Hollywire Remembers Celebrities Who Passed On In 2009

Posted on 28 December 2009 by Jaclyn Mullen

2009 was a tough year for the entertainment community. We saw the passing of many celebrities…some tragically gone before their time.  HOLLYWIRE would like to take a minute to remember the following:

KUNG FU FIGHTING-Actor David Carradine passes away in Asia. Life often imitated art for David Carradine, most recognized for his role in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill. A world reknown actor, director and martial artist, Carradine’s cause of death is still being questioned. One thing’s for sure, Kung Fu fighting flicks will never be the same.

9) AS SEEN ON TV-Billy Mays death changes the world of infomercials forever. OxiClean, Big City Slider station-popular products we know because we saw the king of infomercials, Billy Mays, pitch them all. Sadly the world of infomercials won’t ever be the same since Billy Mays death this past June. That beard, that voice–irreplaceable.

8) JETT TRAVOLTA–Gone at the age of sweet 16. Last January started off with the sad news that John Travolta’s son, Jett, had passed away in the Bahamas. Since then, it has been confirmed that Jett did in fact have Autism and experienced seizures as a result of his condition. As we approach the year anniversary of his death, Hollywire remembers the sweet face of Jett.

7) STEVE McNAIR–Remember the Titans. The NFL grieved this past July when Steve McNair was found murdered in his Tennessee home. McNair had helped the Tennessee Titans make it to the playoffs four times and even played with the team in the Super Bowl. Prior to his passing, McNair had retired from football. The last team he had played for was the Baltimore Ravens.

mcmahon6) ED McMAHON–Clears the “Publishers Clearing House” and heads to the sky. We know him from Star Search, our parents and grandparents knew him from the Tonight Show. Families from all generations watched him for years as the happy host of the Publishers Clearing House sweepstakes. And in June of 2009, Ed McMahon headed to the big clearing house in the sky. Considered by Entertainment Weekly as one of the biggest sidekicks, Ed McMahon rounds out #6 in our Hollywire remembers list.

5) FARRAH FAWCETT– A pop culture icon passes away but her impact on Hollywood will stay forever. Farrah Fawcett, one of the original Charlie’s Angels, is an actual angel herself now since she lost her battle to cancer this past June. Forever feathered, Farrah used her iconic hairstyle and great looks to attract a very steady fan following. Her poster sales “broke records, making her an international sex symbol in the 1970s and 1980s.”

article-1108762-0503ADF20000044D-529_468x3404) PATRICK SWAYZE–Gone but not forgotten. With several movie credits, including “Dirty Dancing”, “Ghost” and “Point Break,” Patrick Swayze’s death has been hard on his many fans. Pancreatic cancer may have claimed his life but those who loved him will always remember “nobody puts baby in a corner.” We had the time of our life watching you P.S.!

BrittanyMurphy2

3) BRITTANY MURPHY–Left the world clueless with regard to her untimely death. Audiences loved Brittany Murphy’s character in Clueless, the film which saw her rise to fame. From there, the dark haired, brown eyed beauty starred in 8 Mile, Uptown Girls, and Sin City. While we await the coroners toxicology reports, Hollywood continues to remember Murphy who was just laid to rest this Christmas Eve.

dj-am

2) DJ AM–Sneakerhead and mash up major, passed away 12 months after escaping death in a plane crash. This is perhaps one of the saddest stories in entertainment. Adam Goldstein, also known as DJ AM, has a near brush with death when a plane he is flying in crashes killing crew members and two passengers. Then almost a year later, DJ AM is found dead in his NYC apartment of an apparent “accidental drug overdose.” A struggling addict his whole life, DJ AM lives on in his MTV series “Gone Too Far.”

1) LONG LIVE THE KING OF POPMichael Jackson. The man, the music, the legened. Michael Jackson tops off our list for those Hollywire will remember. June 25th, 2009-Michael Jackson goes into cardiac arrest in his Bel Air home and cannot be resuscitated. Months later, the world continues to weep for the “most commercially successful and influential entertainer of all time.”

