girls love her style).

Stephen King has been at the top of the writing game for years. I'm pretty sure that when you spend that much time in a profession you become fairly adept at judging the talent. For example would you believe someone like Micheal Jordan if he said another player was a poor or sub-par in some way? Of course you would; any same person would. To get to the top of any field requires a lot of talent and in many cases a lot of ego, but that certainly does not make their opinions any less valid. We go to Universities and learn from people who criticize others all the time.
There's nothing that says she can't be successful even though she's a bad writer (Dan Brown, John Grisham etc...), but success alone is no way of judging talent or quality.

But Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn, the only reason twilight is so popular is because it rode Harry Potter's fantasy coattails into the mainstream and sad lonely mature women and young teens with no idea of what romance should be clasped onto it with both hands like "OMG THIS MEANS SOMEONE WILL LOVE ME TOO BECAUSE BELLA IS SO PLAIN AND BORING JUST LIKE ME". Stephenie Meyer should be ashamed of herself. She should be filled with CHAGRIN!!!!
