Travis Barker Shares His Hospital Pictures

Posted on 12 October 2008 by Loretta

Travis Barker posted a statement along with some photos of his hospital stay on his MySpace page last night, October 11th.

Barker said,

Thank You.

I want to give my deepest thanks to everyone who has helped deal with the current situation.  First and foremost, Chris and Che were my friends.  I would give up anything to have them here with us today, healthy and happy.  To call them my employees does them such a disservice, as they were so much more than that.  Chris was my best friend before anything else, and I can never put into words how much he will be missed.  Che was an amazing person as well, and I was honored to have him in my life.

I am simply amazed and will be forever grateful for all the support everyone has shown to Chris an Che’s families.  It’s a testament to how many lives they touched in a positive way.

Like the doctors said from the beginning, its been a slow recovery process.  I am coming up on the 7th of my surgeries Monday.  Today I finally was able to move all my fingers on my right hand.  Every step seems huge at this point, and I’m doing EVERYTHING I can possibly do to get back to my kids.  Yes, I did start eating meat again, but if it helps me to be home holding my little humans sooner, then it’s all worth it.  The staff here are all bomb!  Dr. Grossman and his staff are the best.  The BOSS Barbara, and nurses Betty, Jay, Emily, Julio, Lolita, and Stephanie(with the best scrubs ever!) are all taking the best care of me.

My good friend Armen has been kind enough to save me from hospital food, and brings Jamba Juice, Wahoos, or whatever else I need to keep my calories and protein levels high.

Despite any rumors you might have heard via my EX-wife Shanna Moakler, who I have not seen since the week I checked in, I’ve been treated amazingly well, both here in L.A. and in Georgia.  The hospitals I’ve been treated at are THE BEST.

My friends and family have been amazing.  My pops has been with me ANY time I need him.  My sisters, James, Skinhead Rob, Daniel, Hoover, Armen and of course Ricardo and Nicole, have all shown amazing support.  JD and Mark Hoppus both took the time to come visit and offer their support as well.  Estevan Oriol even came in with a calendar.

Saying ‘thank you’ to all these guys just wouldn’t be enough…

I got to see AM the other day.  Seeing him after he was discharged was an inspiration.  I saw just how awesome the doctors’ work here is, and got to see how well he is doing.  I am so happy to see him doing well, and we are both so lucky and grateful that we are alive today.

I’m even using some of this time to help design the summer ‘09 Famous line [i.e. Barker's clothing line, Famous Stars and Straps].  Maxx, Jose, Bill have been awesome helping to keep the machine going.  These are some seriously dedicated people, and I’m lucky to call them friends.

Now I’m just counting the days until I can leave.  I can’t wait to get home to play drums with my son, and go for bike rides with my daughter.  I can’t wait to see the pictures from Landon’s ‘Jack and Sally Nightmare Before Christmas’ birthday party that we had for him today.  I am bummed that I couldn’t be there, but thank God I’ll be around to see many, many more.

Thank you everyone for your support!

It sounds like Barker has an amazing support system. This is the time when you depend on your friends and family to help with a speedy recovery.  However, it is sad that he has to worry about rumors that his ex-wife feels she has to spread.  It shows her complete lack of respect and sympathy for Travis and those close to him.

Travis Barker’s First Post- Plane Crash Interview

Posted on 08 October 2008 by tammy

Ex- Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker opened up to Us Weekly about the plane crash that left 4 people dead, that he and DJ Am thankfully escaped from on September 19.

On his fear of flying: “I hate planes. My biggest fear ever is to be involved in a plane crash, so when that happened … well, I’m just thankful to be alive! I’m just grateful to be here at all.”

On how he’s doing” “I am doing the best I can possibly be. I’m so anxious to get out of here. …I’ve just been in surgery after surgery. I have third degree burns basically from my feet up to my waist and both hands. One of my hands was second degree burns and one was third degree burns. I’m trying to have a quick recovery and play the drums again and be able to hold my kids again. [Barker has two children, Landon, 5, and Alabama, 2, with Moakler.] I’m going nuts not being able to see them and spend time with them!”

