Inside Hollywire: Teen Vogue Fashion Show 2008

Posted on 24 July 2008 by HollyGoLightly

Huntington Beach, CA was the place to be today if you are and of the following 1) teen fashionista, 2) surfer, or 3) Jesse McCartney fan. It seemed like everyone in SoCal that fell in any of these 3 categories found there way to HB today for the US Open / Teen Vogue fashion show. Needless to say… it was crowded.

HB Crowd 2

It wasn’t a typical lazy day at the beach as the whole place was buzzing by 2PM. Hordes of teenage girls were lined up for hours before the fashion show. (Reportedly there was a line before 10AM and the show didn’t start until 4 in the afternoon). The complacent chatter was periodically broken by sudden commotion and screaming as the crowd got glimpses of Jesse McCartney going in and out of the tents backstage.

Teen Vogue 1

Luckily, after about an hour of people watching, we were able to skip the crazy line and walk straight in to the VIP area to watch the fashion show.

Teen Vogue Lounge

Teen vogue Lounge 2

Yeah for cold water and colorful lounge chairs. Teen Vogue spared no expense as the “furniture” is clearly from Ikea and the seats are turned over trash cans. Bonus points, however, for creativity and excellent use of vibrant colors.

Teen Vogue Buffet

Teen Vogue Buffet 2

And of course, as always, I beeline towards the buffet. (Very classy, might I add!) After successfully stuffing my face full of chips and finger sandwiches, we sit down to enjoy the show.

Jesse McCartney

Here’s the first public sighting of Mr. McCartney on stage as he starts off the show. By the way chicas, Ryan Sheckler showed up today riding around in a black Escalade. Not sure where he snuck off to, but there was definitely a Sheckler sighting!

Teen Vogue Fashion Show Runway

Teen Vogue Runway 2

The runway show had a sports theme. All the models came out carrying either a ball or some sort of sporting paraphernalia like a baseball bat or tennis racket. Someone commented they were so bored of seeing models carrying golf clubs they would rather hit themselves over the head then continue to watch more of the same old continue down the runway.

Teen Vogue Runway 3

And more of the same it was…

Teen Vogue VIP Lounge 2

Teen Vogue VIP Lounge 3

At least the food and ambiance received great marks. Overall, it was a solid event. Even though the fashion show was a little redundant (I think the main offense is almost no one would ever perform sporting activities in the outfits they presented. Well… maybe Paris Hilton), I have to give them points for keeping everything organized in the midst of pure teenage chaos.

Botkier for Target: Hit or Miss?

Posted on 17 July 2008 by Maggie

Target is known for cooperating with well-known designers in the fashion industry to create “affordable luxury” for the majority of people in the market.  Recently the popular fashion designer Monica Botkier, who is famous for creating luxurious yet functional handbags, has launched her first handbag line and accessories for Target (Celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan and Heidi Klum have been spotted carrying Botkier handbags).  For those who dream about owning a designer handbag without paying a huge amount of money (The prices for Botkier handbags usually range around $400-$700) or simply are bagaholics, picking a Botkier handbag for Target may be a good choice to fulfill your desire for luxury or just add it as one of your handbag collections.  Prices of the handbags are approximately $19.99-$49.99, and clutches/wristlets are only  $19.99.  Don’t miss this opportunity to show off your fashion sense with these cheap and chic purses. click here to see the Botkier collection for Target

Project Runway’s Fan Favorite Losers

Posted on 13 July 2008 by HollyGoLightly

Only a few more days until reality sensation Project Runway returns to Bravo. I’m so excited– I cannot wait for all the new sewing room drama to unfold! No, really, I’m really excited to see more of those awesome fashion creations that come about from the challenges set forth in the show. As ridiculous as the challenges get, there are always a few designers that shine through.

Project Runway
If you watch the show religiously, as I have over the last four seasons, I’m sure you have your favorite designer that didn’t quite make it to the top honors. Even though our favorite character’s weren’t named “best in show” we still love them. Here is a quick rundown of my favorite losers from each season.

Season 4 - Rami

Rami

We all love the flamboyant, over the top & ruffly Christian Sirano (who can deny his sweet disposition and “fierce” one liners?). However, Rami is my favorite loser from season 4 for his thoughtful and carefully constructed designs. Rami rocked the final challenge. As Nick Verros (Season 2) said (pretending to be Rami) after the fashion show at Bryant Park, “You want wovens bitch. I’ll give you wovens!”

Rami is a true businessman whom has been established in the fashion industry for quite some time now. In the final challenge, he designed an entire line encompassing knits, wovens, skirts, tops, separates, dresses… the list goes on. Beyond his versatility as a designer, the refined aesthetic and attention to detail sets him apart from his competitors. Given the same amount of time, he is able to produce finished pieces that are elegant and show off his awesome technical skill.

