Miley Cyrus Wants ‘Sex and the City’ for Teens?!

Posted on 18 July 2008 by Maggie

miley-cyrus-idol-slutty-b.jpg

Miley Cyrus’ recent scandalous photos have been continuously spreading on the internet, and the hacker who stole the photos from her phone and emails seems to be very proud of releasing the many sexually suggestive photos and is enjoying the result of the scandal.

Miley Cyrus tells TV Guide that she wants to film a G-rated “Sex and the City.” Her comment will possibly become another featured topic for people to gossip about. Well, she can probably do a better job than Sarah Jessica Parker, since she has already had a lot of “experience” of posing “sexy” in many of her leaked out photos. Disney sure knows how to pick a “perfect” model for teens in the country, but maybe it is time for Disney to rethink if Miley Cyrus can be the role model and spokesman for them.

Sex and the City Mania Hits Theaters Nationwide

Posted on 04 June 2008 by Jessca

SATC film

I’ve always been very proud to be a girl. I celebrate nights out with my girlfriends, took a number of women’s studies classes in college, and breathed a sigh of relief when Hillary entered the Presidential race (pre-sobfest). I’ll have to admit, however, I was a little embarrassed to call myself a woman when I approached my local theatre to attend the long-awaited Sex and the City movie.

Hysteria ensued once the doors opened and fashionably dressed girls ran into the theater, frantically throwing their coats over seats and falling over aisles to get the best row of seats for their girlfriends. But once the lights dimmed and the dozens of girls in the theatre cheered, my womanly pride came back in full force and I settled in; ready to enjoy being a girl all over again.

Sex and the City Premiere

Although Sex and the City received mixed reviews, particularly a much-talked about New York Times review that reflected an unsavory opinion, I was pleasantly surprised at how the film surpassed my expectations. I live and breathe Sex and the City and was a little concerned with whether or not it would meet my skyrocketing expectations. It did meet my expectations – and more.

This movie may have not been filled with Carrie’s constant questioning narrative, highlighted Samantha’s racy sex life, or followed the ladies on their dates. Instead, it moved with the characters’ ages and highlighted the next phase of their lives, without losing that SATC charm.

Sex and the City Movie

Critical reviews were not lost on me. The movie was rather long, at 2 hours and 22 minutes to be exact, although I was not restless or bored. Fitting the lives of four women in one feature film is not easy, nor time-efficient, and this was reflected at times. You could feel that each character was not getting the screen time that her storyline may have deserved; after all, most films do not revolve around four different plots.

Sex and the City Wedding Scene

I also wasn’t used to the all glitz and glam in the film; while the TV show reflected the characters’ love for money and fine clothing (Manolos in particular), the film seems to be a marketing ploy at best, flashing labels such as Vitamin Water, Gucci, and Vogue around the screen.

Now, for the reasons I left the theater with a smile on my face, clutching my girlfriends and pumped for a possible sequel…

Girls don’t necessarily obsess over SATC because of the fashion or the hot men. (Wait, what am I saying?) We relate to the stories of these women as they touch on our relationships with family, friends, lovers, and our careers. When Carrie goes through turbulent times with Big, we think of the one who got away. When Miranda and Steve settle into a family life that is too comfortable, we think back on long relationships where the sex has become boring and the fire has died. As Samantha finds herself losing her own character in the man she loves, we think back to ways that we have altered our own lives to please our men – sometimes almost too much.

Wedding Dress Sex and the City Movie

The film highlights these developing issues in the characters’ lives. Funny dating tales are replaced by major life changes – marriage, pregnancy, cheating, living with a man. And in the end, the friendships between these ladies remain just as strong, despite the paths in which their lives have taken them.

There has been talk of a sequel, and although I won’t spoil the ending for anyone, I’m not sure how they will tie one in. I don’t doubt that it’s possible – if it’s possible to transition from an HBO television series into a multi-million dollar movie that draws hoards of screaming women, a sequel seems to be fitting.

Carrie Bradshaw’s Most Memorable Outfits

Posted on 27 May 2008 by Jessca

I’ve never seen Carrie wear the same outfit twice. And trust me, after watching every episode at least four or five times, I would know. I’ve even heard rumors that Sarah Jessica Parker got to keep all of the clothing?? Some of her outfts were a little extreme (anyone remember the tights with kneepads sewn on each knee? And the belt she wore around her bare stomach?), but she always looked great! Below are five outfits that every Sex and the City addict should remember.

