As we reported earlier here, Paula Abdul gave a strange critique on Jason Castro’s two performances during Tuesday’s American Idol…strange, because he had only done one of his performances. Her remarks made viewers wonder if she might be drunk, or if the show might be scripted–or both.
Now, American Idol producers are chalking up the odd evaluation to a last-minute format change, in which the judges were told to give the contestants comments on how to improve for their next song. Apparently, Paula was a bit thrown off by this change-up, and at first attributed her remarks as a mix-up with notes on another contestant. Now, it’s been revealed that her mixed up notes were actually ones she had written for Jason Castro…during the dress rehearsal! So while the singers’ performances weren’t completely new to the judges, we can now confirm that Paula is not actually psychic and seeing future performances.
Still, rumors were floating around that Paula might be let go for such an error, but American Idol producers nixed that idea; they even called her a “great team player”. And when you think about it, Paula’s quirky comments, like Simon Cowell’s snarky ones, add to the fun of the show (Randy’s comments…well, they aren’t quite as exciting). Every show needs a little bit of crazy, and Paula brings that.
So Paula, keep doing what you do–we love a bit of unpredictability!

Down to its final four as of Wednesday night, “American Idol” is just a few weeks away from crowning its seventh winner. As exciting as that may seem, the standout moment of this season, as of yet at least (who knows what other crazy shenanigans are in store), has got to be Paula Abdul’s criticism of Jason Castro’s two performances Tuesday evening…
Oh Paula, fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

Finally!!! Brooke White gets voted off American Idol. I don’t know if I could take another week of her butchering up classic American songs.
I hope Jason Castro leaves next week. He also hasn’t been able to step up his game since he sang “Some Where Over The Rainbow.” Where did his sweet reggae vibe go?
And in other Idol news:
Paula Abdul apparently has been getting a lot of slack for her comment she made to Jason Castro on Tuesday where she said that she liked his first song he sang better than his second. Funny thing, he hadn’t sang his second song yet.
“ Jason, first song, I loved hearing your lower register, which we never really hear, um… the second song, I felt like your usual charm wasn’t - it was missing for me. It kind of left me a little empty.
“The two songs made me feel like you’re not fighting hard enough to get into the top four,” she said, before being told by fellow judge Randy Jackson that only one song had been performed.
After realizing her blunder, Abdul said: “Oh my god, I thought you sang twice!”
Ryan Seacrest tried to smooth over the situation by saying, “You’re seeing the future, baby!”, before cutting her off and asking another judge, Simon Cowell, for his comments.
“This was officially the strangest show we’ve ever done,” Cowell said at the end of the program.
Paula Abdul found it necessary to quash the confusion rumors and called in to Ryan Seacrest on his KIISFM radio show Wednesday morning to discuss what happened and what she was thinking at that moment.
She explained that Nigel Lythgoe, the executive producer of AI, changed things up at the last minute and asked the judges to comment about the contestants singing midway through the show instead of at the end.
“It was so confusing,” said Paula. “The whole thing is like, ‘Hello?’ It was crazy for us. In seven years, we’ve never had to do that.”"So, the kids are coming out, and I’m like ‘Oh my God, what do we do?’ ” recalls Paula. “I just started looking at what I had written down and we’ve never had to do this before. I was reading the critique of what I had written for Jason Castro, and on the same page, I also wrote David. I got lost on my notes. And that’s as simple as it was.”
“So, you were talking about two different people, but accidentally, you said second song,” confirms Ryan.Ryan has also said this to try to help clear the Paula rumors (what rumors, I’m not quite sure): “Now, one thing before we move on – last night on the show the judges were thrown a curve ball while we were on the air, which is just part of a live show, but it sparked a lot of gossip about Paula. And, I read some of this online this morning, and just for the record – the rumors, they’re not true. She’s part of our family, and we love her.”

So right when I think America is on the right track for kicking the right contestants off of American Idol, I get disappointed again. First, Michael Johns, and now, Carly Smithson. Carly definitely should have been in the top three, she was gypted.
Next week the contestants are singing Neil Diamond songs. I think another hard week for Brooke White and Jason Castro. I’m predicting that Brooke will go. She has become the next Kristy Lee Cook. I can’t stand the “poor me” attitude any more. She’s a little old for that and it’s about time she start entertaining us instead of making my ears bleed.

Does anyone else share this excitement that I’m feeling right now? FINALLY! The country girl leaves. But I must say I am a little surprised that Kristy Lee Cook left American Idol yesterday. I actually thought that Brooke White should have left. Oh well, at least she was in the bottom three along with Syesha Mercado. I think that the American public is finally getting this voting thing down.
I’m a little excited for next week when the six remaining contestants meet up with Andrew Lloyd Webber on the set of Phantom of the Opera- The Las Vegas Spectacular. I think this will be another great week for my Davids.
Also next week, UK sensation Leona Lewis will be singing her hit song, “Bleeding Love,” which I can’t wait for cuz it’s my new fav song at the moment. Lucky me!

As sad as it is, Michael Johns is the next to leave American Idol. I never would have guessed that he would be leaving so soon. I would have definitely sent Kristy Lee and Syesha home way before him. What is wrong with our American voters? Well at least the Davids are still singing for me.
I leave you with a quote from Paula Abdul:
“Where’s God when you need him? Because this does not make any sense.”
