A small plane and a tour helicopter crashed in midair over the Hudson River in New York earlier today, August 8th.
It is believed that all nine passengers from both aircraft have died. New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg called the crash “not survivable” and stated, “This is not going to have a happy ending. This has changed from a rescue to a recovery mission.”
The helicopter, which belonged to Liberty Helicopter Sightseeing Tours, was carrying five Italian tourist at the time of the crash and witnesses say it just dropped out of the sky.
Divers are searching the area and two bodies have been recovered.
The pilot of a US Airways Airbus A320 managed to crash land in the Hudson River. The plane had reportedly just taken off from LaGuardia Airport when it flew through a flock of birds, which was large enough to appear on radar. The flock of birds took out both of the planes engines.
The plane had a total flight time of 6 minutes and reached an altitude of 3200 feet before it began its decent that ended in the Hudson River near 48th Street in Manhattan. Rescue workers immediately began pulling passengers from the 41 degree water as the plane slowly began to sink. Amazingly it is being reported that all of the passengers have survived. Check back later for an update, once more details are released. You can also check out yahoo.com to read what witnesses had to say.
DJ AM is now suing over the jet crash that almost took his life in September and killed 4 people.
The lawsuit was filed today in L.A. County Superior Court by Adam Goldstein, aka DJ AM. In the suit he claims that as the jet reached takeoff speed the pilots became aware that one or more of the tires had blown. The suit insists, “Rather than proceed to takeoff, they decided to abort and/or reject the takeoff in a negligent manner.” The plane proceeded to overshoot the runway and then instantly burst into flames.
He is suing the deceased pilots family, Sarah Lemmon and James Blank. He is also suing Clay Lacy Aviation, Global Exec Aviation, Inter Travel & Services Inc, Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co, and Learjet.
DJ AM is suing for pain and suffering, lost earnings, property damage, past and future medical and health-related expenses, and punitive damages.
It’s a new month, so I guess it’s time for a new death rumor.
The November victim is 35-year-old comedian Katt Williams. The rumor is that Katt was killed in a plane crash around 4:00 am Saturday morning, November 1st.
Ex- Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker opened up to Us Weekly about the plane crash that left 4 people dead, that he and DJ Am thankfully escaped from on September 19.
On his fear of flying: “I hate planes. My biggest fear ever is to be involved in a plane crash, so when that happened … well, I’m just thankful to be alive! I’m just grateful to be here at all.”
On how he’s doing” “I am doing the best I can possibly be. I’m so anxious to get out of here. …I’ve just been in surgery after surgery. I have third degree burns basically from my feet up to my waist and both hands. One of my hands was second degree burns and one was third degree burns. I’m trying to have a quick recovery and play the drums again and be able to hold my kids again. [Barker has two children, Landon, 5, and Alabama, 2, with Moakler.] I’m going nuts not being able to see them and spend time with them!”
On eating meat again after over 25 years as a vegetarian “I need protein from food rather than just protein supplements. I changed my diet. I would do anything I possibly could if they said like, ‘There’s a possibility you might heal faster if you do eat meat or just change your eating habits.’ So I did. I don’t regret it at all, I feel so much better.”
On how much longer he’ll be in the hospital? “Oh gosh, I hope not much longer. I sit here and I read books and watch TV. I think if this surgery went well, I’ll be here for at most two weeks.”
Just one week after the terrible plane crash that killed four people and left DJ AM and Travis Barker critically injured, friends are reporting that Travis is doing well and is expected to leave the hospital in a couple of weeks.
Jermaine Dupri told People magazine,
He’s doing good, he’s gonna be alright. He’s just got a lot of healing to do. He’s supposed to send a message out to everybody in a couple of days to let everybody know that he’s feeling better. He’s definitely feeling the love from everyone.
Jermaine also stated that Barker has brought in some things from home to make his hospital stay more comfortable. “He’s just now getting everything in the hospital set up for him – iPods, computers, everything that he needs. You got to make sure he is comfortable,” Dupri said.
It is still not clear as to what caused the plane to crash, but the black box indicates that the pilot knew of a blown tire. We have learned that Travis Barker’s friends died from impact injuries and the pilot and co-pilot died from smoke inhalation and burns.
Lindsay Lohan and her girlfriend, Samantha Ronson, both friends of Travis Barker and DJ AM (Adam Goldstein), are each blogging about the plane crash that has left Barker and Goldstein critically injured.

[Note: It was actually Lindsay who spelled her friend's name wrong here... it's Goldstein.]
Sam Ronson posted an entry on her own blog in response to the accident:

Travis Barker (Blink-182) and DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) were critically injured in a plane crash in South Carolina last night. Barker, Goldstein, and four other passengers were on the plane that departed just before midnight on Friday, September 19th.
Air traffic control reported seeing sparks, then the plane went off the end of the runway and crashed through a fence, finally stopping on an embankment on the other side of a five-lane highway completely engulfed in flames.
Barker and Goldstein were likely both thrown from the plane in the fiery crash–other sites are claiming they jumped from the plane to safe themselves–but each of them have suffered critical burns. Travis Barker was burned from the waste down and DJ AM was burned on his face and other parts of his body. They are currently being treated in the burn unit of a Georgia hospital.
A witness to the crash, William Owens, said he was on the highway as a fireball came racing across the road just about 800 feet in front of his car. He didn’t even know what he was seeing until he was finally able to make out the tail of a jet. He jumped out of his car to help, had to leap over flames on the road and saw Barker and Goldstein running and jumping around, throwing clothes off, trying to get the flames out. They told him there were others on the plane; but, unfortunately, the plane was so engrossed in flames there was nothing Owen’s could do to help save the remaining 4 passengers.
Both the pilot ( Sarah Lemmon, 31) and co-pilot ( James Bland, 52) along with two other passengers (Chris Baker, 29 and Charles Still, 25) died in the crash. Chris is said to be Travis’ assistant, and Charles, security. All, including the pilots, are from our local Southern California. We are very saddened to hear this news. Our thought and prayers are with their families.
