The Oscar winning movie, Brokeback Mountain, starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger is going to be made into an Opera and hit Broadway in 2013.

Based on the short story by Annie Proulx, the opera, like the feature film, will follow the 20-year love affair of two men who fall in love in 1963 Wyoming. Wuorinen has already agreed to compose the opera, set to premier during the City Opera’s 2013 spring season.

“Ever since encountering Annie Proulx’s extraordinary story I have wanted to make an opera on it, and it gives me great joy that Gerard Mortier and New York City Opera have given me the opportunity to do so,” Wuorinen said in a statement, according to Reuters.

This should be very interesting. I can understand a musical, but Opera!

Brokeback Mountain’s Jake Gyllenhaal has nabbed the #1 spot of the top 100 Gay Icons for a second time from afterelton.com.

The website said:

What accounts for Jake’s ongoing appeal to gay men?

His doe-eyed, boy next door (yet somehow smouldering) looks certainly don’t hurt, but we suspect what really makes gay men for for him is that he doesn’t have an issue going for us. From playing gay in Brokeback to appearing at a GLAAD award show to not feeling the need to distance himself from his gay fans (remember the shout out to us done in drag on Saturday Night Live?), Jake has done as much as any actor to show straight guys there isn’t a good reason to be afraid of gay guys (or gay roles).”

Jake has many upcoming projects showcasing his range of willingness to tackle a variety of different roles. Unfortunately for the gay community, none of them have him playing gay again. This December, Jake will be starring in director Jim Sheridan’s drama Brothers, then in 2009 moviegoers will see him tackle the romantic comedy Nailed before playing Dastan in Prince of Persia (based on the video game of the same name).

Looks like a sequel to Donnie Darko, titled S. Darko, will begin filming May 18th. The cult classic staring Jake Gyllenhaal came out in 2001 and looks like some people want to try and bank on its success. But is a sequel really needed? The story picks up seven years after the first film. The premise is that Donnie’s little sister Samantha, now 18, and her best friend Corey go on a road trip to LA and are plagued by visions. I am guessing giant rabbits and meteors.

Daviegh Chase will reprise her role as Donnie’s younger sister.

The cast for S. Darko also includes Ed Westwick (Gossip Girls’ Chuck Bass),

and Justin Chatwin (Dragon Ball).

It’s being reported that the hunky movie star is deeply “in love” with his Oscar winning actress/girlfriend Reese Witherspoon, according to his pal, producer Ryan Kavanaugh. The two have been dating since meeting on the set of the movie, Rendition.

Kavanaugh believes Reese could be “the one” for Jake as well. He told People:

“I just think he loves her. (Jake) has obviously had his fair share of dating. I think eventually you come to a place where you know what you want and seeing what we saw on the set, he was certainly completely devoted to her and really loves her.”

I have to admit they are a really cute couple, and if Jake really loves her, they would also make really cute babies!

And they seem like they have a lot of fun together. I wish the two love birds the best!

Uh… yeah. I’d drink myself into oblivion too… Oh well Kirsten, you can sleep at night knowing that you’re winning. Oh wait… no. He’s dating Natalie Portman and you’re going to rehab… yeah…
