CJ Hits the Democratic National Convention, pt. 2

Posted on 02 September 2008 by xXxTerra

Hi, friends-

Here’s more on my coverage at the last day of the Democratic National Convention…

On my way to Mile High Stadium to hear/see Obama’s acceptance speech.

Foxxhole political correspondent Eric Wilson

This guy has been donating 35% of all profits to Baracks campaign since the beginning.

Some very nice ladies that I gave a flag to. They were too cute!

This guy was protesting the Catholic church and how it allows child molestation. He had a lot to say.

A blind white man walking with a blind black man…they see the man…not the color. We should all follow their lead.

Protect yourself from John McCain condoms passed out by Planned Parenthood. They are getting the word out that he wants to reduce women’s reproductive rights.

Obama played basketball in high school, so hence the jerseys.

All the condoms had different facts on them about women’s rights and John McCain.

Purchasing my “Obama in a Bottle.” LOL

We got to take a shortcut ahead of the 80,000 in line because we were “press.”

Dogs sniffing and making sure nothing harmful got in to this peaceful event.

How fabulous was this set?

You would not believe the amount of disabled folks that didn’t let any obstacles get in their way to be a part of this beautiful event. It was inspirational.

Very happy and blessed to be here. Thank you Jamie Foxx and Sirius Radio!

This day was the anniversary of MLK’s ‘I Have a Dream’ speech.

Jamie Foxx and Claudia

I love my job!

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson. He was very entertaining!

Freedom of speech gives us the ability to be entertaining and burdens us with the responsibility to be truthful and enlightening. I don’t mind that one bit!

A performance by Stevie Wonder!

My favorite VP of all time, who should have been Commander in Chief, Nobel Peace Prize winner Al Gore. See his movie ‘An Inconvenient Truth.’

Broadcasting with Rolland Martin from CNN. He knows his stuff and is as sharp as they come.

CNN star Rolland Martin and me

Joe Biden- I love his personality and his tenacity!

He had the full attention of every single person of the 84,000 in attendance. His speech as well as his plan was amazing.

Barack Obama looking and being very “Presidential.”

Feeling very proud. Not just because we are both African American, it’s actually deeper than that, proud to be an American in the presence of another great American, Barack Obama.

Foxxhole radio crew minus Jamie. I think he was on his way to the after party. LOL!

People were buying up anything with Obama’s name on it!

I LOVE this shirt.

It’s just that simple: Unity. Do you really need 30 years of experience to recognize that?

Of course there were a few closed-minded protestors that were ignored and laughed at. He couldn’t ruin the night for us.

Hmmm.. how many of these qualities do you posses? This guy was an idiot! Lol at “rebellious women, drunks, liberals and party animals” being a reason for you to go to hell. WOW!

Barack Obama earrings!

LOL at his shirt!

With the Denver PD. They were super nice and had little to do. It was very peaceful and the people in Denver were so polite and considerate. Happy City!

CJ Hits the Democratic National Convention

Posted on 28 August 2008 by xXxTerra

Hey friends!

Well, I was on my way to the airport Monday night to go to NYC for the US Open. On my way, I got a call from my producers at the Foxxhole (the Radio show that I do) and they informed me that I was going to be going to Denver for the Democratic National Convention. As a huge Barack supporter and a life long supporter of the Democratic party, I was both excited and honored by the invitation to witness something historical. So I went home, repacked my bags with my more “presidential outfits” (LOL) and headed to Denver.

Upon arrival into the Mile High City, I couldn’t help but notice the electricity in the air. People seemed so happy and friendly. I saw the most diverse group of people. I saw black, white, pacific islanders, Asians, Hispanics, senior citizens, teenagers, children, disabled, war vets, celebrities and every person we have all become familiar with on CNN. I saw Hillary supporters for Obama showing their support for the Democratic Party. It was amazing. Everyone was wearing pins and waving American Flags. It was a beautiful sight to see. I got to interview Michael Wilson, a life long Republican and for the first time in his life, he was casting a vote for a Democrat. I also talked to the Mayor of Newark, NJ who expressed how excited he was to have his city show their support for Obama/Biden.

