Hey, French people! Watch out! Hollywood is coming for you!

Yep, it’s that time of year again ― when the starriest of stars invade France for a week to show off the year’s buzziest films from major auteurs, many of which hope to be factoring in during awards season. Many of the most talented filmmakers in the game have movies debuting at the Cannes Film Festival this year, from Steven Soderbergh to the Coen Brothers to Sofia Coppola and plenty more.

Ladies and gentlemen, start your booing!

The epitome of highbrow film festivals is gearing up to bow this May, giving us a glimpse at some of the year’s hottest movies from some of the most talented filmmakers working today. Apart from seeing a film or two that is bound to show up at Oscar time next year, the 2013 Cannes Film Festival will also screen a couple of this summer’s hottest releases, like Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby (opening the fest) and the Emma Watson-starring The Bling Ring.

Now, the French audiences at Cannes are notorious for booing movies they don’t approve of, so you can bet we’ll hear about it if any of these films aren’t up to snuff. For a look at what else is on the slate, look after the jump!

A set of new trailers featuring a couple of our favorite actors has been released, and they could hardly be more different ― except they’re both rocking long blond hair.

The more traditional of the two is the Chris Hemsworth racing drama Rush, in which he plays Brit Formula 1 driver James Hunt. Since he’s played by Chris Hemsworth and drives really fast, the character is obviously hunky, though there appears to be a story of some kind to go along with this. Then again, maybe not.

Less expectedly, Matt Damon shows up as Liberace’s “employee” (and boyfriend) in Behind The Candelabra. Prepare for lots of piano, lots of white pants, and lots and lots of sparkles.

Matt Damon isn’t the flashiest actor out there, but that’s why we love him. He’s played one of the best new action heroes of the past several decades in the Bourne Identity films, had a hand in a number of under-the-radar indies, as well as delivered strong performances in a number of high-caliber films like True Grit, The Departed, and The Talented Mr. Ripley.

And yet, he’s never seemed to let it go to his head, and even though he’s starred in a number of very commercial films, it never feels like he’s doing it for a paycheck. Despite his love of privacy, Matt opened up to Playboy about a number of topics, ranging from his marriage to the prominent roles he’s passed up to what it’s like to make out with Michael Douglas (in a movie).
