According to the website, www.gethipgetgreen.com, "Each year over a million birds & sea mammals die from plastic ingestion or entanglement." The same company also notes that less than 1% of plastic shopping bags get recycled.
According to Californians Against Waste, " Plastic bags, which are made from natural gas or oil, consume an energy equivalent of thousands of barrels of oil a day just to meet California's consumption."
The site also notes that, "it costs the state $25 million annually to landfill discarded plastic bags."
