When one of MTV’s most popular shows became My Super Sweet 16, I knew MTV had taken a turn and strayed far away from the good old music videos. I believe the last music video I’ve seen is Fiona Apple’s Criminal. Yes, every adolescent boy’s favorite. Now, with the alleged removal of MTV’s longtime music video countdown, it looks like the popularity of the traditional music video may be gone for good.
Rumor has it that MTV is taking Total Request Live off the air; its two-hour finale airing this coming November. TRL has recently celebrated its ten year anniversary and it looks like MTV plans on celebrating their diamond commemoration with a farewell. This is definitely the end of an era …

Saved By The Bell’s Elizabeth Berkley is teaming up with MTV to develop a show that helps teen girls with self-esteem and body image issues in a workshop called “Ask Elizabeth.”
Apparently Berkley has been putting on these workshops around the world for the past two and a half years to teach young girls how to love themselves and their bodies.

On her official website, Ask-Elizabeth.com she writes:
“Dear girls, you are here in this world to shine your light and share your special gifts that make you who you are. I wanted to create a safe place for you to feel heard, to feel seen, and to get the help you need to feel your best! You are not alone… We are in this life together! There are moments in life when we feel like we are losing our way, and Ask Elizabeth is here to help you remember!!!”

Amy Bailey, Vice President of Development at MTV, said Berkley approached them with the idea.
“She does these workshops around the country with teen girls and gets them to really open up about their issues, like self-esteem and body issues. We had been looking for a program that tackled the same issues, so it seemed like a perfect match.”
MTV says they are looking to shoot the pilot for the show, tentatively titled “Ask Elizabeth,“ this fall.
I think these types of workshops for girls are a huge necessity in today’s society. I hope that the show works out because everyone, especially girls, need encouragement and empowerment and to put it on a huge network like MTV is a great idea.

First Laguna Beach, then Hollywood, and now Manhattan? There has been talk of a possible spinoff of MTV reality show The Hills, featuring LC’s sweet sidekick, Whitney Port, through all new single-girl adventures in NYC. While only speculation, these rumors have left giddy fans wondering - is it really true?

The scene has been set - Whitney left Teen Vogue at the beginning of last season, taking a challenging yet glamorous position at People’s Revolution, a cutthroat fashion PR company located in Los Angeles and New York City. When owner Kelly Catrone mentions a possible move for Whitney to the New York office, rumors started flying.
Between the constant drama between Heidi and Spencer, the excitement of LC’s life as a single, 20-something-year-old girl living in Hollywood, and Audrina’s adventures on the back of Justin Bobby’s motorcycle, Whitney is at times rarely featured in your average episode of The Hills. Which could go either way - following her around New York City could either be incredibly boring or stepping out of LC’s shadow could shed a whole new light to Whitney’s character and bring out the crazy in her. Every guy I know is already mildly obsessed with the sweet, sometimes goofiness of Whitney’s character, so if anything, ratings will probably probably skyrocket.

Another MTV “reality” show? Bring it on.

Janet Jackson is developing a music competition reality show on MTV that is scheduled to launch this fall that will showcase the pop icon as a mentor while a group of singers and singers compete for an undisclosed prize.
The show will be shot in the next few months, before Janet goes off on her world tour and will air on September 10.
“It’s really about finding who’s the next Janet Jackson or Justin Timberlake or Usher,” said exec producer Dave Broome. “And we’ll find it from a pool of people who you wouldn’t typically find it from. We’ll go to YMCAs, church groups, local community centers and try to cast the show.”
Would you tune in to watch another talent competition show?

Why does this not surprise me? The attention whores want the world to see how much they love each other so they’re trying to get MTV involved.
The gruesome twosome want MTV to do a live telecast of their upcoming nuptials.
Montag reportedly told MTV programming and development honcho Tony DiSanto that they are ready to tie-the-knot in front of the cameras.
According to Pratt, the couple dreams of having a small wedding (probably because they don’t know enough people who would want to attend) on Sir Richard Branson’s private island in the Virgin Islands, with catering by Wolfgang Puck, designer watches for all guests and a live performance by U2. (Um, good luck with that. U2 come on. High hopes dontcha think?)

Do you want to be part of a Hollywood entourage? Do you want to be on a bizarre reality TV show? And most importantly, do you have a bit of a man-crush on Brody Jenner?
If you said “Yes!” to all of the above, then it’s your lucky day, boys; because Mr. Jenner is looking for a new wingman in the show “Bromance”!
Ever since losing a member of his crew (:cough: Spencer Pratt :cough:), Jenner has been feeling like something is missing–and to fill the gap, he will have his own reality TV show to find his man!

The guys in the show will be competing similarly to “Rock of Love” or “Tila Tequila” style. The guys will take part in competitions, like skydiving, as well as try to win alone time with Brody. There is even a “hot tub elimination ceremony” each week when one of the potential bros get kicked out.
…Wait…does anyone else think this sounds kind of…gay?
The show is produced for MTV by Ryan Seacrest’s production companies. Ryan himself has said,
I can speak from experience — girls can come and go, but a ‘bromance’ can last forever.
This seems to be kind of an odd thing for Seacrest to say, especially since he has repeatedly tried to deny gay rumors. So despite having hot tub eliminations, man on man alone time, and being called “Bromance”, the show is supposed to appear (almost) completely heterosexual. It’s all in the name of fun–and I guess it’s just guy-love!

Tila Tequila blames the media and Bobby Banhart’s interest in self-promotion for her breakup, and says she was much more guarded during her second “Shot at Love” on MTV.
“I felt like he was starting to get caught up more in the Hollywood world,” said the MySpace hottie and reality star. “Because when we were talking, he was just talking about meeting with agents and getting his own reality show, and meeting with managers. Of course I was happy for him, but at the same time I thought that was really weird. Because if that’s what you were doing, then why didn’t you mention that while we were shooting? It was just odd to me. Unfortunately it didn’t work out.” Tila also said that “the media also makes it hard on us. The media says something about him, and he retaliates, and I’m like ‘That’s not how it was.’ And it ends up being, like, unfortunate.”
Tila did not want to come back for a second season because of the way things had worked out with Bobby and she wasn’t sure she was ready to get back into it. Luckily for all of us, she decided to give it another go ’round!
Tequila said she’s more cautious now about the contestant’s motives.
“This time around, I’m a lot more guarded. I’m a lot more observant of everyone and what they’re doing here,” she said. “Last season I was a lot more nicer, and this time I’ll tell you, ‘If you’re not here for the right reasons, get the hell out. Stop wasting my time.’ Because I really am not putting up with that this season.”
You tell them, girl!!

Justin Timberlake has signed on to produce a new reality show for MTV called The Phone.
Based on a Dutch series, MTV said their version is “reminiscent of films like ‘Bourne Identity‘ and ‘The Game.” The show’s premiss is about MTV hiding two cell phones at opposite ends of a major U.S. metropolis. The phones will ring at exactly the same time, and whoever picks up will be given five seconds to agree to the terms of the game and then be sent on a series of city-traversing missions guided by a mysterious voice and followed by a helicopter.
“We’re turning the reality competition format on its head and plunging the contestants into a real life ‘Bourne Identity’ - not just in the tone and creative, but also in terms of the visual style and pacing,” said Tony Disanto, executive Vice President of programming and series development for MTV said. “Each week will be an action packed mini-movie. When you watch, your heart will pound as hard as the contestants. This is popcorn TV!”
“The Phone” is scheduled to premiere fall 2008.