Trailer For DJ AM’s “Gone Too Far” MTV Documentary

Posted on 09 October 2009 by Tammy Cakes

dj-am-gone-too-far

Here is the trailer for DJ AM’s MTV documentary “Gone Too Far”. The 1-hour show premieres Monday, October 12th at 10pm ET/PT.

The show chronicles young people between the ages of 20-25 who are battling addiction and are offered a chance at recovery through DJ AM’s mentoring.

Although Adam lost his battle with addiction, the Goldsteins gave their permission for the seven episodes to air.

“After careful consideration we have decided to air the show,” AM’s family explains in a statement. “Adam felt strongly that by doing this series he could help other addicts who were at a crisis point to get sober. Adam was fully aware that if it were not for his own sobriety he never would have achieved the level of success and happiness he had found. Helping people in their recovery was a huge part of Adam’s life. It is our hope through airing this show that people will get to see the side of Adam that we knew and loved, not just the celebrity DJ, but the honest and caring person who gave so much of himself to help others. The decision to air the show has been difficult, but we do this with the profound belief that it will inspire others to seek help.”

Posted on 29 September 2009 by Loretta

DJ-AMNew York City Medical Examiner’s have ruled Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein’s death an accidental overdose.

Ellen Borakove , the spokesperson for the Examiner’s office, stated,

We’ve done the testing and investigation in conjunction with the NYPD and in our opinion this was an accidental overdose rather than suicide.

The list of drugs found in DJ AM’s system included cocaine, Levamisole, Oxycodone, Hydrocodone, Ativan, Klonapin, Xanax and Benadryl.

It is not clear whether or not he had a prescription for the medications.

DJ AM Reality Series Is Still A Go

Posted on 24 September 2009 by Tammy Cakes

dj-am-docu-series-gone-too-farWhen DJ AM died, MTV was left with hours and hours of video footage of the late DJ’s docu-series Gone Too Far, and they have been contemplating whether it would be appropriate to air the material or not.

Gone Too Far is an “Intervention” style series where AM a sober and experienced coach mentors troubled drug addicts. The problem that MTV has is whether it would be in good judgment for them to air a series were AM mentors addicts when clearly, when he tragically passed away, he was still one himself?

The network refuses to comment on the status of the show yet, but sources at the MTV studio believe that if the series airs, it can still have potential to relay AM’s anti-drug message as intended.

Eight episodes of the Gone Too Far series had already been shot three days before his body was discovered on August 28.

Just days before AM’s body was found in his NY apartment, his AA sponsor convinced him to go back to rehab, but AM wanted to wait until he finished his gig in Vegas that weekend. Unfortunately he passed a few days later, never making it back to rehab.

The show’s original premiere date was October 5th, but that is clearly going to be moved and probably won’t be launching any time soon at this point.

Do you think it’s a wise decision for MTV to air this documentary?

DJ AM’s Memorial Video

Posted on 08 September 2009 by Tammy Cakes

This was the video that was shown at the late DJ AM’s memorial service, which was held at The Paladium in Hollywood on Thursday.

The video was put together by AM’s friend Mike B and the caption reads, “RIP to a great friend and the greatest DJ. Many thanks to Dan Terndrup who edited the piece and did an amazing  job.”

My mom always said, “If you want to be happy in life, find something you love to do so much that you’ll do it for free, then find someone to pay you for it.”

RIP AM

DJ AM Funeral

Posted on 01 September 2009 by Loretta

DJ-AMPlans for Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein’s funeral have not been officially released yet, but many believe it will take place later this week in California.

DJ AM, whose body is currently being held at the Frank E. Campbell Funeral Home in New York, was found dead in his New York apartment last Friday.  He is believed to have died from an accidental overdose.  Although, the New York Medical Examiner’s Office has not ruled out suicide and said they have ruled “nothing out.”  So far what we do know is the autopsy came back inconclusive and the coroners are now awaiting toxicology test to determine the cause of death.

In the meantime his loved ones will finalize the plans for his funeral and rumors about his death will continue to pop up all over the Internet.