The naked dress:

Carrie Bradshaw in “the naked dress”

Imagine shimmying yourself into a dress like this, posing for a modeling shoot, then having those pictures blasted on the side of New York City buses. Ah, to be in Carrie Bradshaw’s shoes! (Manolos, to be exact). Not that this dress even needs shoes – the effect of skin on skin is hot as it is. Does everyone remember what happened when she went out that night in this dress??

Carrie on the runway:

Carrie on the runway, DG underwear

Underwear so glamorous that it gets its own model in a New York fashion show can only be designed by Dolce and Gabbana. Carrie’s spill on the runway a few seconds after she emerges does not even ruin the effect of this barely-there lingerie. Granted, it rocks a granny panty style, but the see-through, sequined effect makes for a dazzling piece that should definitely be worn outside the bedroom.

The bubble dress:

Carrie’s bubble dress

Carrie wore this dress to a wedding circa season six and at the time, it didn’t seem too attractive. This was during the time when Sarah Jessica Parker was pregnant and HBO was doing a damn good job hiding it. However, this dress ended up setting the tone for the next big style to hit stores– flowing bubble dresses and skirts, a style that women of all ages embraced for their ability to hide a bloating tummy.

Carrie arrives in Paris:

Carrie flies to Paris

Commoners such as myself usually wear Uggs and Juicy sweatsuits on long plane rides. Carrie Bradshaw, however, is no fashion commoner. Underneath this sparkled sweater lies a black and white striped dress, with a huge flower of the same pattern pinned on the front - something only Miss Bradshaw can get away with. Her black fedora, perched to the side, is lined with pearls, matching her cream clutch. Not too shabby for a plane ride to Paris!

Carrie’s first night in Paris:

Carrie’s first night in Paris

Every girl remembers this dress. When Carrie emerges in this dress, getting ready for her first night in Paris with the “Russian”, I was in love. All I wanted to do was receive an invite to a formal event where I could wear a dress such as this one. Can’t exactly wear a dress like this to the bar down the street – it’s almost too beautiful to be worn. The fluffy petticoat, sequined top, and vintage blue makes for a glamorous combination. Too bad the bastard stood her up L

Countdown to May 30th, when we can keep our eyes out for more memorable fashion cues from Carrie!

Top 6 ‘Sex and the City Episodes’ to Watch Before Movie Premier

Posted on 25 May 2008 by ksouthall

It has been a long 4 years sans Sex in the City and many have been foaming at the mouth in anticipation for the big screen premier of the popular series.

Sex and the City

If you are already Sex savvy, then I suggest watching the entire season 6 as a refresher before the big day. Lucky for you if you have HBO, because you can catch the whole season On Demand through your cable provider…failing that, you can always rent. Don’t have time to watch? HBO’s website offers an entire episode synopsis that you can read at your leisure.

If you’re new to Sex and the City, but want to get in on the fun, then this story is for you!

Here is a list I have complied of the top six episodes to watch to get familiar with the girls story lines. Why six? Because I said so…just love it; or don’t.

1) Start with the season 4 finale, episode 66 entitled I heart NY

Mr. Big Carrie Bradshaw

Carrie and Aidan have just broken up in a prior episode and you really see the chemistry between her and Big here. Samantha has really grown as a character and develops a relationship with a man she cares about. She also gets an eye opening lesson on how relationships work and ultimately learns the largest lesson of all: when you give your heart to someone you run the risk of getting hurt. Charlotte has finally divorced Trey and is starting to move on, while Miranda begins the biggest relationship of her life. Grab the tissues, this is a good one!

2) Next, I recommend season 6, episode 80 entitled Hop, Skip and a Week

Charlotte York

This skips ahead a little but it is a wonderful episode in Charlotte’s story showing how she and new boyfriend Harry have broken up (not seen in this episode) after Charlotte pushes him to set a date for a wedding reasoning that she is too good for him. This episode shows the aftermath and shows Charlotte going through the hardest break up she has ever had, but she ultimately wins him back by realizing what she really wants. Carrie begins to have problems with new beau Berger. This is the episode featuring the infamous ‘Post It’ note. Samantha has moved on and is starting to get serious with Smith as his career begins to take off. This also shows Miranda’s struggles with balancing a child and a high demanding job.

3) Moving on a bit, the next must see episode is #82 entitled The Catch, also from season 6

Carrie Bradshaw

A hilarious episode showing each story progress. Carrie remains single after the Berger split, Miranda has an encounter with Steve’s new girlfriend, well sort of! Smith tries to take the relationship with Samantha to the next level with side slitting results, and Charlotte finally gets the dream wedding in which everything goes wrong!

