O.C. Teen Faces 38 Years in Jail for Changing Grades.

Posted on 20 June 2008 by Loretta

18 year old Omar Khan is facing up to 38 years in prison for changing his grades.

Omar-Khan

Khan, a student at the infamous Tesoro High School (Real Housewives of Orange County) and a resident of Orange County’s most prestige community, Coto de Caza, allegedly broke into his high school on numerous occasions between January and May 2008.

Prosecutors claim that Khan broke into the school at night using a stolen master key. Khan would then hack into the schools computer system using some of the teachers’ passwords and change his grades along with the grades of 12 other students.

The list of charges include altering and stealing public records, computer fraud, burglary, identity theft, receiving stolen property, and conspiracy. If convicted on all counts Khan could be sentenced to 38 years in prison.

Kind of harsh don’t ya think? After all he is just a high school student that probably didn’t even realize the seriousness of what he was doing. I wonder if the charges would have been lessened or dropped had he been the son of one of the Real Housewives of Orange County? It is obvious that there are two types of justice, the justice that the average Joe receives and celebrity justice.

Speaking of celebrity justice, here are a few examples to refresh your memory…

Nick-Bollea-Hogan

Nick Bollea (son of Hulk Hogan): Crashed his car while driving intoxicated and permanently injured his best friend and passenger. He was charged with reckless driving and sentenced to 8 months in jail and 5 years of probation.

Mischa-Barton

Mischa Barton: DUI, driving without a license, and possession of marijuana and a controlled substance. Micha accepted a plea deal that involved 3 years unsupervised probation, alcohol education classes, and approximately $2000 in fines.

The list of celebrity DUI’s can go on and on with most of them getting off with a slap on the wrist. It amazes me that the punishment for DUI is such a joke, seeing that 17,000 people in the U.S. die from drunk driving accidents every year.

More crime comparisons:

Did you know that the sentence for a first time child molesting conviction is 5 - 20 years in prison? That is 18 years less than what Khan is facing. And the average sentence for a rapist is 117 months; however, the average time served is 65 months–just a little over 5 years.

So why is this teen facing such a harsh punishment when he didn’t even hurt anyone except himself? I guess this is just another example of how ridiculous great the U.S. Justice system is. Granted he may not get the full 38 years, but doesn’t it seem just a bit over the top that it could even possibly be worth 38 years in prison? Our system is jacked, don’t you think?
