“Call + Response” reveals the world’s 27 million dirtiest secrets—there are more slaves today than ever before in human history. This unique feature documentary is first of its kind, involving several prominent political and cultural figures, including Madeline Albright, Ashley Judd and Cornel West, all coming together in hopes of getting the world to act on the shocking reality of human slavery in modern society.
“Call + Response” attempts to serve as the first of many interactive activism projects and really focuses on community-based participation. The fact that the entire film was funded completely by donation is a testament to the power of every individual.
With that said, “Call + Response” refers to the well-known form of musical styling dating back to the American slave fields. Naturally, music is an integral part of this movement and film. Performances from a number of amazing artists such as, Moby, Talib Kwelli, Switchfoot, Natasha Bedingfield, Imogen Heap and Five for Fighting can be viewed in hopes of sparking that “spontaneous verbal and non-verbal interaction between speaker and listener” and getting the world to stand up and respond to the 27 million slaves’ call for help.
So check out the trailer below and the website for more information on this revolutionary movement. Furthermore, support the film, which is out nationally on October 10th, in anyway you can, especially since all of the profits will go to fund global field projects such as this.
