Top 5 Reasons Why Punk Concerts Rock

I know the punk scene doesn't have much Hollywood glam to it--no red carpet events, not much publicity, and not too much gossip swirling around it either.  But,  the punk scene definitely has its place in Hollywood.

In the last year, I've seen NOFX, Lagwagon, Me First & the Gimme Gimmes, and NUFAN and I recently got to thinkin' 'man, Hollywood red carpet events are so much work!  It's bit refreshing to go to a punk concert...'

So here's the top 5 reasons why Punk Concerts Rock vs. Hollywood Red Carpet Events:

1.  There's never a line for the women's restroom! You have to pay the price for this convenience by rockin' out with a bunch of sweaty dudes during the concert; but during the break between bands, it is oh so nice to see a line out the men's restroom door and literally NO waiting in the women's.  This happens no where else in the universe that I know of.

2.  You don't have to get dressed up. In fact you'd look hella outta place if you did dress up.  It's T-shirts & jeans all the way at these venues.  Chances are if you get anywhere near the stage, you could end up with destroyed clothing from smelly boys getting their sweat all over you (ewwwww) or from the testosterone powered pit gettin' too rowdy; so you really just don't dress up and once in awhile it's just relaxing to not have to get all done-up, ya know?

3. You're feet don't hurt after the long night out. Tennis shoes, oh, glorious tennis shoes--no pumps, no stilettos, NO high fashion...just the cozy comfort of my Vans...ah, I luv that most.  What goes better with jeans and a tee than my cute pink & blue Vans?  Maybe I could go a lil'stylish with my "ass-kickin' boots" but even if I wear those, they're still flat.  NO SORE FEET!  Awwwwwesome.

4.  Hair & make-up is a breeze. Since you aren't dressed up & ur rockin' jeans, tennies, & a tee, you really don't have to do all that much to your hair & make-up either.  I mean, really, who are you gonna want to impress at a punk show?  Curls would really just be pointless; at most you maybe use a straight iron--easy, breezy, punkable hair.

5.  You get to be close to the band. Since Punk has a relatively small following in comparison with mainstream music, the concerts are usually held in smaller venues: Wiltern Theatre is probably my all-time fav, but HOBs are pretty good & the Fonda is pretty cool too.  Up close and personal is such a nice change over the cold & often snobby Hollywood crowd...you know, the Kim Kardashian's of the world, who come to an event and then don't even want to stop for a picture--lame.  It's casual, kick'back, and personal at Punk Concerts, so you just feel human...and human is a good thing amidst the craziness in plastic land.

There you have it girls--take a break from Hollywood and go see a good punk concert!

I know the author most likely isn't going to read this, but on the off chance that she(he?) does...

I think that the punk girl drawing may have been plagiarized for profit. I feel that the artist may want to know about that.

    Good article though.

A fellow by the name of Tim Buckley, "artist" of a webcomic called "Ctrl-Alt-Del," has plagiarized the punk girl drawing for his "design" of his character Abby. Mr. Buckley is notorious for stealing art and storylines and I hate to see him get away with it.

As has been commented already, the design for the punk girl, the third picture in this article, has been blatantly stolen by a webcomic artist, known as Tim Buckley. His webcomic is called "Control + Alt + Delete".

Please, look into this matter as soon as possible.

Sadly, he has changed the color scheme of the character 'Abby' due to people figuring out his ploy. He is now banning everyone on his forums and site that brings up the old color scheme and the lawsuit he brought up to a kid that made fan art of his work.

How convenient that all of you failed to mention that all he did was use the picture for an outfit idea, and has SAID he used the picture as a reference. He looked for references for a clothing/appearance style he wasn't familiar with and found and liked the look, and so he gave the character a similar appearance. She has the same hair colors, but not in the same style or pattern(much more pink in punk girl's hair than in abby's). Both wear tank tops, but of different colors, and they have different undershirts. Both wear skirts, but also different colors. Both have a studded belts, but punk girl has TWO belts and abby has only the one studded one. Abby's belt also has a skull, while on punk girl, there's a skull on the shirt that abby is missing. The pins on punk girl aren't on abby. Both wear something under the skirt, but on punk girl it's torn jeans, on abby it appears to be striped stockings or something. Both wear bracelets, including a spiked one, but not the same number nor are they particularly distinguished. My sister wears the same bracelets as abby, doesn't mean abby is plagiarized from HER either.

This picture was used as a reference for a style, and he openly admitted that. It's no more plagiarized that it's "plagiarizing" to look at someone on the street and go "hey, i like that outfit" and then go try to match it for yourself.

Disregard that, I was misinformed. He changed the style of her outfit almost immediately after posting the originals (after returning from a trip and having an opportunity to change it). The original WAS a bit more than a reference, but he admitted to using it and changed it even without the artist taking offense out of respect for the art. He used the style from a picture he saw uncredited on an article SUCH AS THIS ONE and perhaps was thoughtless, but had no malicious intent. In other words, *I* shot my mouth off too quick, but all of YOU are too quick to assign malice to a simple misunderstanding.
