Kristen Stewart talked with Parade.com recently to discuss details about making The Runaways, which also stars her Twilight co-star Dakota Fanning.  The girls play Joan Jett (Stewart) and Cherie Curry (Fanning) from the all-girl band The Runaways.

Cinematical gave the film a decent review after its premiere at Sundance this year saying:

Powerful performances from Stewart, Fanning, and Shannon, and a song showcase that puts in bold what the Runaways were all about….

Stewart had this to say about imitating a rock icon like Joan Jett:

I think my generation doesn’t really know what The Runaways was. I didn’t, even though I was aware of Joan Jett.  She’s a legend, so it was a big deal not only to meet her, but to have her on the set.  The main thing that Joan talked about was just how much she cared about that period of her life because it jump-started her entire career.  The Runaways was one of the first all-girl bands, so it’s an incredibly triumphant, feminist story.  Joan became my friend and I was thinking about all she stood for and going, ‘Oh God, now I have to do her justice.

Kristen and Dakota both used their own vocals (watch them sing “Cherry Bomb”) for the film and its soundtrack.  Stewart practiced a lot just to make sure she sounded as close to Joan Jett as she could get.

I was really concerned about getting the music right because The Runaways have a very distinctive sound. It’s not just singing, it’s trying to sound like them. I wasn’t lip-synching. I worked hard to get like that growl that Joan does when she’s performing. I’m not saying that I did it perfectly, but I gave it my best. And I learned to play the guitar because I didn’t want to fake it

About her on-screen kiss with Dakota Fanning:

It was cool. I didn’t mind it.  The way that it happens in the script is so just a sort of moment in time and fun and natural and sort of impulsive.  [Fanning] was 15, and I wasn’t allowed to grope her. I’m actually not kidding, there are major restrictions that I don’t remember (from) when I was younger.  I don’t want to give anything away.  It’s a really passionate, hardcore scene…No, it’s just a kiss.  It’s not really a big deal.

The Runaways hits theaters April 9, 2010 with a special sneak preview being shown in Austin, TX at the SXSW Tour today!

Dakota is showing off her maturity these days and looked hot at the premiere, wearing a short dress.  The only thing is the beige/nude color of the dress blends in with her pale skin.

Kristen Stewart arrived in NYC last night and couldn’t help but laugh at photographers falling over each other as they tried to take her picture at JFK International Airport.

Kristen is in New York to promote her latest film, The Runaways, also starring her real-life friend, Dakota Fanning.

Kristen Stewart, looking very grown up and refined (I love those shoes!), dropped by the new Tonight Show with Jay Leno to talk about ‘The Runaways’, ‘Panic Room’, The Oscars and more!

Kristen clears up the cough talk when she explains why she isn’t bothered by the constant chatter from the media scrutinizing her every move. Like the cough from the Oscars. In the second clip, Stewart talks about what it’s like playing a rock and roll legend.

Dakota Fanning stars with Kristen in this movie about the first girl group of rock, ‘The Runaways’. The movie follows their rise to fame in the late 70’s showing their mediocre beginnings playing at roller rinks and small clubs.

Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart have all the chemistry!  I am personally very excited for ‘Eclipse’, this was my favorite book because it had all the action that ‘Breaking Dawn’ was missing.  I am very curious to see how the action plays out.

Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning give it their all in the music video for rock classic ‘Cherry Bomb’ from the movie The Runaways.

I must say, these two young starlets really capture the raw power that was The Runaways.  I’m pretty impressed that Dakota can prance around in lingerie and not look cheap.

The Runaways will have a special premiere at the SXSW Music Festival on March 18th in Austin and will be in theaters everywhere on March 19th.

Remember Me star Robert Pattinson (or R-Patz to you!) opens up in an interview with Parade Magazine. Robert, who is best known as Edward Cullen from the Twilight Saga, discusses how when it comes to dating, he is very different from the character he plays in Remember Me.  Here are some highlights from the interview.

“When it comes to the opposite sex, I’m not as fully confident as the guy I play. I don’t even remember the last time I asked someone out on a date, like, just went up to them and that’s the first thing I did. I’m much more self-conscious and not wanting to fail. So I tend to hold back.”

On what he learned from so-star Pierce Brosnan

“We went out to dinner in a restaurant full of all these guys who looked like bankers or brokers. They didn’t recognize me, but they recognized Pierce. And he said, ‘Notice those people looking over?’ I’m sitting there getting more and more self-conscious, even though I didn’t realize they weren’t looking at me. Suddenly, Pierce got up and introduced himself to everybody in the restaurant. At first I was like, ‘What are you doing? You’re like completely insane.’ But it worked. Everybody just relaxed and stopped staring and you could tell they were going to go home and say, ‘Pierce is such a nice guy.’”

On being compared to James Dean

“I think he was like the most influential person for young guys, especially actors, in the last 50 years. So yeah, I mean, I’m not ashamed to say I am very much influenced by him.”

In a second part of the interview, Robert defends New Moon saying;

“I didn’t like the way New Moon was treated by the critics. I think it was reviewed in the context of just being a big franchise movie. When something is so hyped, inevitably, there is a backlash against it. I think Chris Weitz is an amazing director. I really enjoyed the film. So the naysayers kind of annoyed me.”

Pattinson was noticeably absent from the Oscars, leaving Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner to work the red carpet alone. Robert is currently in London riding the Twilight wave of success and is very busy jumping right into his next project, Bel Ami, staring Uma Thurman and Christina Ricci.

It isn’t enough to have mega talent and fame, they have to sing too!  Twilight and now The Runaways co-stars, Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning, lend their voices for the Atlantic Records movie soundtrack.  The Runaways soundtrack features some original songs, as well as four covers.  Dakota Fanning, who plays Cherie Currie, sings on the four covers.  Kristen Stewart plays Joan Jett and joins Fanning on two of the four songs, ‘Queens of Noise’ and ‘Dead End Justice.’

‘The Runaways,’ which premiered at Sundance, is set in Los Angeles during 1975 when the punk scene was beginning to emerge.  Perfect setting for Joan Jett and Cherie Currie to rise to fame playing in seminal all-girl band, ‘The Runaways.’  Also in the movie is Michael Shannon (that crazy guy from Revolutionary Road), playing Kim Fowley, who is a huge influence on the rock band and plays a key part in their success.  The rock legend Joan Jett herself commented on how impressed she was with Kristen’s performance.

A special movie premiere will be set at the South by Southwest (SXSW) music festival in Austin, Texas.  Cast and crew is expected to attend, so prepare for a Kristen Stewart or Dakota Fanning sighting!

Atlantic Records says that this is the first time the girls have contributed to a movie soundtrack.  I do remember Kristen singing in the Oscar Nominated ‘Into The Wild,’ but was not on the soundtrack, as it was all Eddie Vedder.