When I walked into the Pepsi Center, it was even more spectacular. It was packed and I saw what a melting pot was REALLY supposed to look like. Here we were all colors, ages, religions (I saw Jewish folks as well as some wearing turbans) getting along, shaking hands, taking pictures together, holding signs that said, “UNITY,” and I couldn’t help but feel touched. When I went to my seat and started hearing speech after speech, I wasn’t bored… I was inspired. I laughed at the classic one liners from our feisty soon to be Vice President Joe Bidden, but also cried when he talked about his personal tragedy of losing his wife and child in a car accident.

I got chills and screamed and smiled when the super eloquent Bill Clinton spoke to us and looked at the screen and saw Hilary and Chelsea look like they were finally on board and the Democratic Party was united. Clinton said, “I LOVE JOE BIDEN,” and after learning a little bit more about him, I did too! I was pleasantly surprised at how entertaining John Kerry was when he compared Candidate John McCain to Senator John McCain and he pointed out some serious inconsistencies. He was so funny.

Then there was a war vet who talked about getting injured in Iraq and how Barack Obama came to visit her in the hospital with no cameras and it wasn’t for publicity. She talked about how the war in Iraq has absolutely NOTHING to do with who attacked us on 911. She was so strong. When she walked off we all saw she had 2 prosthetic legs. It was a powerful moment. Then Joe Biden’s adorable wife came onstage and told him that there was a surprise person here to see him.

The entire place erupted when Barack Obama came out to show support to his Vice Presidential pick. People went nuts and I was one of them. It was just a beautiful night. Barack was such a powerful communicator and you get a real sense that he really means what he says and says what he means. Everyone that knows him will tell you he is just a really nice guy and a wonderful man. Being there felt amazing and it’s something I will NEVER forget. It was a positive gathering, not a hate fest towards McCain.

There was an after party where Kanye West performed with a surprise appearance by my good friend Jamie Foxx. Once again, all races were there and partying together. The entire place sang along… old, young, white, black democrat and quite a few republicans… singing, “she ain’t nothing but a gold digger, but she ain’t messing with no–Brokey Broke!” Hahahahahaha! Classic moment!

-Claudia

My driver Hago, he is from Ethiopia and was so excited to finally be a US Citizen and be able to vote for the first time.He told me about horrible things still going on in Africa. Slavery is NOT over.

Everyone wore Barack/Biden pins. 2 for $5!

Just in case anyone wants to act up and do something stupid. The boys were ready to go. They had a slow day thank God!

With Sway from MTV in front of the CNN Center.

With Michael Wilson, a lifelong republican who supports Obama. He was the first to nominate him.

My interviewing skills at work. :-)

Hollywood was in the house! Actor Malik Yoba.

With my long time friend (since we were 14 years old) Jeff Johnson. He has a political show on BET called “The Truth.”  He’s as smart and gifted as they come. Future Senator, I believe. He is amazing.

My playful interview with the Mayor of Newark. I asked him what kind of after party he would throw if Obama wins. LOL!

With Oprah’s BFF Gayle King.

One of the greatest speakers of all time, and so far my favorite President. Mr. Bill Clinton. He was incredible!

OK, I look goofy here, but I just wanted to show you that I was really tearing up.

I am going to LOVE seeing a lot more of Joe Biden as VP. He is feisty, a fighter, a wonderful dad and has overcome so much. His mom was there and stole the show!

Obama/Biden 08!!!

OK, I totally lost it here. I can’t explain. YOU just had to be there.

My co-hosts from the Foxxhole, The Poetess and Comedian Lou Dix who knew EVERYONE!

With one of my favorite journalist who is so underrated, Ed Gordon!

Yes we can!

Yes I can!

I’m so happy to be a part of this. Please go out there and Ba-Rock the vote! Or whomever your candidate is… it’s your right as a citizen. Don’t waste it!