Rami 1Rami 2rami 3Rami 4Rami 5

Season 3- Uli

Uli

Sweet, blond, and German… No, Uli is not Heidi’s doppelganger, but she is season 3’s queen of colorful prints and flowy dresses. She won the audience over with her positive free spirit and adventurous feminine style. Uli has a zest for life and even though she grew up in the harsh reality of communist East Germany, she has managed to escape the drabness of her childhood and grown to create beautiful clothes.

In the last challenge, she showed a cohesive elegant collection. I have to agree with the judges up until that point she was making the same dress over and over. However in the collection for Fashion Week, Uli stepped out of her comfort zone mixed it up with some separates, solids, & sparkling details but in keeping with her signature style. She had the prettiest, most wearable collection for the average woman and for that reason she is my season 3’s top pick as favorite loser.

Uli 1Uli 2Uli 3Uli 4Uli 5

Season 2- Daniel V

Daniel V

Daniel Vosovic…Season 2’s young designing prodigy. He wized through challenges with creative ease sending his more experienced fellow contestants into a tizzy. Daniel’s clean, elegant, and perfectly constructed designs brought him all the way to the finale where Chloe Dao snatched victory away from the fan favorite designer. I can’t overstate how bummed I was when Daniel lost Season 2’s final challenge (I’m still in denial).

Anyways, his unique perspective and design talent showed through his work. His wit, thoughtfulness, and understated personality makes him a likable character to watch and root for (unfortunately ladies, he’s gay and taken). Daniel continues his blooming career in the fashion industry (he designed all the outfits on the cover of “Bonfire” magazine from Lipstick Jungle) and he will be an up and coming designer to watch. I can’t wait to see what’s next.

Daniel V 1Daniel V 2Daniel V 3Daniel V 4Daniel V 5

Season 1- Austin Scarlett

Austin Scarlett

With a name like Austin Scarlett, you have to be from the south and a seriously fierce diva. Well, Austin is a city boy from New York New York, but true to his name he is a true diva. Austin was Season 1’s over the top personality. You couldn’t ignore his pale skin, blond hair, and the way he dresses like a Louis XIV French Courtier. But you have to give it up for the boy for not being afraid to show off his style. We all know he was probably beat up a lot as a kid growing up.

Personality aside, Austin produced some awe inspiring garments. He was the only one to use real produce (corn husks) in the grocery store challenge. He took chances and sometimes he failed to edit his ostentatious style, but no one can deny he has a point of view (not to mention he can sew like a bad-ass mofo). And although he never made it to the final 3, Austin is still doing well for himself these days. He designs his own line of (what else…) wedding gowns. Laurie from the “Real Housewives” bought one for her opulent OC wedding.

Austin 3Austin 1Austin 2

That’s my loser round-up! Can’t wait to see who becomes my new favorite loser this time around on Season 5…cuz, ya know, I’ll never be satisfied with just one winner.

Lindsay Lohan Leggings Flop!

Posted on 11 July 2008 by ksouthall

Lindsay Lohan Leggings

Lindsay Lohan designed leggings have hit the market! All three of them… For taking so long to design and release the line, you would think there would be more to choose from, however this is not the case! Poor Lindsay…

Honey, attending a few fashion shows doesn’t make you a designer.

The leggings feature kneepads (yeah) or a zipper… oh, and metallic stirrups on the other. I am speechless.

Wait, no I’m not! These are crap! Seriously Lindsay, why? These are so ridiculous, and what made you think leggings were in at all? Kneepads? These things reek of happy hooker on 5th Ave, not high fashion chic.

Also there is this leopard ankle warmer thing, that could possibly work, at say, maybe an 80’s costume party.

And that isn’t even the worst part, besides being ugly and stupid, the pieces average about $100.00

Yeah, I know! Just because you are famous that doesn’t justify a hefty price tag. All these young stars that think they are designers need to get over themselves.

What do you all think?

Baby Stilettos are the Newest Controversial Fashion Trend

Posted on 24 June 2008 by Loretta

A brand of stilettos for babies, named Heelarious, has become the latest controversial fashion trend.

Baby-Stilettos

The “tiny soft baby shoes with soft heels for infants up to 6 months” were created by Britta Bacon and Hayden Porter. Bacon said that,

I’ve always been a shoe freak and I thought, ‘OMG, what if you could take a baby to a party wearing high heels? It would be hilarious!’ The shoes are just a fun, novelty, dress up item.

Baby-Stilettos-Kayla

Although many think that the shoes are just to cute, others believe they are hideous. Some people believe that putting high heels on a baby is perverted and will rob them of their innocence. Hayden Porter responded with, ” A 3-month old baby has no idea she’s wearing high heels.”

