They may be pushing 40, but the New Kids are returning to the block. The Boston boy band New Kids on the Block, which sold 70 million albums in the 1980s and early 1990s, has reunited and recently released a new album on Interscope Records. The reunion comes 20 years after the release of the group’s multi-platinum album, “Hanging Tough.”
“The fan response to this has been incredible,” band member Donnie Wahlberg told the Boston Herald.
Wahlberg said he was convinced to get back together with his former bandmates — Joey McIntyre, brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight and Danny Wood — when they decided to record new music. Wahlberg said he wrote 80 percent of the new material with McIntyre and Jordan Knight.
“I had no interest going out on a nostalgia tour and singing the same material,” said Wahlberg, 38.
But he added, “We absolutely will do the old songs for sure.”
Producer Maurice Starr formed the group in Boston in the 1980s, hoping to recreate the success he had with another teen group from the city, New Edition.
At the height of their popularity, New Kids sold out world tours, marketed millions of dollars in merchandise and spawned a Saturday morning cartoon.
The group disbanded in 1994. Wahlberg has acted on television and in movies, while Jordan Knight, McIntyre and Wood released solo albums. Jonathan Knight became a real estate developer.

Vh1 promises to ‘take viewers on a wild ride “behind the music”‘ as you learn about the unmatched experiences of these 5 “brothers.” This is not another ordinary reunion show…Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood, Jordan Knight & Jonathan Knight up close and personal with special interviews from N’Sync member Lance Bass, Boyz II Men, former manager Maurice Starr, plus tour managers and record execs. Inside information all coming your way!
New Kids On the Block are making a come back… officially! The reunion was on and then it wasn’t so much. But now it’s back on with the VH1 exclusive premiere of their new video “Summertime.”
They still got it folks… and by “it”… I mean a wardrobe stylist. But I digress. The new video will premiere on Sunday, June 8th at 2PM. The video will also be airing every hour in “Jump Start” (VH1’s morning video block) for the entire week of June 9th.
Does this cover remind anyone of NSync via 1998? But if you’re like me and can’t wait for the “Summertime” video… check out the single on YouTube.
Sadly, our very own NKOTB has grown up. Their new single shows that they are no longer the rowdy bad boys from the early 90’s that we know and love.
But… it just wouldn’t be right to have 30 something’s singing about “hanging out at the mall” or checking out “hotties.” No.. their new single is just right for the newest reincarnation of NKOTB.
‘New Kids On The Block’ made an appearance on the Today Show to answer some of their fans questions. They will be coming back and performing on May 16.
After months of speculation, it has been confirmed that New Kids on the Block are returning for a reunion. All five members, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg, Danny Wood and brothers Jordan and Jonathan Knight, will appear on the Today show on April 4 just in time for the 20th anniversary of the release of their mega-hit album Hangin’ Tough.
The boy band, which made legions of tweens swoon in the early ’90s, selling more than 50 million albums, became a worldwide phenomenon before calling it quits in 1994.
And what have they been up to since then you ask? Well, the oldest “Kid,” Jonathan Knight, 39, retreated back to Boston to become a real estate developer. Former members Wahlberg, 38, and McIntyre, 35, have seen successfully acting (of course everyone knows that about Wahlberg–to think he used to be our little Markie-Mark!), while Wood, 38, has worked as a music producer and Jordan Knight, 37, has continued to record.
Sadly, as good as it sounded for us NKOTB fans, the boys will not be having a reunion tour.
One of the members of the boy group, Danny Wood has refuted PEOPLE’s report saying that the boys were getting back together one last time.
On his Myspace blog, Danny writes:
Hello to everyone. Hope all is well and everyone is enjoying the New Year. I wanted to address the rumors of the NKOTB Reunion Tour. There has been no talk of this and you are getting it from source directly. Never say never, and you can’t believe everything you read.
On another note my solo record will be released in Australia in March. There are a few new songs on it and I hope you guys will check it out. Thank you so much for your continued support.Dwood
Someone hold me. I’m scared. Yes, it’s true. New Kids on the Block are planning a reunion tour. New Kids On The Block was first assembled in 1984 in Boston and had widespread success in the late 1980’s. The group consists of current A-listers Jordan and Johnathon Knight, Joey McIntyre, Donnie Wahlberg and Danny Wood. The only person I recognize inthat group is Donnie Wahlberg and that’s only because his brother Mark Wahlberg has abs of steel and produces Entourage on HBO.
Ok so why would anyone care now they NKOTB is back? I have no idea. But I think it’d be funny if they did a reality show featuring these late 30- early 40 year olds trying to get back in shape and dance. Sorry fellas, you’re no JT. It’d still be sad if say… Joey Fatone tried to make a come back. (BTW, he’s hosting Disney specials that can only be seen On Demand) Let’s face facts, you’ve run out of money and trying to cash in on hopes that people still remember’s what NKOTB stands for.
The Spice Girls are making quite the come back, but let’s see… after Spice Girls broke up the first time, one of them married British super star and mega hottie David Beckham and another one had the illigitamate child of Eddie Murphy. You can’t beat that. They were at least able to stay in the lime light despite their fame was not gained by talent or actual work. But hey, at least we still know their names!! I couldn’t name all 5 NKOTB members with a gun pointed to my head. But just in case you are die hard NKOTB fans… their official site link is below. Have fun kiddies!