With Rolland Martin from CNN! He was nice-did you see him dancing on CNN?

People are fed up and ready for a change…

Fellow New England girl, Keisha Whitaker (Forests’s wife) and Me

Top dog at BET and film producer Reginald Hudlin

Jamie Foxx and CJ

Kanye West performs!

Poetess and CJ

On the red carpet.

Hilary supporters for Obama!

Asian American Pacific Islanders for Obama! See, I told you all types are here!

The end of a long but fulfilling day!

Watch this…

Claudia Jordan Hosts Lil’ Miss African American Pageant

Posted on 15 August 2008 by xXxTerra

Hey friends,

So, this past week, I had the honor of once again hosting the Little Miss African American Pageant at the Universal Sheraton in Los Angeles. The pageant rewards talent, beauty, performance and intelligence. There were several celebrity judges and a surprise appearance by LL Cool J! The girls ranged in age from 6 to 12 years old and they were all so adorable. These little ladies were amazing! A 9 year-old won a trip to Disneyland for her and her family and a savings bond, among other great prizes. I had a fantastic time talking to the girls and taking pictures and answering questions. I love these kids!

-Claudia

Me and my wonderful co-star, the wildly funny and smart Chris Spencer!

The girls about to go on stage and perform a dance.

There were no shortage of personality!

Special guest and R&B singer Howard Hewitt performed at the top of the show. He was incredible!

The girls were soooooo cute!

I LOVE being around the kids!

Had to make sure everyone was in the picture!

They all took turns hamming it up for the cameras.

The “My Heritage” part of the competition. They all had to do a short monologue about an influential African American.

Special awards to the little angels.

A surprise special guest, LL Cool J, stopped by and surprised all the girls with his support and wonderful message about doing their best in all their endeavors.

And the winner was 9 year old is Mishal Thrower. Congrats to you and all the beautiful girls!

On the Red Carpet w/Claudia Jordan for the ‘Meet Dave’ World Premiere and the Star is a No-Show

Posted on 17 July 2008 by Travis Snyder

Claudia Jordan ‘Meet Dave Premiere’ Last night I met up with Claudia Jordan and her girls from her radio show (The Claudian Jordan Show on Foxxhole/Sirius Radio every Monday night) to hit up the red carpet in support of her buddy Eddie Murphy’s new film, Meet Dave. There was a ton of press from all over the world snapping pics and getting interviews of various celebs including Gabrielle Union, Scott Caan, Tim Duncan, Claudia Jordan, Elizabeth Banks, & more. I was there during the whole ordeal capturing the behind the scenes experience…..

Unfortunately Eddie Murphy failed to show at the premiere–which is pretty rare. I mean how often does the star of the film just not show up to their own movie premiere? That’s not the most brilliant marketing plan. And, you should know, all the press peeps were pissed because no comment or explanation was immediately offered up to explain his absence.

Anyhow, in Meet Dave, which is a children’s sci-fi adventure, he plays not just the lead role, but actually two lead roles. So, does that mean we should give him twice the grief for being a no-show?

Perhaps he was too busy to show because is currently working on another film–a comedy-drama called A Thousand Words. It is being reported that producer David T. Friendly told People magazine, “He’s not here because he’s doing a movie and shooting - he goes back-to-back-to-back.”

“Eddie, he’ll never admit it, but he loves to work. And I think work keeps him happy.”

Claudia can’t go anywhere without stopping to appreciate her fans…

She seriously is one of the friendliest Hollywoodies you’ll ever meet….

Overall, even with the no-show of the movie star himself, it was still an awesome night.