Baby-Stiletto-Brooke

I don’t see any real difference between the Heelarious shoes and Disney dress up shoes, but I guess every new fashion is going to receive some form of criticism. Just look at the negativity that Beyonce’s new fashion line, Dereon Girls, received.

Disney-High-Heels Baby-Stiletto-Elle

I think that the baby stilettos are very cute and I can’t wait for them to come out with toddlers sizes. The shoes will go on sell starting next week at the Doll Factory in Toronto and will cost $39.95 a pair.

So what do you think, are they hilarious or hideous?

Perez Hilton’s New “Gossip” Clothing Line –Hollywire Review

Posted on 08 June 2008 by HollyGoLightly

Self proclaimed “Queen of All Media,” Perez Hilton, is launching his new “Gossip” line exclusively at Hot Topic. Which goes to show you that just about anyone with their 15 minutes quickly winding down is entitled to start their new clothing line (i.e. Heidiwood at Anchor Blue).

Perez Hilton Gossip Notebook

However, to be fair… after taking a look at Perez’s new line I have to say this Queen has managed to put forth relevant product in the market place. His signature icon is the skull with a tiara… who doesn’t love that?!

Gossip HoodiePerez Hilton TankPerez Hilton Tee

Perez has a sense of humor about his own celebrity status and he doesn’t “over plug” his name. “I keep seeing these lines from the likes of Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag that give me nightmares,” Hilton says. “My brand will be very conscious of my audience.”

Perez Hilton and Heidi Montag

Hilton doesn’t hit you over the head with “Hey, look at me. I’m Perez Hilton and I designed this so I have to put my name in rhinestones all over it!!” And thank God he didn’t name the line after himself… vomit. Are you as over that as I am?! Kudos to both Perez and Hot Topic for bringing newness to the “celebrity endorsed clothing lines.”

Perez Hilton SunglassesPerez Hilton Flip FlopPerez Hilton Bag

The “Gossip” line should also be commended for giving us an assortment of products, not just apparel. The line has socks, bracelets, notebooks…. not the boring same old same old that we’ve all seen before ::cough:: Heidiwood ::cough:: Not only is his line new and interesting, it’s affordable starting at $5-$10 for accessories and $22-45 for apparael. And of couse, every piece has Perez’s signature pink tiara’d skull, and sparkle **Gossip** logo, but for this fabulously “bitchy Queen” we couldn’t have it any other way.

Carrie Bradshaw’s Most Memorable Outfits

Posted on 27 May 2008 by Jessca

I’ve never seen Carrie wear the same outfit twice. And trust me, after watching every episode at least four or five times, I would know. I’ve even heard rumors that Sarah Jessica Parker got to keep all of the clothing?? Some of her outfts were a little extreme (anyone remember the tights with kneepads sewn on each knee? And the belt she wore around her bare stomach?), but she always looked great! Below are five outfits that every Sex and the City addict should remember.

The naked dress:

Carrie Bradshaw in “the naked dress”

Imagine shimmying yourself into a dress like this, posing for a modeling shoot, then having those pictures blasted on the side of New York City buses. Ah, to be in Carrie Bradshaw’s shoes! (Manolos, to be exact). Not that this dress even needs shoes – the effect of skin on skin is hot as it is. Does everyone remember what happened when she went out that night in this dress??

Carrie on the runway:

Carrie on the runway, DG underwear

Underwear so glamorous that it gets its own model in a New York fashion show can only be designed by Dolce and Gabbana. Carrie’s spill on the runway a few seconds after she emerges does not even ruin the effect of this barely-there lingerie. Granted, it rocks a granny panty style, but the see-through, sequined effect makes for a dazzling piece that should definitely be worn outside the bedroom.

The bubble dress:

Carrie’s bubble dress

Carrie wore this dress to a wedding circa season six and at the time, it didn’t seem too attractive. This was during the time when Sarah Jessica Parker was pregnant and HBO was doing a damn good job hiding it. However, this dress ended up setting the tone for the next big style to hit stores– flowing bubble dresses and skirts, a style that women of all ages embraced for their ability to hide a bloating tummy.

Carrie arrives in Paris:

Carrie flies to Paris

Commoners such as myself usually wear Uggs and Juicy sweatsuits on long plane rides. Carrie Bradshaw, however, is no fashion commoner. Underneath this sparkled sweater lies a black and white striped dress, with a huge flower of the same pattern pinned on the front - something only Miss Bradshaw can get away with. Her black fedora, perched to the side, is lined with pearls, matching her cream clutch. Not too shabby for a plane ride to Paris!

Carrie’s first night in Paris:

Carrie’s first night in Paris

Every girl remembers this dress. When Carrie emerges in this dress, getting ready for her first night in Paris with the “Russian”, I was in love. All I wanted to do was receive an invite to a formal event where I could wear a dress such as this one. Can’t exactly wear a dress like this to the bar down the street – it’s almost too beautiful to be worn. The fluffy petticoat, sequined top, and vintage blue makes for a glamorous combination. Too bad the bastard stood her up L

Countdown to May 30th, when we can keep our eyes out for more memorable fashion cues from Carrie!

