Hollywire is teaming up with GEN and walking for a great cause.  This Sunday we are taking to the streets of Disneyland and California Adventure to raise money for CHOC (Children’s Hospital of Orange County).  Help us raise money by sponsoring one of the Hollywire crew: Syndeee, xXxTerra, HollyGoLightly, Loretta, & Travis will all be walking….

….Having trouble deciding who to sponsor?  Well, sponsor Nick from Nick’s Perspective, because not only are we walking for CHOC, we are also walking in honor of him.

Nick is a charismatic kid who’s life was actually saved by the doctors at CHOC.  He was born with an extremely rare heart valve disorder.  Just 11 days after his birth, he was rushed to CHOC in an ambulance and spent the first 3 weeks of his life in intensive care.  The doctors had to repair his heart valve in order for him to survive.  The surgery was high-risk and only 1% of children are born with this disorder; thankfully, little baby Nick’s surgery was successful and he has now grown into a healthy and athletic young boy.

9 year old Nick has just begun video blogging on Hollywire and many of you don’t know him very well yet; but, you will soon enough because we’ve decided to have him as a regular on our site!  Watch for his upcoming blog on the CHOC Walk; you’ll see footage of him as he strolls through Disneyland in a 3 mile walk that, for him, gives back to the doctors and staff who saved his life.

So, you can see why the CHOC Walk is close to our hearts here at Hollywire–we walk for our Nick and all the other little Nicks in the world, who may one day need the support of a hospital as great as this.

According to 2006 tax records, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt, donated over 8 million dollars to various charities.

They have given at least 4 million dollars to their own charity the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, which was set up two years ago to aid humanitarian causes around the world.

In 2006, the foundation donated about $2.4 million, including $1 million gifts to Doctors Without Borders (International Division) and the Global AIDS Alliance.

The foundation’s other donations include:

$137,935 to the Namibia Red Cross Action Program (the birth place of their biological daughter, Shiloh)

$100,000 to the Daniel Pearl Foundation, a trust set up to honor the former Wall Street Journal reporter murdered by Islamic extremists in Pakistan(Jolie played the widow of the slain journalist in A Mighty Heart)

$100,000 to the Epidermolysis Bulloma Medical Research Foundation, which is supported by other A-listers including Jennifer Aniston and Courteney Cox.

In addition, $20,000 was donated to an art park in Los Angeles while two orphanages visited by Jolie received $5,000 each.

I can definitely see why these two are called “Hollywood’s power couple.” There is nothing like beautiful do-gooders.
