Alexa Chung has announced a partnering with Madewell, which is the heritage denim label that’s part of J.Crew Group. The goal is to create an exclusive collection due to debut fall 2010. Alexa is many things: TV personality, model, DJ, writer, photographer, downtown-cool style icon, best-dressed-list mainstay . . . and now she can add fashion designer to the list!
This partnering is her first ever collaboration with any label. Both Chung and Madewell are very excited about creating the limited-edition line. Alexa brings her vision, and point of view, to the line. Creating a sexy tomboy look will include covetable jeans and a tightly-edited group of key pieces to wear with them. The collection will be sold through madewell1937.com and in Madewell stores nationwide. Chung will also be the creative muse and face of the collection for a planned fall ad campaign.
“I’m very excited for my first collaboration and thrilled that it’s with Madewell,” says British born Chung. “This partnership came together organically and is a great fit as the brand is so classic and really encompasses my style. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working with the team and I can’t wait for my friends to wear it!”
The relationship between Madewell and Chung was a natural one, both admired each other. The Madewell team was inspired by Chung’s innate style, and in turn, Chung has been a Madewell fan (and a regular at Madewell’s Soho store), it was only a matter of time before the their mutual admiration could be fused into a partnership.
“Alexa’s style is inspiring and inventive, yet unbelievably approachable and down-to-earth,” says Madewell design director Kin Ying Lee. “The way she puts everything together is so spot-on—and so perfectly Madewell. What excited us the most about Alexa is that she has such a clear point of view, and she enthusiastically brings that to the collection.”
Nicole Richie gives us sneak peek of her spring clothing line, Winter Kate, a branch of her House of Harlow fashion line. Nicole is extending her jewelery design into a full on collection, naming the line after the middle name of her daughter Harlow.
Flowy dresses and feminine silhouettes are a constant theme for her vintage inspired line. Most of the pieces are a throw back to the hippie chic era of the 60s, I have never seen paisley done so right!
I am always wary when a celebrity has a fashion line, but I must say that Nicole gets it right. You can tell that she was the one that designed the line because you could easily see Nicole wearing the pieces herself. She has a clear point of view and the clothes are wearable, two things that designers strive to achieve in making a successful line.
Lindsay Lohan somehow got lucky and became the new face of the Ungaro fashion house. Last week she debuted her new line of clothes alongside designer Estella Archis.
Onlookers were said to be snickering and rolling their eyes, as the trainwreck sent her fashion designs down the runway.
Many critics were not impressed with the actresses artistic flair after looking at her collection of mini skirts, spandex bandeau tops and articles of clothing covered in sparkling heart-shaped pasties.
According to WWD, the fashion line was a total embarrassment, and Lindsay herself admitted that the line was a “rush job.”
“One would never guess that the lineup was designed by one young woman and ‘creative directed’ by another. Archs has her work cut out for her; backstage she said the collection ‘had to be designed very quickly.’”
“As for the clothes, they looked cheesy and dated, as has often been the case chez Ungaro during the post-Emanuel revolving door of designers. Hot pink, orange and flashy, with an overworked heart motif relentless in its execution, the collection displayed none of the promised younger side Lohan was supposed to deliver. Nor in a million years would one guess that the lineup was designed by one young woman and “creative directed” by another. Glitter heart pasties all around, ladies?”
This isn’t the first time Lindsay has sent her audience in an uproar. She was given hosting duties at F1 Rocks in Singapore, and was then garnished with boos by the audience.
The Guardian is reporting that Harry Potter’sEmma Watson is the latest celebrity to create her own fashion line. She has teamed up with People Tree to create an eco-friendly collection for young adults.
Emma is already linked with the British heritage brand Burberry, recently becoming the face of its autumn/winter advertising campaign.
People Tree is aimed at bringing fair trade and organic fashion to the 16-24 age group. Emma has been tapped as the creative adviser of The People Tree collection, putting her own brand of style on each piece.
“I was excited by the idea of using fashion as a tool to alleviate poverty and knew it was something I could help make a difference with,” she said. “I think young people like me are becoming increasingly aware of the humanitarian and environmental issues surrounding fast fashion and want to make good choices but there aren’t many options out there.”