On eating meat again after over 25 years as a vegetarian “I need protein from food rather than just protein supplements. I changed my diet. I would do anything I possibly could if they said like, ‘There’s a possibility you might heal faster if you do eat meat or just change your eating habits.’ So I did. I don’t regret it at all, I feel so much better.”

On how much longer he’ll be in the hospital? “Oh gosh, I hope not much longer. I sit here and I read books and watch TV. I think if this surgery went well, I’ll be here for at most two weeks.”

Travis Barker will be Released from the Hospital Soon

Posted on 26 September 2008 by Loretta

Just one week after the terrible plane crash that killed four people and left DJ AM and Travis Barker critically injured, friends are reporting that Travis is doing well and is expected to leave the hospital in a couple of weeks.

Jermaine Dupri told People magazine,

He’s doing good, he’s gonna be alright.  He’s just got a lot of healing to do.  He’s supposed to send a message out to everybody in a couple of days to let everybody know that he’s feeling better.  He’s definitely feeling the love from everyone.

Jermaine also stated that Barker has brought in some things from home to make his hospital stay more comfortable.  “He’s just now getting everything in the hospital set up for him - iPods, computers, everything that he needs.  You got to make sure he is comfortable,” Dupri said.

It is still not clear as to what caused the plane to crash, but the black box indicates that the pilot knew of a blown tire.  We have learned that Travis Barker’s friends died from impact injuries and the pilot and co-pilot died from smoke inhalation and burns.

Travis Barker and DJ AM are Expected to Make a Full Recovery

Posted on 21 September 2008 by Loretta

Dr. Fred Mullins, the Medical Director at Joseph Still Burn Center in Georgia held a press conference this morning, September 21st, regarding Travis Barker and DJ AM’s condition.  Mullins said that both Barker and Goldstein are being treated for second and third degree burns, but he expects a full recovery.

Dr. Mullins said,

Since both Barker and Goldstein are in overall good health and didn’t suffer from any other crash-related complications, a full recovery is expected.

Barker was burned on his torso and lower body and DJ AM suffered burns to a portion of his head and his arms.  They both remain in the hospital’s intensive-care unit in critical but stable condition.

Dr. Mullins says that it may take a year to recover, however he expects that it will be sooner than that.  Mullins also read a statement from the families that said,

The families wish to thank fans from all over the world for their prayers and concern.  Deepest sympathy is expressed to the loved ones of those who perished in the crash.  As the two recuperate and mourn this loss, privacy for them their families and friends is requested at this time.

If you wish to express your thoughts and well wishes to Barker or Goldstein you can email them at doctors-hospital.net, just click on “visitors” then “email patient.”

Travis Barker & DJ AM’s Plane Crashed Last Night

Posted on 20 September 2008 by Loretta

Travis Barker (Blink-182) and DJ AM (Adam Goldstein) were critically injured in a plane crash in South Carolina last night. Barker, Goldstein, and four other passengers were on the plane that departed just before midnight on Friday, September 19th.

Air traffic control reported seeing sparks, then the plane went off the end of the runway and crashed through a fence, finally stopping on an embankment on the other side of a five-lane highway completely engulfed in flames.

Barker and Goldstein were likely both thrown from the plane in the fiery crash–other sites are claiming they jumped from the plane to safe themselves–but each of them have suffered critical burns. Travis Barker was burned from the waste down and DJ AM was burned on his face and other parts of his body. They are currently being treated in the burn unit of a Georgia hospital.

A witness to the crash, William Owens, said he was on the highway as a fireball came racing across the road just about 800 feet in front of his car. He didn’t even know what he was seeing until he was finally able to make out the tail of a jet. He jumped out of his car to help, had to leap over flames on the road and saw Barker and Goldstein running and jumping around, throwing clothes off, trying to get the flames out. They told him there were others on the plane; but, unfortunately, the plane was so engrossed in flames there was nothing Owen’s could do to help save the remaining 4 passengers.

Both the pilot ( Sarah Lemmon, 31) and co-pilot ( James Bland, 52) along with two other passengers (Chris Baker, 29 and Charles Still, 25) died in the crash. Chris is said to be Travis’ assistant, and Charles, security. All, including the pilots, are from our local Southern California. We are very saddened to hear this news. Our thought and prayers are with their families.
