Vanessa Hudgens Graduates From 'High School Musical'
A look at Vanessa Hudgens's career shows a very sharp line drawn straight through the middle. You can see where her High School Musical days end and her mature roles begin. Leaving her bubble gum pop world behind and embarking on much more challenging and darker roles. Variety reports that Hudgens has received nods from ShoWest, receiving the Female Star of Tomorrow honor.
Vanessa plays a drug addict's daughter in the upcoming Beastly with Neil Patrick Harris, a modern day take on the classic Beauty and the Beast story. Beastly is set to hit theaters in late July.
Vanessa also stars in Sucker Punch a far departure from anything she has ever done. Vanessa tells Variety.com:
"[Sucker Punch was] the most intense physical training I've ever had in my life. We'd start with three hours of martial arts and break -- and I'd pass out. Then I'd wake up with a Navy SEAL for more. The first day I was carrying 135 pounds -- and I'd pass out again. Tuesdays and Thursdays we were on stages shooting the guns."
Sucker Punch follows an institutionalized girl that escapes reality by creating an alternate world. Vanessa goes on to say that her role is, to say the least, complicated.
"It's six movies in one, and you're the same character in each story, but my traits change. In some I'm a follower and unsure about what's going on. Then we go into battle and I turn into a bada**. I was blown away by the guns I had to shoot."
Wonder if boyfriend Zac Efron likes the tough chick image?
Sucker Punch wont be out until next year due to the extensive post production required. I would think an alternate world would take some time to create.
Vanessa Hudgens is not going to be defined by her HSM role and she is taking steps to prove that. We love Vanessa and we can't wait to see her all deck out in bad!