Steph Jones’ Bday Bash Hosted by Claudia Jordan

Posted on 10 July 2008 by Travis Snyder

Hollywire is involved in Steph Jones‘ Birthday Bash with celebrity host Claudia Jordan from ‘Deal or No Deal’ & Foxxhole/Sirius’ ‘The Claudia Jordan Show.’

steph Jones Bday Bash Hosted by Claudia Jordan

Here is an interview I found on Steph Jones in Nu-Soul Magazine:

Revitalizing, magnetic, and as tranquilly sophisticated and engaging as a coffee table book, this avant-garde face to soul music has honed his skills, polishing radio tunes like Disturbing Tha Peace’s “Celebrity Chick” featuring Ludacris, Chingy, and Small World on the compilation Strength In Numbers. With his raspy, airy and passionate falsetto, Steph Jones, the Mo City Alien, is looking to turn heads with his with studio album Mr. Ordinary. Using his stereo and his records to perform a music séance to inspire him, this former Ford Model called upon the finesse of Old School favorites like Marvin Gaye, Ray Charles and Al Green to create his 2008 studio debut. Using old school jazz, soul, and quiet storm sensibilities with a hip-hop swagger and new jack swing, this certified nu-soul artist and self-classified music raconteur is a musical oddity all of his own.

How hard was it transitioning from Ford Model to singer-songwriter?
Steph Jones:
It was hard. I was actually trying to sing while I was modeling, but no one would take me seriously. After I got out of jail, I told myself that I would focus on my music and forget about the modeling for now. What I did. And that’s what I’m doing.

As a child you were Houston-born and raised in Missouri City, how have both the music cultures in both environments influenced your sound?
Steph Jones:
It wasn’t the music in my surroundings, basically it was the music played inside my house. It wasn’t the music induced in an area, because I was grounded and never had to go outside. My mother was a deejay and that was the music that influenced me, whatever she played that’s what influenced me whether I knew it or not because I didn’t grow up wanting to be a singer.

You said your mother was a deejay growing up. What was your father?
Steph Jones:
My dad was a drug dealer and he was murdered when I was 12.

So, what did you want to be growing up?
Steph Jones:
What I was doing. I was an athlete. I ran track and I still train right now, and I didn’t know that I wanted to be a singer 100% until I got to college. You know, eventually every time you hear shut up every time you open your mouth, you get a little self-conscious about it.

You began singing in college; can you tell me some of the experiences?
Steph Jones:
Pretty much, once I got on my own and no one could tell me to shut up, that’s when I started doing karaoke and experimenting with the likes of Joe, 50 Cent, The Beatles and The Dixie Chicks, I didn’t care. It was my way of expressing what’s been inside of me so long, but I didn’t know the feeling until I actually made somebody cry while I was singing karaoke. I was like, “Yeah, this is definitely what I want to do.”

What college did you attend?
Steph Jones:
Barton County Community College in Kansas for a semester, then to Santa Monica College. My major in college was psychology.

With spots on the DL Chronicles and other shows, the song “Mr. Ordinary,” it’s been very popular among indie crowds, underground crowds and enjoying much success.
Steph Jones:
Definitely.

So, Why was the Jay-Z dub added to the song?
Steph Jones:
Actually it’s not even on my album. The Jay-Z Part, that’s just the mix tape version that was just, pretty much, to capture the attention of a certain genre that normally wouldn’t listen to my style of music. So, when you put Jay-Z right there, they’ll be like “Oh, what is that?” It’s like “ATTENTION!” And that’s the version that everyone has.

On a personal note, I’m an avid fan of “Melody To Snap To.”
Steph Jones:
Actually, I wrote that while I was in jail. I spent two years. Twenty-Five months in a French prison. I got out about two years ago. It took me like 7 to 7 ½ months to get a deal, and now I am where I am today.

What inspired you to write that song?
Steph Jones:
I mean, that the fact that I was in jail, and every day I saw the Iraqi fighting with the Africans, and it’s like the same thing you see on CNN. Its like, “Man, if only the world was all on the same rhythm, on the same page.” That will never happen, but it would be like, “What if?” The world needs a melody to snap to.

With that, we haven’t seen this album…
Steph Jones:
My album is due this spring, and the single is not “Mr. Ordinary.” It’s called “La La it means love,” produced by Tricky Stewart and written by me and Dream. That will be out the second week of January, and nobody has heard it.

