A Closer Look at Funny Man Zach Galifianakis: “When you’ve got to make it funny, it’s harder.” (Video)

Posted on 18 March 2010 by ksouthall

Zach Galifianakis has made his way to main stream! After his big break through role in The Hangover, he has been riding high on the tidal wave of fame.  Although Zach has been a stand up comedian for years, he never garnered attention until he played the lovable but clueless brother-in-law Alan Garner in The Hangover.

He most recently hosted SNL, a gig that every comedian dreams of!

Zach shaved his beard for this sketch.  He was literally backstage during commercial break frantically shaving!

Now that’s dedication to his work!

It isn’t all laughs when Zach talks about comedians being looked over for awards.

“I get frustrated,” he opines, “because with serious movies anybody can look at the camera and say these words. But when you’ve got to make it funny, it’s harder.”
Putting comedies and musicals into one awards category, he adds, makes the whole situation even worse: “They are two different things. It’s insulting,” he says.

Right now his schedule is jam packed with four new movies (plus five more in development) and the second season of popular Showtime comedy series Bored to Death coming out this year.

Zach Galifianakis

It’s Kind of a Funny Story, which co-stars Emma Roberts, is a departure from the typical comedy films he is known to play in.  In an interview with Variety, Zach talks about how this film is different.  He says “It’s dramatic, a smaller movie”

Just being released this year is Rogues Gallery, something he made 2 1/2 years ago with Emilie de Ravin.  Zach plays Hermit and Emilie plays Heirophant.  Sound like odd names?  Well they should!  The movie follows a battle between government spy teams who take their names from the Tarot deck.  The action film also stars Ving Rhames and Ellen Barkin.

Zach Galifianakis

Next up to bat is Dinner for Schmucks with a July release date.  The premise of the movie is based off an old French film titled Le Diner de Cons or The Dinner of Idiots, which is a comedy masterpiece and was praised by fans and critics alike.  The remake stars Zach Galifianakis, Paul Rudd, and Steve Carrell, and is directed by Jay Roach (who directed all the Austin Powers movies and Meet the Fockers)

Zach tells Variety that;

“I play a guy who thinks he can read minds and manipulate people with his mental powers,” he says. “I didn’t do much research.”

Lastly, Galifianakis stars in the autumn release Due Date, which Zach says is “a buddy movie with Robert Downey Jr. But we’re not buddies. It’s a traveling across America kind of thing.”  At first you might think of 80’s comedy ‘Planes, Trains, and Automobiles’ but it’s actually about a high-strung man forced to hitchhike across America to make it in time to see his baby born.  ‘Due Date’ also stars Jamie Foxx and Juliette Lewis and was directed by Todd Phillips of ‘The Hangover’ fame.  So it was a reunion of sorts, sound like comedy gold!

When asked what has changed for him since the success of ‘The Hangover’ Zach had this to say!

“I get a better table at Long John Silver’s. Other than that, not to be thinking too much about it,” he says. “People keep telling me, ‘Your life’s changed.’ Not really. I’m 40. I think I have a sensible attitude. I don’t want to be recognized, but what can you do?”

Just keep on making those funny movies Zach!

Video Proof That Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper Are a Couple!!

Posted on 11 August 2009 by Lexacahn

It’s been rumored for a while that Renee Zellweger and Bradley Cooper were dating, but now we have PROOF!

It appears as if the cast of The Hangover is doing a press tour in Spain, and a “tourist” took a couple videos of the couple being all cutesy together!

The first video shows Renee and Bradley at their hotel with the rest of the cast, and at the 0:34 mark Bradley puts his arm around Renee’s waist and she reciprocates by sliding her hand in his back pocket.

The second video shows Bradley and Renee in a church, and towards the end of the video they actually kiss around the 2:01 mark!

Jennifer Aniston Gettin’ That Costar Lovin’ Feelin’ With Gerard Butler

Posted on 17 July 2009 by Becky Wilhite

On the cover of Star Magazine this week is Jennifer Aniston and her costar, Gerard Butler, who apparently are getting close like leading costars usually do on the movie set.  And rumors are swirling that Jen is doing it to get back at her failed fling with “The Hangover” star Bradley Cooper, who reportedly dumped Aniston to get closer to Renee Zellwegger.  I wonder, was this before Zellwegger started packin’ on the pounds for her role in “Bridget Jones 3″?

