EXCLUSIVE: Conan O’Brien’s Drummer Max Weinberg Looks For A New “Boss”

Posted on 09 March 2010 by terradise

max-weinberg-7-on-the-conan-o-brien-showMax Weinberg, widely known as the drummer for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band and The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, was so worried about his job status with late night that he actually approached Jay Leno for a job.

The last few weeks of Conan’s Tonight Show run, word spread quickly throughout the halls of NBC and with Conan O’Brien staffers that the drummer wanted to continue in late night. According to Hollywire sources, news traveled fast when Jay Leno’s name was connected and it upset many staffers that were clearly Team CoCo.

But at the same time those same staffers were not necessarily surprised. Many have said that Max Weinberg is usually out for himself and its just, “Max being Max”.

Which leads us
to the recent announcement of the current Tonight Show’s band leader Kevin Eubanks who has quit to seek other opportunities in touring and albums.

By the way, this is by far one of my favorite picture of Kevin… turn up the HEAT!

Will this open the door to open more wounds in the late night feud by having Max Weinberg jump ship?  With Conan O’Brien’s future still in limbo, the next few months in late night should be rather interesting…

Conan O’Brien Releases a Statement!

Posted on 12 January 2010 by Kat

Amidst the NBC late-night line-up controversy, Conan O’Brien has released an official statement explaining his position on the matter.

conan-obrien

Earlier this week NBC announced the cancellation of Jay Leno’s show in order to move it to a later time slot.

Conan says:

People of Earth:

In the last few days, I’ve been getting a lot of sympathy calls, and I want to start by making it clear that no one should waste a second feeling sorry for me. For 17 years, I’ve been getting paid to do what I love most and, in a world with real problems, I’ve been absurdly lucky. That said, I’ve been suddenly put in a very public predicament and my bosses are demanding an immediate decision.

Six years ago, I signed a contract with NBC to take over The Tonight Show in June of 2009. Like a lot of us, I grew up watching Johnny Carson every night and the chance to one day sit in that chair has meant everything to me. I worked long and hard to get that opportunity, passed up far more lucrative offers, and since 2004 I have spent literally hundreds of hours thinking of ways to extend the franchise long into the future. It was my mistaken belief that, like my predecessor, I would have the benefit of some time and, just as important, some degree of ratings support from the prime-time schedule. Building a lasting audience at 11:30 is impossible without both.

But sadly, we were never given that chance. After only seven months, with my Tonight Show in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule.

Last Thursday, NBC executives told me they intended to move the Tonight Show to 12:05 to accommodate the Jay Leno Show at 11:35. For 60 years the Tonight Show has aired immediately following the late local news. I sincerely believe that delaying the Tonight Show into the next day to accommodate another comedy program will seriously damage what I consider to be the greatest franchise in the history of broadcasting. The Tonight Show at 12:05 simply isn’t the Tonight Show. Also, if I accept this move I will be knocking the Late Night show, which I inherited from David Letterman and passed on to Jimmy Fallon, out of its long-held time slot. That would hurt the other NBC franchise that I love, and it would be unfair to Jimmy.

So it has come to this: I cannot express in words how much I enjoy hosting this program and what an enormous personal disappointment it is for me to consider losing it. My staff and I have worked unbelievably hard and we are very proud of our contribution to the legacy of The Tonight Show. But I cannot participate in what I honestly believe is its destruction. Some people will make the argument that with DVRs and the Internet a time slot doesn’t matter. But with the Tonight Show, I believe nothing could matter more.

There has been speculation about my going to another network but, to set the record straight, I currently have no other offer and honestly have no idea what happens next. My hope is that NBC and I can resolve this quickly so that my staff, crew, and I can do a show we can be proud of, for a company that values our work.

There has been much speculation as to what will happen with Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien, Jimmy Fallon, and even Carson Daly.  Let’s wait and see how it all plays out…

The Jay Leno Show Cancelled!

Posted on 10 January 2010 by Loretta

Jay-LenoIt’s official, The Jay Leno Show will not be airing at 10:00 p.m. as of February 12th.

NBC Universal TV chairman, Jeff Gaspin stated,

I can confirm that starting Feb. 12, Jay Leno will no longer air at 10 p.m..  My goal right now is to keep Jay Leno, Conan O’Brien and Jimmy Fallon as part of our late night lineup.  As much as I’d like to tell you we have a done deal, we know that’s not true.

I knew his ratings had dropped after he was moved, but I never thought Jay Leno would be cancelled.  I like Jay more than Conan or Jimmy.

What do you think?  Who would you rather watch?

Levi Johnston Upset at NBC (Video)

Posted on 05 November 2009 by ksouthall

I don’t know why Levi Johnston is all upset about this Late Night with Conan O’Brien skit.

Levi must not have a sense of humor, because he is getting his lawyer involved, yikes!
The lawyer of the soon to be Playgirl centerfold said

“We are in the process of dealing with Twitter first. I think they have an obligation once something like this happens to make some kind of corrective measure.”

Johnston is asking for a retraction from NBC claiming the “tweets” were false.

Well DUH! Conan’s whole shtick is he says ‘this is true, we could not make this up’ and then proceeds to make outrageous and obviously untrue, but hilarious statements. William Shatner reading these obviously fake tweets beat poet style only adds the fact that its a skit and not to be taken seriously.  I hope that nothing happens with this and Levi Jonston learns to not take himself so seriously and laugh at himself once and a while.

Levi Johnston is of course the father of Sara Palin’s grandchild, other then that I don’t know what is claim to fame is. Maybe being Kathy Grffin’s arm candy.