The People Tree line, comprising 26 women’s styles and 15 for men, plus a small accessories range, will enter stores in late February 2010. The collection, which includes knitwear, cotton T-shirts, jersey dresses, poplin skirts and shorts, is described by People Tree as “clean, sexy and easy to wear”.
I love that Emma is starting her own eco-friendly clothing line. She is a huge role model for so many teens, hopefully by doing this she will inspire them to go green!
Less than 6 months after debuting her signature clothing line, The Lauren Conrad Collection, The Hills star Lauren Conrad has endured a fashion designers worst nightmare- being dropped from L.A.’s boutique Kitson’s due to “lackluster” sales.
Making matters worse, on Friday rumors surfaced that Lauren isn’t the real creative force behind her collection.
“It’s the best-known secret in the fashion industry,” an insider tells OK!. “The real designer is named Sherry Wood.”
Lauren was quick to respond saying,
“I’ve been involved in this entire process, every single step of the way. I have wanted to be a fashion designer since I was a little girl. I grew up designing and sewing dresses for my barbie dolls, and the Lauren Conrad Collection has been my dream come true.”
And LC rep shoots down the talk, telling OK!, “The line is doing amazing and is in 500 stores around the country including Bloomingdale’s. Lauren is absolutely the designer.”
While that could still be up for speculation, one thing’s for sure though — the 22-year-old loves seeing her clothes worn by others.
“I normally stop and talk to them,” she tells OK! at the Animal Fair’s 9th Annual Paws for Style event. “I think they think I’m a little odd because I ask for a picture of them!”
Although I think the taking pictures of people who were your clothing designs is kinda weird, I definitely think that Lauren is involved with her clothing line. From TV and magazine interviews she seems really proud of her creations and them finally coming to life. She seems too happy for all of this supposed hard work to be fake. What do you think?
Sarah Larson will be the face of Christian Audigier’s new line of couture dresses.
Christian Audigier said, “She is a fresh, elegant and classy girl. I saw her on a red carpet and liked her style and European look.”
Larson’s agent, Kenya Knight said that, “Sarah was picked up by Christian Audigier because she looks fabulous in everything she wears.”
E! News talked with Sarah Larson on Saturday night and she said, “I just shot it a few days ago. The shoot was very sexy and feminine. It was a lot of fun.” The ads are scheduled to debut later this month.
Rapper M.I.A. is the latest celebrity to jump on the fashion line bandwagon. It is being reported that the rapper is starting her own fashion line based on the style of clothing she wears.
Her fashion line is different than the recent celebrity fashion lines because it is completely hers. Most of the other celebrities just add their names to an already famous label.
M.I.A. fashion line will include styles like bomber jackets, leggings, and graphic tees. She states that,
With my stuff, because everything’s really bright, if you lose it or someone steals it, you can see it from miles away and you can be like, OY! Give me my shirt back.
I hope that M.I.A.’s fashion line blows all the other celebrity lines away. After all she is the only one that can truly call it her own.
Glamour reports that Good Charlotte singers, Joel Madden and his brother Benji are introducing a baby line of hoodies, babygros and T-shirts to their clothing line DCMA Collective.
“I was inspired to make baby clothes because I’m excited to share something I love with my kid. I think it would be really awesome for me and the baby to dress alike,” Joel said.
If you’re in the fashion industry you know you’re doing something right when Vogue’s head honcho Anna Wintour is excited about wearing your clothes. That being said, model turned designer, Kate Moss is set to show off her newTopshop collection tomorrow.
When Moss originally showcased her clothing line back in May, shoppers waited for over eight hours for a chance to snag some clothes. She’s hoping people will show the same enthusiasm about tomorrow’s collection.
This collection has a focus on smart tailoring, evening frocks, fitted knits and suits. Unlike the last collection, some of tomorrow’s items will come with a hefty price tag. Her collection will include a £200 leather jacket and a silk dress for £195.
Topshop spokeswoman Amy Elderton said: “Kate’s last collection was about showcasing her wardrobe but this time it’s a collection that stands alone.”
I’ve always thought of Moss as a style icon so I’m excited about her new line, unfortunately by the time it hits stores in LA everything will probably be sold out.