“Let me put it this way,” says a source on the New York set of their movie, The Bounty. “They’re both hot and single! After they finish a scene, they stick around so they can hang out with each other. Neither is in a rush to leave.”

In fact, Jen and Gerard are so affectionate on set, sources tell Star, that they often practice kissing scenes even after the cameras stop rolling! “Jen will say, ‘I think we need to do that again,’” the source says. “She says Gerard’s a great kisser.”

The pair have adjoining trailers, and they’ve been seen dashing off to Jen’s haven for a private “lunch.” During one recent visit, Gerard stayed in Jen’s trailer for 30 minutes.

“Gerard’s been after Jen ever since they met at the Toronto International Film Festival in September 2008,” a source tells Star. “He really has a thing for her. He wants to date her, not just have a fling — or at least that’s what he is telling her! He has a reputation for being the biggest cad in Hollywood, and Jen knows that. She said no to him for almost a year, but he never gave up.”

Lindsay Lohan Could Have Been in The Hangover

Posted on 08 July 2009 by Cassie

lindsay-lohan

Ever since she played Cady Heron in Mean Girls, Lindsay Lohan’s acting career has drastically gone down hill. According to US Weekly, she had her chance to make a comeback in this summer’s blockbuster hit, The Hangover, as Heather Graham’s stripper character, Jade.  BUT SHE TURNED IT DOWN!

Apparently, her agent had been lobbying for her to get the part and director Todd Phillips even approached Lindsay to star in the $205 million blockbuster. A source says, “The agent tried hard to get Phillips to consider her and when he finally agreed, Lindsay said she didn’t like the script!”

If only she had known…

The Hangover Director Is Pissed at WGA

Posted on 29 June 2009 by Cassie

The Hangover director, Todd Phillips, is more than mad at the WGA for not including one of the geniuses behind the final script in the credits. Phillips admits that he’s not a big fan of the Writer’s Guild, even calling them “WGA – Whiner’s Guild of America.”

Jeremy Garelick, who also co-wrote Jennifer Aniston’s The Break Up, did substantial revising for Jon Lucas and Scott Moore’s original script for The Hangover, but he received no credit! And we weren’t talking changing a few words, we’re talking major re-writes and key parts of the movie. Like including Mike Tyson, the baby and the tiger! Those parts made the movie!

Sooo why didn’t the WGA give Garelick any credit? Phillips explains:

“The Writers Guild has these insane rules . . . you have to prove this insane amount of work — and they have very nebulous rules about what that work is. Jeremy did a massive amount of work,” exclaimed Philips. “And the [bleep]ed-up part is it’s not even the fault of the original writers. They even agreed [to share credit]. But the Writers Guild was like, ‘No, no, you’re being pressured by the director, so we’re not going to stand for this.’ It’s just astounding.”

‘The Hangover’ Tops The Box Office This Weekend

Posted on 08 June 2009 by Tammy Cakes

When the box office numbers rolled in this morning, results showed that Up was still holding it’s #1 spot earning $44.2m, while The Hangover grossed $43.3m.

Up, in it’s second week, still on top with its superb reviews, brought its two week total to an impressive $137.3 million.

The Hangover had its own impressive results. It is the second second highest Friday gross ever for an R-rated comedy. That gives it the third-best opener for an R-Rated comedy behind Sex and the City.

But things have changed since this morning. The new results have show that The Hangover has taken the box office crown with grossing $45 million.

And rightfully so. Although, I’ve heard nothing but good things about Up, The Hangover, which I have seen, is thoroughly entertaining and hilarious from begining to end. Its a definite movie theater film to be watched with lots of friends.

Coming in third was the box office upset, Land of the Lost, grossing only $19.52 million out of the estimated $30 million. LOL has been declared as the “first bomb of summer.”
