Woody Allen sues American Apparel for $10 Million

Woody Allen appeared in a U.S. District court in Manhattan on Monday to file a lawsuit against American Apparel for $10 million for using his image without his consent. Apparently American Apparel has been using Allen's image from a scene in "Annie Hall" were he is dressed as a Hasidic Jew for their billboard and website ads. 200705woody2.jpg Allen is claiming that he has never given American Apparel permission to use his image for any of their advertisements. Allen stated in court that he does not endorse U.S. commercial products or services. The lawsuit also states that this makes the May 2007 billboards and websites for American Apparel "especially egregious and damaging." Woody Allen described himself in his lawsuit as one of the most influential figures in the history of film and claims that he maintains strict control over all projects that he is associated with.

That's very weird--a company that big should know not to use someone's image w/out permission--doesn't make sense.

It's obviously a parody ad. I mean come on, does it really appear that Woody is endorsing a product? There's not even any American Apparel clothing on the billboard. Luckily for them parody of public figures is covered by the first amendment. We all remember Hustler Magazine vs. Jerry Falwell.

lol yep it's a parody because it's funny and here's the funny part. I don't even think woody allen is funny or .001% percent amusing. maybe his ex wife now works for american apparel and though it be funny LOL.
