Ryan Seacrest Bit by Shark

Posted on 28 July 2008 by Jyl

This weekend, “American Idol” host Ryan Seacrest got more than he expected while swimming in the ocean–while swimming “about eight feet out”, he was bitten by a shark. And by “bitten”, it really appears more like the shark nibbled on him; since swimming eight feet out will barely get you passed the sand crabs.

Ryan Seacrest Shark Bite: Ouch!

Ryan kept calm about the incident, saying,

I thought it was a stick. I wasn’t sure what happened. I saw it swim! He took a bite, and he left.”

The shark left him a little present behind; a tooth that Seacrest compared to as similar to taking a splinter out. So while no serious injury occurred, Ryan did have to take an Advil to ease the pain.

Seacrest reported the incident on his KIIS FM radio show today, and when his radio co-host asked whether anyone else had a shark incident, he said,

No, just me, of course! There were like 1,000 people in the ocean, and I get bit by the shark!

Of course just you, Ryan; you’re special! Now shake it off, shake it off, and look on the bright side: it only bit your foot, and not your money-maker face.

Shark Attacks: Don’t Worry!

To avoid the unlikely scenario that Ryan Seacrest found himself in, here is are some tips from Travelnooks.com about how to keep sharks away so you can swim in the ocean without fear:

  • Avoid wearing bright clothes like yellow and orange. These colors will definitely attract sharks.
  • Please do not entice or tease sharks.
  • Sharks have a very good sense of smell, and are easily attracted to the smell of blood. So if you injure yourself, get out of the water immediately. And for women who happen to have their period, for your own sake stay out of the water.
  • Murky waters should be avoided.
  • Gut feeling is always the best preventive measure. If you feel something isn’t fine then try not to go in to the water. And if you feel something brush you, get out of the water and check it out. A lot of shark attacks lack the sensation of being bitten. Even scientists can’t explain why (So that’s why Ryan could barely tell he was bitten!).
  • Be aware of the fishes and turtles around you. If they started to act erratic, then it’s likely there’s a shark in the area.
