Middle-aged Bertram Pincus (Ricky Gervais) and nine-year old Cole Sear (“The Sixth Sense”) may be two completely different people, but they have at least one thing in common—the ability to see dead people. While Cole seemed to have been born with this supernatural skill, Bertram’s was a mishap miracle. During a “routine” colonoscopy, socially challenged Bertram dies…for seven minutes and once revived, later discovers that ghosts have an affinity for him.
In order to get rid of the pesky spirits, Bertram strikes a deal with one, Frank Herlihy (Greg Kinnear), who wants Bertram to stop the upcoming marriage of his widow Glen (Tea Leoni).
Though at a first glance, “Ghost Town” may seem a far cry from “The Sixth Sense”, I have to wonder. I mean, it’s basically guy sees dead people. Dead people need help. Guy helps dead people. Same plot line, but less scary, no? With that said, “Ghost Town” seems like it could be a pretty promising film. Didn’t “The Sixth Sense” do amazingly well?
If you think my opinion sucks, that’s fine. But why not check out the trailer below for yourself and see if there isn’t some validity to . Or better yet, check the film out when it hits theaters today Friday, September 19th. Maybe I’ll see you there.