Why so late? “Mr. Ordinary” and “Melody To Snap To” have been on your page for quite sometime, were there any mishaps or setbacks with the album?
Steph Jones:
No, there were no setbacks. Everything’s all about timing. Because I’m a new artist and with my type of music, I’m not the type of artist that you can just throw out there. It’s all about the proper set up and it’s all about the timing but you can just throw out a lot of different sounds, but some people maybe might be confused and won’t get it. When you work underground markets like MySpace, AOL and Yahoo, and prepare people for what’s about to come then they are much more accepting than if you just threw me out there. The last half of the year, I had the “Celebrity Chick” record come out that wasn’t for my talent but for the look coming out next to Chingy, next to Ludacris and my single was going to drop which is frickin’ crazy. I was in Houston on 93.3, and I called Shock and they aired it. He said, “You can play it on the air, but you can’t give it to them.” They played it three times, and so many people called about that song. It was crazy, and they weren’t even telling people to call. They were like, “Yo! What’s that?” They’ve been hitting me up ever since: “You should get La La on your page.” (laughs) My album is an honest album. It’s very, very, very honest. The songs on my page, if you follow the music, the Steph Jones movement because of the songs on my page, those are just teasers. It’s a very solid album, one through twelve.

Are you working any jobs until the album drops?
Steph Jones:
Yes, I’ve done a few modeling gigs on the side.

Did you feel you put your lifeblood in that album?
Steph Jones:
Of course, anytime I do anything with music, I do that.

You had an experience with “Celebrity Chick,” which few new artists get. You can imagine that working with Chingy and working with other southern rappers like Ludacris is a rare opportunity. How was this experience, how has it shaped your craft in music and the record to be released in January?
Steph Jones:
Pretty much like what I’ve been doing before I was signed. I never paid attention to the radio, I never played into that because you can lose yourself in all that. When I don’t pay attention to how it’s doing on TRL or 106 & Park, then it’s easier for me to pay attention to my craft because my mind is not elsewhere.

Did you ever feel like you had to change your sound to sell to bigger crowds?
Steph Jones:
Considered that I’m a new artist, I haven’t put out any records, and the disadvantage of it is that I don’t have a particular sound. My sound, it you were to get specific with it, its feel-good music. If a song comes to me, I’m not gonna be like “What are these people gonna say?” I’m not a very self-contained artist. Steph Jones makes music from his heart and from his soul. At the end of the day, real recognizes real.

You draw a lot of comparisons to a lot of neo-soul artists like Maxwell and D’Angelo. Has Neo-soul played a part in your music?
Steph Jones:
Oh yeah. The thing is, I love music. I love Hip-Hop, I love Country. I am music. You can put me in a box, that’s why they call me the Mo City Alien because when I grew up I had so many different thoughts. Everybody called me weird, extraterrestrial and alien. As Chaka would say, “You can’t call me Pop because I sell R&B records, you can’t call me R&B because I have Pop.”

In interviews, you’ve said that you’ve drawn influences from artists like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Bob Marley, Frank Sinatra, and Etta James. How have these artists influenced you to be the artist that you have become and by far who is the most influencial artist?
Steph Jones:
That’s a really hard question because when you hear my music you’ll hear pretty much all my influences. One, when you hear my album you’ll be like, “You can definitely tell this dude listens to Prince, and you can definitely tell this man listens to Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, Frank Sinatra.” You can hear all of that in my music. The people that I study the most are Stevie Wonder and The Beatles.

What is it about these artists that influence your sound?
Steph Jones:
Their wordplay, their melodies. I’m really intrigued by colorful melodies. Feel-good songs. Sad songs. I have a song called, “Look what you’ve done.” It’s a sad song, but it feels good in a melancholy-type of feel.

Your music has been placed in several categories. Where would you category your music if you had to choose?
Steph Jones:
If I had to choose? R&B-Alternative-Soul-Pop. Not today’s R&B, I’m talking about back-in-the-day R&B, like when everyone had their own personalities. Like Marvin Gaye was different than Al Green, or different than Michael Jackson, or different than Frank Sinatra. I’m talking about that type of R&B.

