SHAZAM!

Rumor has it that Get Smart director, Peter Segal, is thinking of creating the next big superhero movie based on the Captain Marvel comics.  The title being tossed around for the film is Shazam!.  The first person in line to play the lead hero is Brandon Molale (Dodgeball and Mr. Deeds). Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is said to be considered for the part of Black Adam, Captain Marvel’s arch-nemesis.

Just look at him… Molale was literally BORN to play the role. He’s 6′4″, built like a football player and has the chiseled facial features of a comic book stud.

After Hollywire’s interview with Mr. Molale, it’s apparent that he is excited about the possibility of playing Captain Marvel and honored by the online campaign started by fans to help him get casted for the role.

HW: So, was Captain Marvel one of your favorite superheroes growing up?

BM: No, actually, he wasn’t; in fact, I wasn’t really into comics as a kid, but who doesn’t want to play a superhero? And if there’s anybody in the comic book world that I look like, it’s Captain Marvel.

HW: How did you find out about the character?

BM: It all started with fans online talking about how much I resembled this character. It just snowballed from there.

HW: You play a lot of tough/athletic guy roles. Have you always wanted to play a superhero? That’s the ultimate tough guy role.

BM: I’m just a working actor in this business. I’ve been very blessed to have a great career so far. Absolutely, I would love to play that character. Plus, I’ve worked with both Peter and Dwayne; Peter on The Longest Yard and Dwayne on The Rundown. It would be great to work with them again.

HW: Yeah, let’s make it happen!

BM: [Laughs] That’s exactly what I need - more people out there to say, ‘hey, that Brandon Molale guy would be great and he looks just like him!’ I’ve had people throughout the world e-mail me, so I just tell people ‘look what happened to Zachary Quinto.’ He voiced his opinion about Spock and look at him now with J.J. Abrams playing Spock in Star Trek, so I’m voicing my opinion.

Well, now you have Hollywire backing you, too, Brandon! Wait, we meant, Captain Marvel!