How to Get the Gossip Girl Look and Not Go Broke!

Posted on 21 May 2008 by Jay

Have you ever looked at the clothes Blake Lively and Leighton Meester wear on Gossip Girl and said “I want that!”? Well you’re not the only one! This years hottest TV show displays creative, glamorous, and wearable fashions. From designer dresses and handbags to preppy accessories and edgy jackets, Gossip Girl has the hottest fashions on TV!

gossip-girl.jpg

Not all of us can afford the Dolce and Gabbana dresses and Valentino handbags seen on the show, but there are some great finds that can have you looking like an “upper eastsider” -but with a smaller bank account!

To channel your inner Blair Waldorf go for feminine and colorful dresses. To complete the look add a cardigan in an eye popping color, a headband - a signature of Queen B’s, and cute flats or even a colorful heel. (Dress: Anthropologie 148.00, Cardigan: Jcrew 68.00, headband: Target 9.99, flats: Steve Madden 99.95)

gossip-girl-dress.jpgjcrew-cardigan.jpgheadband-target999.jpgsteve-madden-flats.jpg

If you identify more with Serena Van der Woodsen’s sense of style look to create a combination of hard and soft. Put a leather jacket over a flowy dress, pair shorts with a funky vest, or dress up your little black dress with fun accessories, and don’t be afraid of mixing and matching color! Oh and show some leg, Serena sure likes to! (Dress: French Connection 148.00, Necklace: Urban Outfitters 24.99, Shoes: Nine West 39.99, Clutch: Forever 21 13.80)

You don’t have to be on a TV show or a bazillionaire to get the Gossip Girl look, all it takes is knowing where to shop!

Five Fabulous Ways to Celebrate the Sex and the City Movie

Posted on 08 May 2008 by HollyGoLightly

Ladies, we’ve waited four long years for the Sex and the City movie and it’s coming out in less then a month. As just as the four fabulous Manhattanites would, we need to make the premiere an occasion to remember. Bring on the couture and cosmos!!

Sex and The City 1

1. Like all good parties, you need to get the word out to your girlfriends and get them pumped up about the movie. I suggest sending them the Sex and the City countdown widget to post on their facebook account.

2. Send elegant invitations for the your Sex and The City premiere event. Think Natasha’s Influential Ladies Luncheon. When you’re a Manhattan socialite evites just won’t do. Carrie didn’t even get e-mail until season 4. What she lacked in computer savvy, she made up in style, so I guess she’s forgiven. Taking the time to purchase, make, and send invitations lends a sense of elegance and exclusivity to your event.

party invitations 3 Invitations 1 Party Invitations 2

These are some examples of some invitations ideas. Pick invitations that reflect your own personal style.
From top to bottom 1) $16.00 for 10 at Papyrus. 2 & 3) $1.25 each at paperbuzz.com. Make sure to let your guests know that cocktail attire is required and to get ready for a night on the town including dinner, drinks, and then… the movie! Pick a location where you can easily go from dinner to the movie without too much travel. The best option is to pick a shopping complex with restaurants, bars, and a megaplex movie theater so you have lots of options on where to eat and bar hop before the movie.

3. Have the girls over for “Sex and the City” night to catch up on episodes and the “story thus far.” If you only have a few hours or have a few SATC virgins, I suggest starting at Season 6 part 1. No, they won’t have the back story on Big and Aidan, but you can give them a quick run down. Once their hooked, you can offer to lend them the DVD set.

Sex and the city DVD Set

Set out some brie and crackers. Don’t forget the wine , champagne, and pretty pink cocktails.

Hospitall Party

4. GO SHOPPING! Every starlet needs a new dress for a premiere. Going to see the SATC movie is no different. Take fashion inspiration from Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, and Samantha. Everyone has their favorite style icon and this is a great excuse to take some chances with style!

New Sex and the City

Also, don’t forget about the shoes. According to Carrie, the higher the better! Now may be the time to invest in some Manolos…

Sex and the City3

5. Have a great girls night out Sex and the City Style! Gather all your RSVP’d pals and head out. Don’t forget to make reservations at the restaurant before hand so you don’t have a big group of hungry girls standing around in cute party dresses. Samantha won’t wait for a table at even the hottest new restaurant and neither should you! I would also suggest you buy tickets either online the day before or head to the movie theater to pick up tickets just to make sure you get your ideal movie time.

Restaurant

Most of all, have fun with your girlfriends. Sex and the City is all about four best friends that are there for each other through the ups and downs. Take this time to celebrate the close friendships in your life. Enjoy!