On the album, were you going from a different vibe?
Steph Jones:
This is why I named the album, “Mr. Ordinary.” Because at the end of the day, I didn’t have to go out of my way to do something. This is my everyday thing, and at the end of the day this is my ordinary. I wasn’t trying to go for a certain sound; I just put the music out. How it comes in, that’s how it comes out.

How passionate are you about maintaining your individuality in the music industry that’s more focused on image than beats and wordplay?
Steph Jones:
You can’t have one without the other. I feel that if you can find a way to blend the two and make your music relatable. I think you can win, I know you can win.

Hollywire Presents: Claudia Jordan’s 35th Birthday Bash

Posted on 14 April 2008 by Syndeee

Claudia Jordan 35th Birthday

Last night we had the whole Hollywire crew out at Boulevard 3 for Claudia Jordan’s 35th Birthday Bash–and let me tell you what a bash it was–this party was off the hook. Claudia Jordan is Briefcase Girl #1 on Deal or No Deal and was previously a Barker’s Beauty on The Price is Right.

Birthday Girl Claudia Jordan

She had stunningly beautiful guests rolling in all night long–just think, all the Briefcase Girls! But, some of the guest highlights had to be Kim Kardashian of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, Director Spike Lee, and Tennessee Titan Quarterback, Vince Young…just to name a few.

Kim Kardashian at Claudia Jordan Bday

Spike Lee Tennessee Titan Quarterback, Vince Young, at Claudia Jordan Bday

My personal highlight of the evening was watching one of our writers have a dance-off with with Efren Ramirez–’Pedro’ from Napoleon Dynamite–he has got to be one of the most genuinely nicest people you could ever meet at a nightclub–he was just so much fun. You all remember John Heder, Napoleon, dancing his bootie off in Napoleon Dynamite? Seriously, Efren has got some unbelievably mad-cat-dance skills that could rival those of Heder. I wish I had video to share with you, but unfortunately, you’ll just have to use your imagination on this one.

Update:  So, it was not Efren Ramirez that one of the HollyWire Girls was dancing with–it turns out it was his twin brother Carlos!  But, we’ve heard that Efren is as equally nice and charming as his bro, Carlos! Sorry for the mistake.

Speaking of dancing, Claudia Jordan was thoroughly enjoying herself out on the dance floor as well and it was just awesome to see her having such a great time at her party. She, also, was super friendly and, of course, absolutely gorgeous. She kept shouting, “I’m 35!” –Clearly celebrating it and not lamenting it! Poor Claudia somehow ended up with cake on her face–likely someone having just a bit too much fun with her–and had to clean her self up before getting back out on the dance floor…but it was all good.

Claudia Jordan and friends Vince Young

Rounding out her guests of the evening were , Ken Davitian of Borat, Omarosa of Celebrity Apprentice, Jamie Foxxworth of Celebrity Rehab, Dwight Freeney of the Indianapolis Colts, Shaun Phillips of the San Diego Chargers, America’s Next Top Model/Deal or No Deal Girl Katie Cleary, Michael Copon of One Tree Hill, writer/producer Chudney Ross–Diana Ross’ daughter…..oh, the list could go on and on and on….so just watch the video that’ll be up tomorrow!

Oh, as a side note: Omarosa photographs horribly! She actually looks a lot prettier in person than I’ve ever seen her in pics or on TV. Oh, and her boobs, ENORMOUS! Like, geeeezzz, cover those girls up a bit!

Here’s a couple of behind the scenes photos of the Hollywire crew hard at work at Boulevard 3…one of our Hollywire Girls loved Johnny V. from Scott Baio is 45 and Pregnant; she said he was the nicest guy in the world, completely opposite of his character on the show. Perhaps he swayed her over with his adoring words to her, “Your smile lights up the room…” Um, ya, that’ll make any girl think you’re the nicest guy in the world!