4) Number 4 to watch is episode 86 simply called One, also from season 6

Miranda Hobbs Steve Brady

Another fun episode that shows progression in all the girls stories. Miranda has been seeing a hot Dr. for the NY Knicks who has just professed his feelings to her and Miranda can’t seems to return the same feelings. She is upset and worried that she is destined to wind up alone. Brady (Miranda’s kid) has his first birthday party and Miranda is finally able to say the words and express herself. This is also when the famed Russian artist Aleksandr Petrovsky is introduced into Carrie’s life. Samantha deals with getting older and some of the side effects leave her worried taking drastic measures. In all this comedy Charlotte has to deal with a real life shaker and brings the episode around into a tear jerker with a experience that leaves her stronger and more appreciative.

5) Then on to episode 88, The Ick Factor, from you guessed it, season 6

Carrie Bradshaw Aleksandr

In this one, it is Samantha in the limelight as she reveals a big ordeal that she is about to embark on. Miranda and Steve take it to the next level and utters the funniest line of the episode “I said, “no white, no ivory, no nothing that says ‘virgin.’” I have a child. The jig is up.” Classic Miranda.

6) Last, but not least, you need to see the series finale, episode 94, An American Girl in Paris (Part Deux)– well really this is a two-parter and you could count it as one and see An American Girl in Paris (Part Une) as well

Miranda Samantha Charlotte Carrie

The stories wrap up quite nicely. No matter what, you have to see this one, and don’t forget the tissues, it’s a good one!!

‘Sex and the City’ premieres in London!

Posted on 12 May 2008 by ksouthall

SATC Movie premiere

London, England is the first to host a series of premieres for the long awaited Sex and the City movie! The Red carpet was alive with fabulous fashion and sexy stars. A hum was around London’s Leicester Square Monday night as the cast arrived decked out to the nines. Each one did a superb job of living up to expectation of fashion that is synonymous with Sex and the City. All the ladies sexed it up in flawless gowns, SJP sported a fetching hat that would look at home atop her character Carrie Bradshaw’s head, Nixon left nothing to the imagination in her black Calvin Klein gown, Cattrall stayed true to New York and wore a red Vivienne Westwood dress, and Davis shined in a vintage fuschia dress, gotta love vintage!

Some people criticize the choice of city for the first screening, but Nixon said Monday’s premiere was just a build up to the main event in New York.

“We’re having a kind of smallish premiere here (and) we’re having a smallish premiere in Berlin. We’re building to the New York premiere which is enormous and happens just before the film opens worldwide,” she said.

Although the movie itself has had mixed reviews, it faired well in London and this little gal is still very excited to see it hit the big screen over here in the states! SATC Movie premiere

Sarah Jessica Parker: ‘Unsexiest Woman Alive’

Posted on 21 March 2008 by tammy

Sarah Jessica Parker: ‘Unsexiest Woman Alive’

Have you heard about this!?!

Maxim magazine bashes Sex and the City star, Sarah Jessica Parker, calling her the “unsexiest woman alive.”  Ouch that’s so harsh, right?! Now, she’s not the sexist or most attractive of all the Hollywood hotties out there; but, come’on, she’s defintely not the unsexiest.  I have to wonder where they would categorize that wreck of a human, Amy Winehouse?  I could only imagine the words to describe her, if Sarah J is The Unsexiest, then Winehouse has gotta be The Most Atrocious Human on the Planet!

This statement hurt Sarah Jessica deeply, and rightfully so, being that it came out of nowhere. She said that the statement was “so filled with rage and anger. So brutal in a way.” She went on to compare her ‘for real self’ with those women beautified by silicone breasts and collagen lips…as if by keeping her own body parts, she was somehow not beautiful in the eyes of others.

I’m sure this is not the last we’ll here of this argument. I mean if Sarah Jessica Parker is the unsexiest woman alive, what does that make a regular woman like me?  Ugh! How depressing for us mere-mortal-non-supermodelesque-women-of-the-world!

Kristin Davis involved in a sex tape scandal

Sex and the City star Kristin Davis involved in a sex tape scandalkristin-davis-sex-tape.jpg

Sex and the City star, kristin davis feature
Kristin has denied claims that she features in the video. ‘This is not a photo of Kristin Davis,’ a rep for the actress told OK!. ‘There is no sex tape.’

How can she say there is no sex tape. The girl in the pictures look exactly like her. Many are saying that this is a publicity stunt to promote the Sex and the City movie coming out soon. I don’t know, what do you think?
